5 Chapter 1 Overview 1 Chapter 1 Overview ASCO Series 230 C2000 Intelligent Controller (hereinafter referred to as Controller) is used to control the Series 230 transfer switch. The Controller is designed to control two sources (Source I, Source II). When either source has over voltage, low voltage, failure, or abnormal frequency, the Controller will instruct the transfer switch to transfer to a better source or transfer to the center-off position in order to protect the load. Key Controller features include AC voltage & frequency signal acquisition, control signal input/output, user interface (LCD display, LED indicator lights and keys), and RS485 communication (supporting MODBUS protocol). The Controller appearance, functions and features, technical parameters, accessory configurations, and size of the Controller will be described in this chapter. Also available is the optional C2000 Intelligent Controller with Energy Storage (hereinafter referred to as Controller with Energy Storage, or Accessory 1H). This design is based on the Standard C2000 Controller but includes capacitors in order to store enough energy to move the transfer switch to center-off when BOTH Source I and Source II fail at the same time. 1.1 Appearance Please refer to Fig 1-1 for the appearance of the Controller. 6 2 Chapter 1 Overview 1.2 Controller Part Number Controller Part Number Voltage Rating 208V/220V/230V/240V 380V/400V/415V C2000 Controller C2000 Controller with Energy Storage Comments Please note, the Transfer Switch that is used with the Standard C2000 and the C2000 with Energy Storage are different due to connector board differences. So, one cannot interchange these controllers on the same transfer switch. 1.3 Functions and Features Detecting and displaying the voltages, frequencies and three-phase imbalance of two AC input sources, alarming and displaying when failures occur as overvoltage, under-voltage, over frequency and under frequency, etc. Multiple operating modes: Automatic (Source I Priority, No Source Priority), Remote Control, and Manual. Center-off position delay and Center-off position protection. Center-off position delay: When the transfer switch transfers the load from one source to another source, the transfer switch should stay in center-off position for a period of time. This time can be settable by user depending on the load characteristics. The default setting is 0 seconds, in order to consume the load inertia and protect the load from getting damaged by the inrush current when the load transfers from one source to another source. Center-off position protection: When there are abnormalities with both Source I and Source II, the transfer switch will transfer the load to the center-off position to protect the load from getting damaged. Built in abnormal transfer diagnosis capabilities in order to protect the transfer switch. Utilizes high frequency switch power in order to have a wide input voltage range, suitable for terrible power. Capable of operating with DC 24V. Many settable options, including over/under voltage, over/under frequency for both sources, and switching time delays. User DI / DO Ports for external monitor and control. RS485 with MODBUS communications protocol. Up to 100 event log recording capability. Log is saved in the event of a power loss. The optional Controller with Energy Storage (Accessory 1H) has the added feature to switch the transfer switch to center-off position during Source I and Source II failure at the same time. This optional feature can work in Source I Priority and No Source Priority operating modes. And this feature is available only after the controller has been powered by AC input for 10 minutes. 7 Chapter 1 Overview Controller with Energy Storage (Optional Accessory, 1H) ASCO Series 230 C2000 Controller with Energy Storage has the following control principle: Normally, the controller is powered by Source I, Line A and Line C (Line A and Neutral, when the source is single phase and neutral) or Source II, Line A and Line C. Once one of the sources has complete phase loss and the other source has either Phase A and / or Phase C loss, the controller loses power and the ATS will NOT be able to transfer because the motor has no power. To avoid potential damage to the generator and / or the load side, it is recommended to purchase the Controller with Energy Storage (Accessory 1H). With this optional feature, when Source I and Source II experience power failure, the Controller with Energy Storage is able to power the controller and the motor so that the transfer switch can complete one-last transfer to center-off. Each automatic transfer switch contains a rating label (Name plate) to define the loads (Ampere rating). Refer to the label on the transfer switch for specific values.! DANGER Do not exceed the values on the rating label. Exceeding the rating can cause personal injury or serious equipment damage. 12 8 Chapter 2 Installation and Wiring This chapter introduces the installation and wiring of the Controller.! WARNING 1. The controller should be installed with the operation panel on the outside of the panel or door. 2. When doing any maintenance, Controller MUST BE disconnected from all power sources. 3. Make sure the Controller is properly grounded with the Grounding Cable included with the Controller. 4. In order to avoid static buildup that can damage the controller electronics, the operators should wear an antistatic device.! Push the Controller into the opening of the cabinet front panel (without corner snap), as shown in Fig PUSH IT IN Figure 2-2 Schematic Diagram of Pushing the Controller into the Front Panel 2. Next, locate the four corner snaps included with the C2000 controller accessories. On the inside of the panel door, insert the four corner snaps one-by-one onto the Controller, making sure to push each snap up against the panel as snug tight as possible, preventing the Controller from sliding in and out of the opening, as shown in Fig Figure 2-3 Corner Snap Installation ASCO Series 230 Automatic Transfer Switch C2000 Intelligent Controller User Manual

