About the Performance Management Deployment Tool 1

About the Performance Management Deployment Tool 1 About the Performance Management deployment tool About the Performance Management deployment tool The Deployment Tool is a standalone Java application that enables you to move Performance Management assets between environments. The tool enables you to manage the life cycle of a Performance Management deployment by moving goals and metrics from one repository to another. The Deployment Tool is not a migration tool. It enables you to move the metrics and goals that comprise an existing Performance Management deployment from a development environment to a test or production environment on the same version. The Deployment Tool supports the export and import of Performance Management assets between two BusinessObjects Enterprise XI Release 3 environments. 6 SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide

About the Performance Management Deployment Tool About the Performance Management deployment tool 1 The import process extracts metadata about assets from a Performance Management XI 3.0 repository or from an existing description file. The metadata is extracted as XML and can be imported subsequently into a target repository or saved locally as an XML file. The Deployment Tool can export assets into an empty repository, or into a repository that already contains assets. Note: The Deployment Tool version 2 cannot read or deploy XML asset files generated by version 1 of the tool. The tool does not distinguish between XML asset files generated by different versions, so no error message will display if you try to use a version 1 asset file with version 2 of the tool, but attempts to import assets using an asset file from the previous version will be unsuccessful. The Deployment Tool does not provide a solution for versioning. Use a third-party tool to track the versioning of assets. SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide 7

About the Performance Management Deployment Tool 1 About the Performance Management deployment tool Related Topics What can I move using the tool? What's new in version 2 of the tool? This document describes functionality available in version 2 of the deployment tool, available for use on deployments of Dashboards and Analytics in XI 3.0. This version of the tool delivers the following additional functionality as compared to version 1 of the tool: ability to import additional assets: calendars, subject areas, dimension security, rules and alerts new repository/asset ID management mechanism (the PostFix ID) What can I move using the tool? You can move the following Dashboards and Analytics assets between BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.0 environments using the Deployment Tool: metric definitions (universe metrics and manual entry metrics) metric values (optional) goal definitions goal values (optional) goal type definitions dimensions based on universes manually defined user rights and security on sliced dimensions (read from the database) metric trees calendars subject areas rules and alerts rule folders 8 SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide

About the Performance Management Deployment Tool About the Performance Management deployment tool 1 Limitations of the tool Limitations of version 2 of the tool include: The tool cannot merge multiple repositories into one repository. The tool does not support the incremental migration of set data. The Deployment Tool version 2 cannot read or deploy XML asset files generated by version 1 of the tool. The tool cannot export metrics based on set data and the related set universes simultaneously. Sets are not visible as long as the subjects (from the universe) have not been published, so to export metrics based on sets, you must first export the set universe. To promote metrics created with a filter or condition from a source to a target environment, you must first promote the related universes using version 2 of the Deployment Tool, to ensure that the metrics subject_id and condition_id match. To promote a dimension, the data source (the fact table on which the dimension is defined) must be available, because the list of slices from each dimension is updated according to the data source when it is published. In addition, the tool does not move the following assets: Predictive Analysis metrics and corresponding analytics dimensions that are not based on a universe Process Analysis control charts the objects stored in the ci_transform table created during repository creation Count All, Count Null, Sample Variance, Sample Skew and Sample Kurtosis aggregations on DB2 UDB and DB2 OS 390 metric and goal publications and Goal Subscription analytics and Strategy Builder data goal and metric values of 10e20000 or higher goal tolerance range values SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide 9

About the Performance Management Deployment Tool 1 About the Performance Management deployment tool Dashboards Sets The Deployment Tool is available in English only. Related Topics Limitations of the tool Metadata used to create the asset description file The Deployment Tool uses metadata about each asset stored in the source repository to create asset descriptions during import. These asset descriptions are stored in XML files. Note: Asset description files generated by version 1 of the Deployment Tool are not compatible with version 2 of the tool. Metric definitions and values The import process extracts metadata about metrics (the metric definition) and provides the option of importing metric values stored in the repository. If you choose not to export metric values, metrics are created with the exported definition and attributes on the target system, and you must refresh the metrics in the target system after running the tool to populate metric data. If you choose to import metric values, the imported definitions are already populated with the appropriate data. Goal definitions and goal values The import process extracts metadata about goals and provides the option of importing goal values as well. By default, only the goal definitions and attributes are imported and exported. You may choose whether or not you want to import the associated values. If you choose not to export goal values, imported goal definitions are assigned an automatically defined time span (based on the initial goal span in the goal definition and the calendar on which the goal is based), and the initial goal 10 SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide

