KEY NATIONAL CONSIDERATIONS NEED TO PROVIDE LONGER LIFE TO EXISITING NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE DO NOT LET IT GET DECLARED AS OBSOLETE NEW INFRASTRUCTURE MUST BE WITH LATEST TECHNOLOGY COULD BE ALREADY DEVELOPED OR TO BE DEVELOPED TO SUIT OUR NEEDS BETTER NO PROBLEM IN ADOPTING MOST RECENT TECHNOLOGY, PROVIDED IT GETS QUALIFIED AS SUSTAINABLE NO CONSIDERATION TO PROTECT 3G/3G+ INVESTEMENTS LTE/LTE-A CAN BE ADOPTED NOW PROMOTING DOMESTIC PRODUCT DESIGN & MANUFACTURING CAPABILITY ADOPTING MOST ADVANCED NETWORK SECURITY SOLUTIONS ENHANCE INDIGENOUS CAPABILITY FOR STRATEGIC SECTOR TECHNOLOGY & PRODUCTS 12 th March 2012 GISFI-ARIB/TTC Workshop 11
READINESS IN INDIA JOINT PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT COLLABORATION EXTREMLY LARGE KNOWLEDGE BASE OF SOFTWARE AND PRODUCT DESIGN SERVICES INNOVATIVE BUSINESS IDEAS SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS INITIATIVE OUTSIDE INDIA HUGE MARKET POTENTIAL OUTSIDE INDIA, ONCE ESTABLISHED IN INDIA LARGE POOL OF RESEARCH COMMUNITY AND FOCUS ON R&D, INNOVATIONS POLICIES ARE IN PLACE AS NATIONAL TELECOM POLICY-2011 PROMOTION TO DOMESTIC MANUFACTURING, R&D, SOLUTIONS INNOVATIONS ARE KEY CONSIDERATIONS STANDARDIZATION (TSDO) IS PART OF NTP-2011 STANDARDIZATION IS EXPECTED TO ENABLE COLLABORATION, PROMOTION & PROTECTION OF INNOVATIONS MEETING INDIA SPECIFIC NEEDS WITH GLOBAL FOCUS 12 th March 2012 GISFI-ARIB/TTC Workshop 12
GISFI S OBJECTIVES To enable India to be dynamic knowledge based economy able to compete globally To create solutions for societal trust & security by having nationally standardised ICT environment To ensure that national ICT policy implementation is aligned to the global state-of-the-art, in particular with major trading partners (USA, Europe, China, Japan,... ) GISFI is already implementing both Indian and global standardisation policies: By basing its work on the Indian Governmental policy By cooperating with international standardization organizations 9 February, 2012 GISFI: National TSDO 13
GISFI ACCOMPLISHMENTS Areas for Standardization have been identified. There is already a defined program and the management team for each area of standardization. Already collaborates with other global SDOs to ensure that the Indian standards are global in nature as well. GISFI Technical Working Groups have right conviction on What and Why of the chosen Terms of Reference in respective Working Groups. Working Methods have been adopted and being further refined. Relationship with other external organizations have been established. 9 February, 2012 GISFI: National TSDO 14
GIFSI Standardization Approaches GIFSI near term Approach: Innovations as incremental standards for existing installed networks Focus to transform Indian Companies Innovations into Global standards Enable global market for Indian products. Product Development orientation Chance to get success is high. Aligned with ITU objectives. Impact will be within 2-5 years. Leading to; Future Generations in fixed and mobile (5G/4G+) Focus to get some share in essential patents. Cost for developing such products will be relatively less. Research orientation Impact will be after years. 9 February, 2012 GISFI: National TSDO 15
GISFI s Chosen Incremental Standardization Model India heading to expand heavily into rural area with state of art infrastructure and broadband services. New Global Standards Existing Standards Additional Needs New URBAN Requirements Rural Challenges Low ARPU No Grid Power Wide spread extent Extreme Environment Varied Services Only infra to deliver basic services Unique System Needs Cost effective Energy Efficient Suitable Deployment Architecture Suitable engineering Best mix of all Technologies Critical and high available Current Products and standards do not meet the needs! Need New Products & Standards!! 9 February, 2012 GISFI: National TSDO 16
GISFI ARIB/TTC COLABORATION WILL PROVIDE SPEED TO GISFI WORK WILL ACHIEVE MORE GLOBAL RELEVANCE INDIA-JAPAN COMBINE WILL EMERGE AS SIGNIFICANT ALTERNATE FOR GLOBAL BUSINESS 12 th March 2012 GISFI-ARIB/TTC Workshop 17
