Guest operating system Oracle Linux is installed as a guest operating system. Installed products The following products, which are components of the management server, are installed. The installation directory is /opt/hicommand. The database storage location is /var/opt/hicommand. Device Manager server Tiered Storage Manager server Replication Manager server Tuning Manager server Compute Systems Manager server Automation Director server Host Data Collector Configuration Manager REST API server In addition, the following programs must be installed: Device Manager agent Use the Device Manager agent when configuring a pair management server on a virtual machine. The installation directory is /opt/hdvm. The property settings required for the Device Manager agent to operate as a pair management server are complete. Command Control Interface A prerequisite program for the Device Manager agent and the Configuration Manager REST API. The installation directory is /opt/ HiCommand/ConfManager/HORCM. Tuning Manager Agent for RAID and Tuning Manager Agent for NAS A program that collects and manages information used for monitoring the performance of storage systems and NAS systems. The installation directory is /opt/jp1pc. Default settings for a virtual machine and the guest operating system A virtual machine and the guest operating system created by the Hitachi Command Suite virtual appliance have settings that are set by default that are required to use Hitachi Command Suite products. When the virtual appliance is deployed, a virtual machine with the following default settings is created. Confirm whether the virtualization server has enough resources to create the virtual machine. Installing Hitachi Command Suite products by using a virtual appliance 9
Table 1 Resource settings for the virtual machine Item Settings CPU Memory 4 cores (the number of virtual sockets: 1, the number of cores per virtual socket: 4) 16 GB If Tuning Manager is not used, at least 10 GB of memory is required. If Tuning Manager is not used and you want to reduce the memory capacity from the default setting, after deployment use vsphere Client to change the configuration. Disk size 350 GB The default setting is 350 GB. However, the actually required disk capacity varies depending on the products used. If Tuning Manager in not used, at least 200 GB of disk capacity is required. To deploy by using thick provisioning, make sure that there is at least 350 GB of free capacity for the data store before deployment. To deploy by using thin provisioning, make sure that there is at least 200 GB of free capacity for the data store. The default setting assumes that Tuning Manager is used and five storage systems that have 3000 volumes each are monitored by Tuning Manager Agent for RAID. For a larger scale system, change the settings for memory, the disk size, or virtual memory; increase the number of virtual appliances; or prepare a host for Tuning Manager Agent for RAID separately from the virtual appliance. For details on how to estimate the required virtual memory, see the Hitachi Command Suite System Requirements. The table below lists the items that are set by default for the guest operating system. To change the settings for Hitachi Command Suite products after the deployment, change the operating system settings as needed. Procedure 1. From a VMware vsphere client, log in to the VMware ESXi server. 2. Deploy the Hitachi Command Suite OVA (HCSVM_version.ova) from the Hitachi Command Suite Virtual Appliance installation media. From the VMware vsphere client, select File > Deploy OVF Template, and then follow the prompts. 3. To avoid IP address conflicts when the virtual machine starts, change the settings so that, when it starts, it does not connect to the network. This operation is not required if you are sure that the IP addresses will not conflict. When deployment is complete, the following network settings will be set by default for the virtual machine: IP address: Network mask: Default gateway: a. Right-click the created virtual machine, and then select Edit Settings. b. In the Hardware tab, select Network adapter 1, and then clear the Connect at power on check box. 4. Start the virtual machine. 5. If you changed the settings in step 3 so that the virtual machine is not connected to the network at power on, select the Connect at power on check box by performing the same procedure. Next steps From the guest operating system, run the setup tool (hvmasetup) to specify the network and time settings for the guest operating system. 12 Installing Hitachi Command Suite products by using a virtual appliance
Running the setup tool (hvmasetup) After the deployment of the virtual appliance is complete, run the setup tool (hvmasetup) to specify the network and time settings for the guest operating system. You can use the setup tool to specify the following settings: Network settings Host name IP address Default gateway Network mask DNS server (up to two servers) Time settings Time zone NTP server Note: You can run the setup tool only once. To change the settings after running the setup tool, use the operating system commands. The setup tool specifies an IPv4 address. If you use an IPv6 environment, set the IP address by using operating system commands after running the setup tool. Specify the time zone in the area/location format. If you do not know the specifiable values, before running the setup tool, use the following command to check the time zone values that can be set: timedatectl list-timezones Procedure 1. From the VMware vsphere client, log in to the guest operating system. When you log in for the first time, use the following user ID and password: User ID: root Password: manager When you log in for the first time, you must change the root password. 2. Run the setup tool: hvmasetup. 3. Specify the values as indicated in the displayed messages. After the specification of all items is complete, a list of the settings is displayed. Installing Hitachi Command Suite products by using a virtual appliance 13