About the Performance Management Deployment Tool About the Performance Management deployment tool 1 value. These values must be confirmed (or modified) in the goal edit panel before they appear after the export. For goals based on universe queries, if you choose not to export goal values, the goals are created with the exported definition and attributes on the target system, and you must refresh the goals in the target system after running the tool to populate goal values. If you choose to import goal values, the imported definitions are already populated with the appropriate data. Note that goal tolerance definitions can be imported/exported with the goal definition, but the upper and lower tolerance values themselves are not exported. To populate the upper and lower tolerance values in the target repository, manually refresh goals after import. Refreshing imported goals to populate the tolerance values 1. After promotion, login to Performance Management on the target environment. 2. In Goals, select the goal from the list of available goals. The goal s upper and lower tolerance values are not displayed. 3. Click Refresh to display the tolerance values. For more information on refreshing goals, refer to the Performance Management online help. Goal types The import process extracts metadata about goal types defined in the source repository and exports them to the target repository. Dimension definitions and security The import process extracts metadata about probe dimensions. Fact tables upon which the exported dimensions are built must be accessible when exporting dimensions. Dimension definitions reference the related fact tables. The import process also extracts user rights and security defined on individual dimensions in the source environment and exports them to the target system along with the dimension definitions. SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide 11

About the Performance Management Deployment Tool 1 About the Performance Management deployment tool Metric trees The import process extracts metadata about metric trees but does not automatically move the referenced metrics. To import a metric tree definition and its related metrics, you must select both the metric tree and the metrics it references for import in the Deployment Tool. Calendars The import process extracts definitions of all types of calendars. Subject areas The subject area is an incremental ID created when a universe is pushed to the Performance Management repository (via Setup > System Setup > Repository). Subject areas are used within analytics to reference universes.the import process extracts the subject area metadata from universes that you select for export. To export universes using the Deployment Tool, they must be published as InfoObjects in a CMS defined in the repository set. Related Topics Defining the enterprise repository set Subject area limitations When the subject area cannot be maintained during import (if it is not identical in the source and target environments, or if you try to import a universe to a target repository that already contains a universe with the same subject area), the following analytics that depend on the subject area are not supported for import: analytics that use prompts on subject areas and that are not defined as refresh on open analytics that filter on the list of available subjects (IMT, Individual profiler, track selected metrics, most volatile metrics, set overview) 12 SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide

About the Performance Management Deployment Tool About the Performance Management deployment tool 1 analytics that store the subject ID in their xml definitions (Export list, Individual profiler, Visual data Count analytics as well as Pareto charts and Maps based on universes) Set Analytics (Membership, Migration and Multi-Set Same Time Events) because they filter on subject area. This is the case by default; you can manually edit the xml files corresponding to these analytics to remove this filter. Control Chart Analytics (because the Deployment Tool does not migrate the ci_run_value table) Rules and alerts The import process extracts definitions of rules and alerts defined on the source system. 15 Using the Performance Management Deployment Tool 2

Using the Performance Management Deployment Tool 2 Promotion workflow using the PMDT Promotion workflow using the PMDT Promoting assets with the Deployment Tool is only one step in the life cycle management or migration process. For an effective deployment, follow this workflow: 1. Use BusinessObjects XI 3.0 Performance Manageemnt tools to develop applications in a development environment. This includes creating metrics in Dashboard Manager, goals in Performance Management, and sets in Set Analysis. 2. Configure a target environment on BusinessObjects XI 3.0, either test or production depending on the steps in your lifecycle process. 3. If your applications include sets (and if any of the metrics you are exporting are based on sets), use Set Architect to deploy set metadata (using the unload process on the source environment and the load process on the target environment). 4. Use the BusinessObjects XI 3.0 Import Wizard to move universes and other InfoObjects (dashboards, analytics, users) to the target (test or production) environment. Note: If you upload universes to the target CMS manually and do not use the Import Wizard, CUIDs will be different in the target and source systems. In this situation, metrics that are based on these universes cannot be imported by the Deployment Tool, which relies on the CUID (stored in the ci_source.universe_cuid) to match the metrics in the source and target systems. 5. Use the Deployment Tool to move your assets from the source system to the target. 6. If you did not choose to import metric values along with their definitions, refresh the metrics in the target system to populate metric data. If you imported metric values, the imported definitions are already populated with the appropriate data. 7. Manually define schedules in the target destination (they are not imported by the Deployment Tool). 17 Using the Performance Management Deployment Tool Promotion workflow using the PMDT 2 Before using the Deployment Tool Before you run or use the Deployment Tool: Install Business Objects XI 3.0. The client application is delivered in a.zip file, and the server components required to run the tool are delivered as part of the Service Pack. XI 3.0 must be installed on all BusinessObjects Enterprise servers you plan to access using the Deployment Tool. Verify that you have JDK or later version, and that you have at least 64 MB for the minimum heap size, and at least 128 MB for the maximum heap size (or more if there is enough memory available on the system). Check that you have set the JAVA_HOME environment variable. Create a backup of the source repository before you begin. Related Topics Setting the JAVA_HOME variable The run_deploymenttool.bat file To run the Deployment Tool, unzip the DeploymentToolv2.zip and double-click to launch the run_deploymenttool.bat file. When you launch the run_deploymenttool.bat file, a command line window launches. The batch file tests whether you have set the JAVA_HOME environment variable: If you have, the value of the JAVA_HOME variable is displayed in the command line. If you have not, an error is displayed in the command line prompting you to declare this environment variable. You must set this variable before using the Deployment Tool. Once the batch file detects the JAVA_HOME variable, it sets the Java heap size for the system to ensure that the deployment tool has enough available memory to run. The default values set by the batch file are: Xms64M Xmx128M or 64MB for the minimum heap size and 128MB for the maximum heap size. SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide 17

