1 RiMatrix S: First order received Wollschläger Group buys off-the-peg data centre The Wollschläger Group, one of Germany's leading commercial enterprises in the precision tools business, is the first customer to have chosen the RiMatrix S from Rittal. At CeBIT, the provider of IT infrastructure solutions presented the RiMatrix S, the new concept in standardised data centre construction. Herborn, 21 May 2013 The Wollschläger Group is an internationally operating family business and has experienced strong growth in recent years. The company decided to move its new central logistics and headquarters to its Bochum site to be well equipped for future expansion, and therefore selected a new IT infrastructure. With RiMatrix S from Rittal, Wollschläger Group have a complete and fully functional data centre that includes server and network racks, climate control, power distribution and back-up, as well as monitoring and data centre infrastructure management (DCIM) software. To avoid long planning phases, we rely on the new concept for the standardised Rittal data centre construction, says Stefan Wörder, Head of IT and Project Management at Wollschläger. At CeBIT we were impressed by the functions of RiMatrix S, and found that it was exactly the right solution for Wollschläger. It completely fulfilled our requirements for both energy efficiency and high availability, as well as for our future expansion opportunities. Efficiency is of the essence The Wollschläger Group operates a systematic environmental management policy and is certified to DIN ISO 9001 and DIN EN ISO This meant that the new data centre needed a high level of energy efficiency. By concentrating on standardised data centre modules and perfectly coordinated components, RiMatrix S achieves a very low PUE (power usage effectiveness) value of 1.15.

2 The technology behind the Rittal RiMatrix S Data centres can configured, delivered, and commissioned in a very short time with RiMatrix S, the worldwide unique concept for standardised data centre construction from Rittal. Every unit in the process chain, from consulting to service, benefits from the prefabricated elements. RiMatrix S is the perfect solution for modern, standardised data centre infrastructures with uniform interfaces and continuous automation. To allow a higher packing density of the server and network components, Rittal has developed a new climate control system (zero-u-space cooling system, ZUCS) for the RiMatrix S, completely implemented within a raised floor. The air/water heat exchangers are located directly below the server frame. The related fans blow the cool air through a perforated base plate directly in front of the server level. Because the doors and side panels, and the server racks would only impede the flow of air, only frames are installed in the RiMatrix S. The cold and warm air zones are carefully kept apart by the partitioning between the frame, ceiling, and the 19 level. High availability is also achieved in terms of climate control by an n +1 redundancy. Focus on customer benefit Rittal also focuses on benefits for the customer when it comes to the uninterruptible power supply (UPS): Power supply and distribution are already preconfigured in RiMatrix S, so that either the customer s existing UPS can be used or a new UPS can be easily installed, as did Wollschläger Group. The power distribution in the RiMatrix S is designed for the redundant A and B supply paths, where the B path is backed up by a UPS system. The UPS is a rack-mounted modular system and follows the principle of n +1 redundancy. When the Rittal PDU Managed power distribution unit is installed, it is even possible to measure the power consumption right down to the individual socket. The Rittal CMC III (Computer Multi Control) monitoring system takes over the entire monitoring procedure: Consisting of a processing unit and up to 32 interacting sensors, it records every physical parameter such as temperature,

3 humidity, or smoke. All these measured values are displayed via the RiZone software, which the administrator can also use to intervene. A fire extinguishing system for the server module can also be provided as an option. Larger units through combination The smallest RiMatrix S variant, the Single 6, consists of six racks to accommodate servers and an additional frame for network technology. The Wollschläger Group has chosen the larger version: Single 9. This has eight server racks plus one rack for the server and network technology. One major aspect is the compatibility of the server modules with larger units: Both the mirrored arrangement, which leads to a joint cold or hot zone, as well as arranging servers in bays to form long rows, can be easily and quickly implemented.
