3 What is Hyperconvergence? Hyperconverged infrastructure has a software-centric architecture that tightly integrates compute, storage, networking and virtualization resources and other technologies. The hyper part indicates that all IT infrastructure resides below the hypervisor. Unlike converged systems, the technologies in a hyperconverged infrastructure are so integrated that they cannot be broken down into separate componets and used independently. Instead, the integrated technologies are managed as a single system through a common toolset. Capacity can be increased by installing another appliance into the cluster or cloud. Hyperconverged infrastructure did not even exist as a concept three or four years ago. Today, it is one of the fastest-growing methods for deploying IT in the data center.
