3 Proposed Solution A High Level Overview Storage Dell estimates that the storage specified below should be deployed to support the customer s particular JD Edwards EnterpriseOne modules in production. Servers Current JD Edwards EnterpriseOne versions and their Web-based tools are designed around an architectural three-tier Web-based schema, which will effectively distribute information to and from the Web client-side structure. To that end, the recommended hardware to be used will be detailed in the following pages. Support Providing the server and storage hardware alone in order to implement this solution would obviously not be enough. Dell recommends that the customer arrange for separate consulting and installation services in order to install/upgrade the new assembly of servers. Servers arrive with Microsoft Windows Server 2003 loaded, which helps reduce the amount of time required to get the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne environment up and running. 2. 6 Architectural Considerations 1. In this solution, both Production and non-production users will run on the same hardware, just logging onto different versions of the applications. 2. Redundancy a. Websphere, Oracle Fusion Middleware, or existing network load balancers balance the load across Web servers, and distribute the load in the event one Web server is unavailable. b. Failover for data base servers is via Oracle 10g RAC and Microsoft Clustering. Note: failover straight through to the applications is not guaranteed. c. SAN Storage has dual storage processors with battery backup. d. All components have dual power supplies. e. All servers have dual Gigabit 1 Ethernet NICs, for high network availability. 3. Scalability a. Web servers may be added through Websphere, Oracle Fusion Middleware, or existing network load balancers. b. Logic servers may be added through existing network load balancers. c. Fibre channel switch ports may be added to accommodate additional servers or for test and development servers d. SAN Storage may be added for new applications, growth or test and development environments, up to 240 total drives. 4. Performance a. The database servers use Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition to take advantage of the extra memory, as compared to Standard Edition. b. The most important factor for achieving acceptable JD Edwards EnterpriseOne application performance is to maximize the number of spindles that the data is spread across. In a highavailability configuration, RAID 10 outperforms any other RAID type, while spreading the data across more spindles. c. While the amount of raw disk space is larger than the actual data, that architecture is necessary to achieve performance. 5. Capacity a. The final proportions of the disk LUN layout may have to be adjusted to accommodate the sizes of individual databases, but the total space should be sufficient to contain all the data while maintaining acceptable JD Edwards EnterpriseOne application performance. b. Expect the database size to more than double when upgrading from JD Edwards EnterpriseOne XE or 8.0 to 8.9 or higher. The growth was driven by Unicode and some rearranging of tables by application. 6. Backups of the SAN are performed across the fibre channel to the tape library.
