2 Welcome The launch of the Cyber Security Centre at De Montfort University will mark the opening of an exciting new chapter in the teaching and research of cyber protection. This will be the first in a series of annual conferences at De Montfort University and will bring together an international community from the public and private sectors, academia, law enforcement, defence and third sector providing a unique opportunity for you to strategically market your solutions and proactively position your company in the market place. The Vice Chancellor of De Montfort University, Professor Dominic Shellard, will give the opening address which will then be followed by a series of keynote speeches from high-profile senior figures from government and industry in the UK, Sweden and the USA. This launch event and subsequent conferences will break the pattern of public rehearsals of the scale and depth of the complexities and challenges of the Information Age that is all too often the hallmark of cyber themed events. Everyone contributing to the event will be challenged to move beyond defining a problem and instead offer suggestions for solutions. As a community of security experts we need to unlock the vast and unrivalled potential of the interconnected computer systems at the heart of the cyber domain. The Cyber Security Centre at De Montfort University is a significant contribution to an already vibrant and growing academic sector in the United Kingdom. The Centre builds on and extends the UK's existing capability by adding both depth and breadth to the multi-disciplinary approach and to the collaboration between the public sector, academia and industry. The Centre continues to enhance the advancing reputation of the UK as a world leader in the field of cyber protection. The Centre is undertaking research, education and training that is making a direct and sustained contribution to the growth and competitiveness of UK business and to the employability of UK citizens. At the launch event, a number of initiatives will be announced including: Innovative new training courses to help close the cyber skills gap. A permanent exhibition of crypto machines together with education events, ongoing research and a fund to grow the collection. The development of the cyber debates a series of formal debates between policy makers and other high-level key players internationally to help progress the debates around the global and local approaches to be taken on a number of key issues. The launch of a new international journal devoted to developing a multi-disciplinary approach to cyber protection and security
