4 An Introduction to DIT the leadership Dr Liam Fox MP Secretary of State Greg Hands MP Minister of State for Trade Policy Rona Fairhead Minister for Trade and Export Promotion Graham Stuart MP Minister for Investment The Rt Hon Dr Liam Fox MP is in overall charge of all policies and sectors, both directly and through his Ministers of State. He personally leads on the defence and security sector and is involved in the most significant global deals across all sectors. Greg Hands MP has responsibility for the Trade Policy Group, which leads for the department on developing, coordinating and delivering a new trade policy. He will lead the forthcoming Trade Bill through Parliament. Baroness Fairhead leads on trade and export promotion, with a particular focus on UK export promotion, which is of critical importance to the UK's future to ensure Britain is firmly at the forefront of global trade. Graham Stuart MP leads on investment promotion across all sectors. This includes outward direct investment, foreign direct investment, delivery of trade and investment promotion through overseas partners, and policy direction on topics such as mergers and acquisitions. 4

International Trade & Investment Access, support and advice to UK business in the UK and abroad. Trade Policy Developing the UK s trading framework and capability to negotiate international trading arrangements Export Control Organisation Issues licences for controlling the export of strategic goods. UK Export Finance Ensure no viable UK export fails for lack of finance or insurance, at no net cost to the taxpayer. GREAT campaign Building appetite for British goods and services, encouraging people to visit, study, invest in and do business. 5

8 The UK s expertise in decommissioning The UK was a pioneer in civil nuclear, and one of the first countries to begin decommissioning its plants. Our reputation for excellence spans the whole spectrum of the decommissioning process, from the services needed to plan and finance projects, to the technical and engineering know how needed to execute them. 10 The international decommissioning market an overview DIT estimates that the international market will be worth 250bn by commercial reactors have been shut down, but only a small number have been decommissioned and dismantled. Over 180 recently shut down research reactors also represent important opportunities. Demand for decommissioning will only increase, as major nuclear countries both plan and then begin to shut down their power plants. Decommissioning opportunities are not limited to reactors, but also to fuel cycle facilities and waste management sites. 10

DIT working group positioning UK as a partner on decommissioning in UK and third markets, preparing for future work in China. Middle East UAE planning to create a robust waste infrastructure from the beginning of nuclear programme, and keen to learn from UK experience. 14

15 Horizon scanning opportunities South Korea Plans to decommission KORI 1 already underway, but longterm strategy not yet in place. Koreans have ambitions to become a global player in decommissioning; UK can become a partner. Taiwan Planning to phase out nuclear by Belgium Planning to phase out nuclear by Ukraine No nuclear phase out, but significant number of shutdowns expected in 2020s and 2030s. Continued decommissioning at Chernobyl. 15