Using the Performance Management Deployment Tool 2 Promotion workflow using the PMDT Related Topics Setting the JAVA_HOME variable Changing the default heap size If you receive the following error when you try to run the deployment tool: java.lang.outofmemoryerror or if you want to change these default heap size values, open and edit the run_deploymenttool.bat batch file as follows: 1. Replace the following: Xms64M Xmx128M with: XmsYYYM XmxZZZM where YYY is the minimum heap size and ZZZ is the maximum heap size. 2. Save and close the batch file. 3. Launch the run_deploymenttool.bat batch file again. Setting the JAVA_HOME variable 1. In the Windows Start menu, selectcontrol Panel > System. 2. In the Advanced tab of the System Properties, click Environment Variables. 3. Under System variables, click New. 4. In the Variable Name field, type JAVA_HOME. 5. In the Variable Value field, type the root of the Java Runtime Environment installation path (for example: C:\jdk1.4.2). 6. Click OK. 7. Launch the run_deploymenttool.bat batch file again. 18 SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide

Using the Performance Management Deployment Tool The Metric Deployment wizard 2 Supported platforms The Deployment Tool supports source and destination environments supported by BusinessObjects Enterprise XI Release 3. The Deployment Tool must be run on Windows, but it can be used to access assets in environments on supported Windows and UNIX platforms. Specific limitations apply to deployments on DB2. Related Topics Limitations of the tool The Metric Deployment wizard In each step of the Performance Management Deployment tool, you can navigate using the Previous and Next buttons at the bottom of the window. Related Topics Promotion workflow using the PMDT Step 1: Configure Step 2: Source/Target Step 3: Asset Types Step 4: Asset Objects Step 5: Deploy Step 1: Configure When you launch the Deployment Tool, it automatically loads the repository set configuration file if you have created one. If you have not, you must define the repository set. In this step, you define the source and target repositories to/from which you want to import/export asset definitions. SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide 19

Using the Performance Management Deployment Tool 2 The Metric Deployment wizard The Deployment Tool cannot merge repositories. When two repositories in the repository set contain different assets with duplicate IDs, an ID conflict occurs. To avoid ID conflicts between repositories, either add only empty repositories to the repository set, or manage potential ID conflicts by defining PostFix IDs to repositories in the repository set before you begin asset development on them. When you add a repository that you plan to use as a target repository to an existing set, make sure that any universes it already contains do not conflict with universes on other repositories in the repository set. Related Topics Selecting the PostFix Defining the enterprise repository set In this step, you define the source and target repositories to/from which you want to import/export asset definitions. The Deployment Tool cannot merge repositories. Related Topics Selecting the PostFix To add a repository to your enterprise repository set 1. Click Add. 2. In the Repository properties panel, enter the name of the source CMS in the CMS field. 3. Enter a valid administrator user name and password to connect to the CMS. 20 SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide

