3 Introduction Thank you very much for purchasing our product. This manual contains the procedures to be followed to operate the product, the checkpoints and precautions to be observed, and so on. Improper handling may result in malfunction. Before using this product, please read through these instructions to ensure that you will operate this product correctly. After reading through the manual, keep it in a safe place for future reference. Do not use this product where there is a danger of ignition or explosions. This product is for indoor use ONLY. Static electricity gives critical damage to the product. Do not short static electricity to signal line and ground line. Do not connect GND to voltage supply. Do not remove the cover. In the unlikely event that trouble or malfunction should occur, disconnect this product s power cable, and contact your dealer or an ARTEK sales representative. 5 1. General VXC4000 is a variable crosstalk coupler, which continuously adjusts the crosstalk magnitude against to the victim lines. A differential pair (one pair of two singleend lines) of victim lines as well as a pair of aggressor lines are all passive transmission lines and to be DC coupled. The crosstalk is to be effected mutually between victim lines and aggressor lines. Controlling the crosstalk amount is to be done via PC, specifying 100% as the maximum crosstalk and 0% as the minimum crosstalk. 7 2-2 Wiring Wiring Make sure coaxial connectors are not connected first Connect an earth code at the rear. Also connect the ground with the other equipment first. Connect a power code at the rear Turn the switch on the front ON Connect transmission cables at the front Fasten the connector with torque of 0.9Nm Connect USB cable at the rear Start remote control from your controller This unit does not require power for static usage. Software Installation 3-1 System Requirements Microsoft Windows 7 and Windows 8 Operating System USB2.0 Interface x1 3-2 Installation Install the software before you first connect VXC4000 via USB. If you got an zipped package from downloads, unzip (extract) the software package. Run "Setup" from the CD drive or the unzipped folder. Connect VXC4000 with PC via USB and turn it on. Windows will automatically find and installs the driver. The VXC4000 is installed as 2x COM ports. Control is done by sending (or reading) IEEE compatible ANSI text to (and from) the COM ports. When the driver is installed correctly, you will find it at Device Manager, under Ports(COM & LTP) as 2 of "Variable Crosstalk Coupler". Page 7 Operation Manual Rev. 1.0

9 If the driver does not install correctly, do the followings. - Start "Device Manger" from Control Panel of MS-Windows - Look for unknown device or "VXC4000" - Select and double click the device, then you will see the following diagram. - Update the driver specifying the CD drive or the unzipped folder. - Do the same procedure for all 2x COM ports. 10 Designating COM Port Number The COM Port number for VXC4000 is automatically assigned by the system. You can always designate your desired number at property setting of the driver. Start Device Manager and double click the "Variable Crosstalk Coupler" under Ports(COM & LTP) Go to "Port Setting" Tab and click "Advanced". Change the COM Port Number. GUI 4-1 Stat up Once installed, you can start GUI by clicking the icon, "VXC4000". 4-2 Control GUI is to set the amount of crosstalk by the percentage (%) value to the entire dynamic range of VXC Specify the % value in the number box or by the slide bar, by the step of 0.1%. 17 6. Warranties This product is warranted from date of purchase against defects of materials or in workmanship for a period of 1 year. This warranty is extended only to the original purchase. A purchase receipt or other proof of date of original purchase will be required in order to exercise your rights under this warranty. If the product fails to function properly, return the product, prepaid and this warranty only covers failures due to defects in materials or workshop which occur during normal use. It does not cover damage which occurs in shipment; applications and used for which this product was not intended; failures or problems which are caused by products or equipment not supplied by ARTEK; accidents, misuse, abuse, neglect, misapplication, fire, water, lightning, or other acts of nature; incorrect electrical line voltage, fluctuations or surges; damage caused by improper or faulty installation; improper connection with any peripheral; product alteration or modification; improper or unauthorized repair; cosmetic damage or exterior finish; product with altered serial numbers; failure to follow operating instructions, customer adjustments, maintenance and environment instructions that are covered and prescribed in the instruction book. 1.85mm(V) connector adapters and 2.92mm(K) connector adapters are excluded with this warranty. Cautions Terminate the other line even when you use one line of the differential signal. Avoid all possible shocks and vibrations.