4. Check the settings, enter y, and then apply the settings. After the settings are applied, the guest operating system restarts automatically. 5. If you changed the settings so that the virtual machine is not connected to the network when deployed, perform the following steps to enable the network adapter: a. Log in to the guest operating system, and then stop the virtual machine by using the shutdown command. b. From the VMware vsphere client, click Power On the virtual machine. Next steps Each product is now in the same state as that of a new installation performed by using the installation media. See the manual for each product to complete the post-installation tasks. Configuring a pair management server The virtual appliance includes the software to be used as a component of a Hitachi Command Suite management server, the Device Manager agent to be used as a component of a pair management server, and Command Control Interface. Usually, you need to configure the following settings to configure a pair management server: Setting the Device Manager agent Setting the command device of each storage system to be recognized by the virtualization server and the guest operating system. However, you do not need to configure settings of the Device Manager agent, because they are complete at the time when the virtual appliance is deployed. Settings to be performed are as follows: Registration of the Device Manager server to which information is to be reported Changing of the property setting to implement a batch (centralized) management configuration (the server.agent.rm.centralizepairconfiguration property in the server.properties file) Changing of the property setting required to install the Device Manager agent on a virtual machine (the server.agent.rm.ignorepairstatus property in the server.properties file) Setting of the Command Control Interface installation directory (the server.agent.rm.location property in the server.properties file) 14 Installing Hitachi Command Suite products by using a virtual appliance
Complete the following steps to assign the command device of each storage system to the virtualization server and to the guest operating system, so that they are recognized. Tip: The operating procedure is for an example configuration in which the virtualization server is connected to the storage systems via Fibre Channel. If VMware Fault Tolerance is enabled on the virtual machine, Fibre Channel cannot be used. In such a situation, check the conditions for using VMware Fault Tolerance, and either connect the storage system via iscsi and then assign a command device, or configure a copy pair by using a virtual command device. Before you begin A storage system to be managed must be registered in Device Manager. A command device must be created in the storage system. Procedure 1. From a VMware vsphere client, log in to the virtualization server. 2. Create a virtual WWN on the guest operating system. 3. Log in to the Device Manager GUI. 4. Register the virtualization server as a host to be managed by Device Manager. 5. Allocate a command device of each storage system to the virtualization server and to the guest operating system. You must specify settings to ensure that the command device will be accessed by the same port by both the physical WWN of the HBA installed on the virtualization server and the virtual WWN created on the guest operating system. 6. Specify settings for zoning on the Fibre Channel switch if necessary. 7. From a VMware vsphere client, set the command device to be recognized by the virtualization server. 8. Allocate the command device recognized by the virtualization server to the guest operating system by using raw device mapping. 9. Restart the guest operating system so that the command device is recognized. Notes on installing the operating system and Hitachi Command Suite products on the virtual machine after deployment The following table outlines the installation tasks for an operating system patch or for Hitachi Command Suite products in an environment in which the virtual appliance is deployed. Installing Hitachi Command Suite products by using a virtual appliance 15
Table 3 Installation tasks to be performed on the operating system and on Hitachi Command Suite products after deployment Task Implementation method Apply operating system patches Update the operating system Apply as needed. Uninstall the installed Hitachi Command Suite products, and then install them again after upgrading the operating system. To install Hitachi Command Suite products again, use the installation media. When Hitachi Command Suite products are uninstalled, the database and user information are deleted. For details on how to migrate databases, see the Hitachi Command Suite Administrator Guide. Upgrade Hitachi Command Suite products The virtual appliance can be used only for a new installation. For an upgrade installation or overwrite installation, use the installation media. During an upgrade installation, you might need to change the OS settings to expand the disk capacity or to change the kernel parameters. You can make necessary changes by using the system requirements configuration tool (hvmachgreq). Install additional Hitachi Command Suite products To install other Hitachi Command Suite products that are not installed on a virtual machine to which the virtual appliance is deployed, install the target products by using the installation media. Confirm the system requirements of the target products, and install prerequisite packages and reconfigure kernel parameters as necessary. For details on the system requirements for the target products, see Hitachi Command Suite System Requirements. Running the system requirements configuration tool (hvmachgreq) In an environment in which a virtual appliance has been deployed, if you want to perform an upgrade installation of a Hitachi Command Suite product or to install additional Hitachi Command Suite products, you might need to change the OS settings to meet the system requirements. You can make necessary changes by using the system requirements configuration tool (hvmachgreq). You can use the system requirements configuration tool to check whether the following items meet the system requirements, and to change the settings: Disk capacity Virtual memory capacity Prerequisite libraries Kernel parameters and shell limits Firewall exception registration The system requirements configuration tool is supported for products that are installed by virtual appliances.