14 10 Chapter 2 Installation and Wiring Controller Wiring Use the grounding cable LTSC2000SLW03 provided with the C2000 Controller to connect the grounding port located on the side of the Controller and the grounding port on the cabinet. WARNING Grounding is very important in order to protect the automatic transfer switch (switch and controller) from electrical disturbances, lightning, electromagnetic disturbances, etc. Locate the two connection cables 230S400SLW01-1 (Power Cable) and 230S400SLW01-2 (Signal Cable) found in the transfer switch accessories. First connect the Power Cable to the X1 Power Connectors located on both the Controller and the transfer switch. The Power Cable is labled to identify which end goes in which connector. Next, connect the Signal Cable to the X2 Driver Connectors located on both the Controller and the transfer switch. The Signal Cable is labled to identify which end goes in which connector. X5 DC Drive Connector is only available on the Controller with Energy Storage. The cable LTSC2ASL2 to the X5 Connectors located on both the Controller with Energy Storage and the transfer switch. If the user wants to use a longer cable, the user can make it according the cable pins definition in Table 2-1, Table 2-2 and Table 2-3. Half-duplex 485 interface, 2 line mode, Additional digital grounding and protect grounding ports are available if needed. There should be terminal resistence between 2 lines at the end of the star connection. If the Fire control signal is coming in, the transfer switch will move to center-off position and an alarm will sound. The alarm will continue to sound until the user physically presses any key on the key pad. Used during Remote operation mode. When signal input is closed, the switch will transfer to center-off position. Used during Remote operation mode. When signal input is closed, the switch will transfer to Source I. When it is on, it indicates normal operation; and when it is off, it indicates abnormal operation. When it is on, it indicates that the Controller is running in auto mode. When it blinks slowly it indicates that the Controller is running in manual mode. When it blinks rapidly it indicates that the Controller is running in remote mode. When in Source I Priority Mode, the alarm indicator will be on when the Controller detects such abnormalities as under-voltage, overvoltage, phase loss and power failure on Source I. It ignores the status of Source II. When in the No-Source Priority Mode or the Remote Mode, the alarm will be on when the Controller detects such abnormalities as under-voltage, overvoltage, phase loss and power failure on Source I and Source II. Otherwise, the alarm will flash during any critical failure, such as switch operation failure or fire alarm. When it is on, it indicates normal operation of Source I. When it is off, it indicates that Source I is not connected or loss of power. When it is on, it indicates normal operation of Source II. When it is off, it indicates that Source II is not connected or loss of power. When it is on, it indicates that Source I is connected. When it is off, it indicates that Source I is in the process of switching off or not connected. When it is on, it indicates that Source II is connected. When it is off, it indicates that Source II is in the process of switching off or not connected. When it is on, it indicates that the load is in OFF status. 22 18 Chapter 3 Operation The operation key descriptions are shown in Table 3-2. Down Page down key Used to switch between menu items and modify the setting values. 3.2 Display Screen The display screen is used to display power status, select menu options, and provide a user interface when communicating with the transfer switch Start Page After starting up the Controller, it will display the status of Source I and Source II and the real-time clock. The starting screen will loop automatically from page to page. Different pole configurations (2 poles, 3 poles, 4 poles) will have slightly different display contents. 1. This chapter also includes maintenance and troubleshooting information. 4.1 Start Up / Function Test Please refer to ASCO Series 230 Transfer Switch Manuals for start-up and functional testing procedures. 4.2 Maintenance To ensure consistent reliability of the transfer switch to make sure it is operating normally, regular maintenance testing should be conducted. It is recommended to do so once every three months. 4.3 Common Troubleshooting Before transfer switches any positions, please make sure that the interface wiring and controller setting are reliable and correct. After that, Power on and observe the indicator status, and carry out the following trouble items, as necessary. 34 30 Appendix 2 Battery Replacement Appendix 2 Battery Replacement The battery socket is under the Controller side, as shown in the following figure: Lithium Batterry Battery Housing Groove How to replace the battery: 1. Using the groove, pop out the battery housing from the controller enclosure. Be careful to NOT pull out battery housing too quickly to avoid pulling out loose battery wires. 2. Remove the battery and replace it with a new one. Recommended replacement battery: CR2032 (Round 3V Lithium Battery, 210mAh-φ20mm*3.2mm) 3. Insert the battery housing back into the Controller enclosure again. 4. Modify the date and time via setup menu.!
