10 WTDC-14 Objective 5 Objective 5 Enhance environmental protection, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and disaster management efforts through telecommunications/icts Outcomes Improved availability of information and solutions for Member States, regarding climate change mitigation and adaptation Enhanced capacity of Member States in relation to climate change mitigation and adaptation policy and regulatory frameworks Development of e-waste policy Developed standards-based monitoring and early-warning systems linked to national and regional networks. Collaboration to facilitate emergency disaster response Established partnerships among relevant organizations dealing with the use of telecommunication/ict systems for the purpose of disaster preparedness, prediction, detection and mitigation Increased awareness of regional and international cooperation for easy access to, and sharing of, information related to the use of telecommunications/icts for emergency situations Questions related to ICT applications and cybersecurity Study Group 2 ICT applications, cybersecurity, emergency telecommunications and climate-change adaptation 1/2: Creating the smart society: Social and economic development through ICT applications 2/2: Information and telecommunications/icts for e-health 3/2: Securing information and communication networks: Best practices for developing a culture of cybersecurity 4/2: Assistance to developing countries for implementing conformance and interoperability programmes Questions related to climate change, environment, and emergency telecommunications 5/2: Utilization of telecommunications/icts for disaster preparedness, mitigation and response 6/2: ICT and climate change 7/2: Strategies and policies concerning human exposure to electromagnetic fields 8/2: Strategies and policies for the proper disposal or reuse of telecommunication/ict waste material 9/2: Identification of study topics in the ITU-T and ITU-R study groups which are of particular interest to developing countries
11 Green ICT Standards Adoption Participation in the ICT standard process gives to contributors the chance to provide inputs and better understand of the technologies and applications that will become the next market reality. Good and liable standards help to improve the establishment of regional and national set of technical requirements and ultimately contributes to access safe and interoperable ICT equipment. Standardization capabilities contributes to reduce the digital divide between the developed and developing worlds. Increasing the knowledge and capacity of developing countries for the effective application/implementation of standards (Recommendations) developed in ITU-T and ITU-R is fundamental for bridging the standardization gap. The activities from ITU Regional Offices and Areas Offices : Tailored capacity building events and assistance to developing countries will increase inputs from developing countries into ICT standards.