Using the Performance Management Deployment Tool The Metric Deployment wizard 2 4. From the Security list, select the appropriate authentication method to connect to the CMS and click OK. Your repository appears in the Enterprise Repository Set list, along with the user name used to connect to it. 5. To connect to the repository, click Connect. You must connect to each repository from which you want to import/export assets in the current session. Note: If a repository is already connected, the Connect option is not available. A green light next to the repository name indicates that its connection is enabled. Repository configuration xml files Repository configuration files enable you to import or export an existing repository configuration to another system already running the Deployment Tool. This enables you to avoid manually adding each repository to the repository set on the new system. The repository configuration file includes connection information to the referenced repositories (excluding the password to connect). To update the configuration of a repository from an xml file, click Import configuration from file. To export the configuration of a repository to a xml file, click Export configuration to file. Selecting the PostFix The PostFix marks the repository to enable the tool to manage conflict IDs between assets that originate on different systems. The PostFix identifies each unique repository. All assets created on that repository after the PostFix is assigned inherit the PostFix as part of their unique IDs. Assets are therefore identified as originating on a particular repository. The tool can therefore differentiate two assets with otherwise identical IDs during an import/export. The range of available PostFix values is 1 to 9. You can therefore only connect to and manage assets from nine unique repositories using the SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide 21

Using the Performance Management Deployment Tool 2 The Metric Deployment wizard Deployment Tool. In order for the PostFix feature to function optimally, you must define the repository PostFix before creating any assets in the repository, so that their IDs are created with the appropriate PostFix. To set the PostFix number for a repository 1. Select the repository to which you want to assign a PostFix. 2. Click Set PostFix. 3. In the Set Repository PostFix panel, select the ID you want to assign to the repository. Note: You are limited to the numbers 1 through 9. Do not assign the same number to more than one repository. If you create assets in a repository that does not have an assigned PostFix, you must export them to all other repositories in the repository set before you create new assets in those repositories. Once you set a repository postfix, it cannot be changed. Editing the repository set You can also perform the following actions on available repositories in the repository set: To remove a repository from the repository set, select the repository in the Enterprise Repository Set and click Remove. To edit the repository settings, select the repository in the Enterprise Repository Set and click Edit. Note: In the edit mode you cannot modify the CMS field. Step 2: Source/Target In this step you select the source from which you want to export assets and the target to which you want to import them. 22 SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide

Using the Performance Management Deployment Tool The Metric Deployment wizard 2 Select the source In the source section of the screen, select the location from which you want to export assets. You may choose one of the following sources: a repository that you defined as part of the repository set on the previous screen an existing asset description XML file generated in a previous export (click Browse to locate the asset file) Selecting the target In the target section of the screen, select the location to which you want to import assets. Do not select the same repository or file in the source and target sections. You may choose one of the following sources: a repository that you defined as part of the repository set on the previous screen a new asset description XML file (click Browse to select the location where the asset file will be saved) Optionally, select Overwrite existing items with the same ID. Note: If you select this option, you will not receive a warning in the event of conflict ID. Assets in the target system with duplicate IDs will be overwritten by the assets the Deployment Tool is importing. If you have not selected this option and the tool detects an ID conflict, an error is displayed, and you need to resolve the ID conflicts before you can deploy. Assets in the import file with the same ID as assets present in the target repository will be ignored during export, and therefore not created in the repository. Step 3: Asset Types In this step you select the asset types that you want to deploy. SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide 23

Using the Performance Management Deployment Tool 2 The Metric Deployment wizard Note: Moving goal and metric values is optional. Step 4: Asset Objects In this step you select the asset objects that you want to deploy. Only assets that you explicitly select are imported. The Deployment Tool does not automatically import assets referenced by other assets checked for import. When an asset selected for import references another asset that is neither selected for import nor present in the target repository, the asset with a dependency on the absent asset is not created in the target repository. Step 5: Deploy If the deployment is successful, click Finish to exit the Deployment Tool. If the Deployment Tool encounters any problems, a panel appears with a list of assets that cannot be deployed to the target repository. If inconsistencies in the repository are encountered during the process, the asset that causes the problem is not created and a warning message is displayed.you can either continue the deployment, or close the wizard and retry the deployment after you have fixed the errors. To save the information generated about the deployment, click Save Log as. A.log file is generated with the date of the deployment as its name. You can rename the file and select the location in which it will be saved. 24 SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide

About the Cursor Manager 3

About the Cursor Manager 3 The Cursor Manager The Cursor Manager The repository PostFix feature of the Deployment Tool manages IDs for assets that were created in an XI 3.0 environment. It does not manage ID conflicts that may arise between assets created in 6.x or XI and migrated to XI 3.0 since the PostFix feature only exists in XI 3.0. If you plan to migrate the 6.x or XI source environment to XI 3.0 in multiple steps, then move assets between multiple XI 3.0 environments, the PostFix feature can not handle conflict IDs between assets originating from the various 6.x/XI sources during the XI 3.0 imports/exports. The Cursor Manager is a separate tool, delivered with the Deployment Tool, which manages ID conflicts that may arise during incremental migrations from the 6.x or XI source, therefore enabling you to migrate the 6.x or XI production repository in multiple stages. Incrementing asset ID cursors using the Cursor Manager This tool enables you to change the cursor that defines the next ID for each asset in the source repository. Metric and goal IDs are automatically incremented by 1 in the repository each time a new asset is created. The next value is therefore n+1, where n is the ID of the most recently created asset by default. The next value for each asset type is stored in a cursor in the ci_param table under: Asset Location of next value metrics ci_probe.probe_id goals ci_target.target_id probe dimensions ci_probe_dim.probe_dim_id 26 SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide

