1 Toad Data Point Version 3.6 New in This Release Thursday, October 23, 2014 Contents Toad Data Point - Professional Edition Toad Data Point - Base and Professional Editions Idea Pond Toad Data Point - Professional Edition The Toad Data Point Professional edition includes the following new features and enhancements. Toad Intelligence Central Note: This feature is available in the Toad Data Point Professional edition only and requires access to a Toad Intelligence Central server. Publish Projects from the Project Manager to Toad Intelligence Central New This release includes the ability to publish a project from the Project Manager to Toad Intelligence Central. Use this feature to easily share a project, including all project files and resources, with other Toad users on an Intelligence Central server. Gather related Toad files, Automation scripts, reports, and other resources such as database connections into a project in your local Project Manager and then publish everything in one step. Projects are published as objects and can be shared and managed like other objects in Intelligence Central. Other Toad users can copy the project from Intelligence Central using the Get as Project command and open the project in their local Project Manager. Toad users can also copy individual files from within a published project on Intelligence Central and saved them locally. Automate Publishing Data to Intelligence Central When using the Execute Script or Clean Data activities in Automation to publish a dataset to Intelligence Central, you can now specify publishing options, like Sharing and Managing privileges. In the Activity Input tab for the activity, click Publishing Wizard to open the Publish to Intelligence Central dialog. Then specify publishing options. 1

2 Publishing is Optimized for Better Performance Several steps in the publish to Intelligence Central workflow have been optimized for better performance. The areas of optimization include the following: displaying the Publishing dialog, displaying objects in the Object Explorer, displaying the data in the Database Explorer (Viewer), and publishing data from a data grid. Publishing Generic Files Toad files with connection information (except Automation scripts) now retain this information when published as generic files, using File Send To Publish File. You can now publish multiple generic files simultaneously, using File Send To Publish File. Use CTRL+click to select multiple files. When the Publishing dialog opens, specify options for the group of files. Support for Intelligence Central Connections using Windows Authentication The Toad Intelligence Central server now supports creating a connection using your Windows Authentication credentials. This allows you to easily create new Intelligence Central accounts for individuals who are listed in Active Directory. Toad allows you to do this in the Publishing dialog when selecting users with which to share. If an individual is not listed as a current Intelligence Central user, you can easily add the individual from a list of Active Directory accounts. Object Names The rules for duplicate object names within one Intelligence Central instance have changed. The following rules now apply: Views and Snapshots: A view name must be unique within views in a data source. No two views can have the same name if published from the same data source. In addition, no two views can have the same name within a folder (regardless of data source). The same rules apply to snapshots. Datasets: A dataset name must be unique per user (within datasets). No two datasets can have the same name if published by the same user. In addition, no two datasets can have the same name within a folder (regardless of user). 2

3 Toad documents: The name must be unique within a folder per Toad document type. For example, no two ER Diagrams in the same folder can have the same name, but an ER Diagram and a Query Builder file in the same folder can have the same name. Automation scripts: A script name must be unique among scripts. No two scripts can have the same name within an Intelligence Central instance. Append Dataset You can now append data to an existing dataset when publishing data to Intelligence Central. Object Explorer When viewing Intelligence Central objects in the Object Explorer, you can now easily expand and collapse nodes. Right-click a folder and select Expand All/Current or Collapse All/Current. Data Management Data Profiling New in this release, Toad allows you to profile data. You can send data from a table, result set, or query to Data Profiling. Toad provides a statistical summary in both a grid and graph format to allow you to quickly view analysis results. 3

4 The Statistics tab allows you to view statistics for each column. Click selected hotspots in the graphs and tables to drill-down and view the selected values. The Patterns tab allows you to find pattern matches for string values. Toad also automatically identifies a domain for applicable columns and then identifies and list patterns based on that domain. 4

5 The Duplicates tab allows you to find duplicates. You can customize the profiling process. This allows you to reduce processing time by selecting only the type of analysis you want to perform. You can also easily modify the query to re-profile a revised data set. Easily change the sampling size, as well. Query Development Salesforce SOQL Toad Data Point now supports Salesforce SOQL. When composing a Salesforce query in the Editor, use SOQL instead of SQL. When you build a Salesforce query in the Query Builder, Toad generates a SOQL query in the Query tab, not a SQL query. Note: Salesforce queries created in Toad Data Point 3.5 or earlier are no longer supported. To run previously-created Salesforce queries in Toad, rewrite the queries using SOQL. 5

