2 DANUBIUS-RI a pan-european Distributed Research Infrastructure Is a single legal entity Has a unitary management Serves one Scientific Programme, which promotes excellent interdisciplinary research in River-Sea Systems Uses the same standards (DANUBIUS Commons) Has a portal for data ensured by the Data Centre that connects all resources from all partners and opens them to the users Respects the principle of Open Access (based on terms to be further defined) Has a common policy for procurement and staffing Strengthens the contacts with business and industry through the Technology Transfer Office

4 Delivering a Step Change DANUBIUS-RI: will gather scientists from different disciplines instead of focussing on a scientific discipline will address cross-disciplinary topics and issues related to the sustainability of the river-sea system, as a single, connected and highly dynamic system of high social and economic importance. will take interdisciplinarity and the socio-economic relevance and impact as important criteria for evaluating applications for access. DANUBIUS-RI will be a platform for collecting, analysing, modelling and retrieving river-sea system data useful to all scientific disciplines. From data to information to knowledge to wisdom DANUBIUS-RI: will create new knowledge through consistent state-of-the-art observation, analysis and modelling, across the science, social and economic disciplines will enable stakeholder access to data, knowledge and concepts for more informed decisionmaking.

Geosci., 2008)

14 Data Centre Data Centre provides the RI data availability and processing Data Centre located in Bucharest in the national Network Operations Centre of Romanian research and education network RoEduNet (where GEANT PoP is installed + available staff & high security) - connection with major European e- Infrastructures Connectivity Hub - Data Centre assured by extension of dark fibre network Hub computing power and storage ~ 15% of the Data Centre - enough to gather the data from different sources and to prepare for uploading to Data Centre Storage of non digital data at Hub, Nodes and Supersites Hosting Laboratories Metadatabase accessed via the Data Centre portal The Data Centre portal - interface with the Global Earth Observation initiative GEOSS via the GEOSS Common Infrastructure (GCI).