6 Toad Data Point - Base and Professional Editions The Base and the Professional editions of Toad Data Point contain the following new features and enhancements. New Look You will notice that this release of Toad Data Point has a fresh new look. Several elements in the user interface have changed, including: Main Toolbar: A sleek new design for the main toolbar includes large, easy-to-read icons to help you find and open your favorite Toad modules and tools. Open Connections List: The Open Connections list has moved to the Connection/Navigation Manager pane. Other Toolbars: For ease-of-use, individual module toolbars have moved to their respective windows. This keeps the Main Toolbar clean and display the functions you need only when you need them. For example, the Query Builder toolbar now displays in the Query Builder window instead of the Main Toolbar. Toad continues to provide maximum flexibility in the Toad workspace, of course. Move, float, and create new toolbars to fit your needs. New Skins: Three new skins have been added: ToadBlue2014, ToadGreen2014, and ToadTan

7 If you like the standard Toad skin, this look is still available. Go to Options Environment Interface and select the Default skin. If you like the standard toolbar, this is still available, also. Right-click the Main Toolbar and deselect Use Large Icons. Query Development New Commenting Feature in the Query Builder You can now easily comment out a Where clause, Having clause, or column from a Select statement in the Query Builder. Select the Where or Having field in a column, or select the column, then right-click and select an option from the menu. This feature allows you to easily manipulate a SQL query and still retain the original SQL text. In addition, comments are now retained when sending SQL from the Editor to the Query Builder. If you comment out sections of your SQL query or add notes as comments in the Editor, these are retained after sending to the Query Builder. Other Features Query Builder: If you modify the query in the Query tab, the Query Builder now prominently displays a helpful message to remind you to re-visualize your query in the Diagram tab. Base Edition and Cross-Connection Query: Starting with this release, the Base edition of Toad Data Point no longer supports Cross-Connection Queries (heterogeneous queries) in new purchases of the Base edition. However, if you purchased a 3.5 or earlier release of Toad Data Point Base edition, and you upgrade to this release, Cross-Connection Queries are available. (Support for Cross-Connection Queries is available in the Pro edition only.) Database Administration Object Explorer Filtering database objects has several new enhancements. When you enter a search string in the object filter field, the currently-specified Search Condition now displays in a blue banner below the field. 7

8 You can now specify a default Search Condition in Tools Options Explorer General. If you don't specify a default, the field defaults to the search type you specified the last time you created or modified a filter (includes previous sessions). The following new Search Conditions have been added: Contains (Exact), Starts With (Exact), and End With (Exact). Use these to include (in your text string) certain characters normally used in search logic, such as the underscore character (_). Connection/Navigation Manager You can now easily create a connection to a Greenplum database using ODBC connectivity by selecting Greenplum from the list of new connection types. The Connection/Navigation Manager now includes a search feature. Use incremental search to find connections quickly. Automation Select to File Activity: When exporting to an Excel file, you can now append the exported data to already existing data on a worksheet. 8

9 Zip/Unzip Activity: You can now unzip existing zip files using the Zip/Unzip activity (formerly the Zip activity). Installation DB2 Client A Toad DB2 client is no longer installed along with Toad Data Point. Toad installed a DB2 client as a convenience to the user. Because of enhancements to the DB2 client from IBM, this is no longer necessary. Toad now works with the DB2 client provided by IBM. The IBM DB2 client now includes the DB2.Net Data Provider. Also, IBM pricing has changed regarding the bundling of DB2 clients. This arrangement is now more convenient for the user as it eliminates the need to migrate the DB2 catalog to a Toad-specific DB2 catalog. This also streamlines and simplifies the Toad installation process. For full functionality when connecting to a DB2 database, ensure that you have a default DB2 client from IBM installed. If you have been using the Toad DB2 client installed with a previous version of Toad, to use your current DB2 connections, ensure that you have a default DB2 client from IBM installed. Refer to the IBM DB2 Website or consult your IT department for client download or installation instructions. Toad supports IBM DB2 Client versions through Toad supports the 32-bit or the 64-bit IBM DB2 Client. If you are upgrading Toad and have been using the Toad DB2 Client, after a new client is installed, you can easily transfer the client catalog from the Toad DB2 client to your default DB2 client. After the default DB2 client is installed, click the "Import a DB2 catalog..." button on the Connection/Navigation Manager toolbar. Then select the name of the DB2 client whose catalog you want to transfer to your default DB2 client. Note: If you install an older version default DB2 client in a Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012 environment, you may need to review this IBM DB2 Technote:

10 A Single Installer for All Editions Toad now has only one installer which can be used to install any edition of Toad (Base or Professional) or any version (Trial or Commercial). Your license key determines the edition and version of Toad that is activated upon installation. Toad no longer provides a separate installer that includes a 64-bit version of the DB2 client. This is no longer necessary as Toad no longer bundles a DB2 client with the application. Trial Keys The number of Trial keys that Toad will accept is now limited to 1. However, if you obtain and enter a Trial Limit Override key, it is accepted and overrides the existing Trial key. Idea Pond Got a great idea for a new Toad Data Point feature or enhancement?