About the Cursor Manager Incrementing asset ID cursors using the Cursor Manager 3 Asset Location of next value goal types ci_target_type.target_type_id metric trees ci_probe_tree.tree.id The Cursor Manager enables you to modify the value of the cursor (the definition of the next value) stored in the source repository so that you can continue to develop assets in both environments without causing an ID conflict during future exports. Double-click the run_cursormanager.bat to launch the Cursor ID reservation application. Select one of the following options: Increment all cursors by This option enables you to select a range for the next incrementation. The result of this option is a next value of current cursor + (the value you select in the Increment All cursors by field). For example, if the last metric has an ID of 75 and you select this option with a value of 500 in the Increment All cursors by field, the next metric will be assigned the value 576. Increment manually This option enables you to specify a cursor for each asset type. The window displays the next value that will currently be attributed to each asset type, as defined in the source repository for each asset type (see table above for location of the "next" value in the repository for each asset type). You may choose a new cursor for each of the asset types. Click Apply new values to make the relevant changes to the source repository. When you click Apply new values, your changes are immediately applied to the source repository. Note: When you use the Deployment Tool version 2 to move assets between XI 3.0 environments, cursors set on the source environment are applied transparently on the target environment during import/export. If cursor values on the target environment are inferior to those on the source environment, they are overwritten by the source cursors during export. SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide 27

About the Cursor Manager 3 Incrementing asset ID cursors using the Cursor Manager Example: Changing asset cursors in the Deployment Tool You are developing metrics and goals on a development and production environment simultaneously, and using the Deployment Tool to import assets from the development environment to the production environment progressively, as they are tested. You have created and tested four metrics on the development system: M1, M2, M3 and M4. You use the Deployment Tool to import them from development and to export them to production: You continue to create separate metrics on both environments simultaneously. As a result, you have metrics M1 through M4 that are identical on both environments, and new metrics M5 and M6 on the development environment, and metrics M5 through M8 on the target environment: You now create two new metrics on the development environment whose IDs are automatically incremented from the last metric ID (6). You want to export these two metrics, whose IDs are M7 and M8, to the production environment. You do not want to overwrite existing metrics in the production environment, and since the IDs M7 and M8 already exist in the production repository, the two metric definitions cannot be exported. The solution is to force a new increment value to apply to assets created in the source (development) environment by changing the cursors defined for metrics. In this example, during the first import/export (of metrics M1 through M4) you select the ID Reservation option in the Import step. In the Options screen, you can either increment all cursors automatically (for example, choosing 1000 will result in a next value of last new asset ID ), or manually select the next value. 28 SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide

About the Cursor Manager Incrementing asset ID cursors using the Cursor Manager 3 In this example, you choose the Increment All Cursors by option and select The result of the first import/export is the same (M1 through M4 are identical on both environments). When you continue to create metrics independently on the two environments, the result is now: When you create subsequent metrics to import from the development environment, they are attributed the IDs M1007 and M1008. There is no longer a conflict when you want to deploy these two metrics to the production environment. SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide 29

Using the PMDT in 6.x to XI Release 3 Migration workflows 4

Using the PMDT in 6.x to XI Release 3 Migration workflows 4 Using the deployment tool in Migration workflows Using the deployment tool in Migration workflows The Deployment Tool is not a migration tool. It only enables you to move (import and export) assets to and from Performance Management XI 3.0 repositories. The Deployment Tool can, however, be used as part as an overall migration strategy in which you migrate Application Foundation to a Performance Management XI 3.0 staging or development server using the Import Wizard, then the Deployment Tool to move assets developed in the staging environment to the production repository. Related Topics Scenario 1: migrating via a staging environment without changing the source production environment Scenario 2: incremental migration of the 6.x/XI source About the Import Wizard The Import Wizard migrates Application Foundation version 6.1.b, and 6.5 and Performance Management XI to BusinessObjects Enterprise XI Release 3. The Import Wizard migrates the repository, dashboards, analytics, universes and schedules and publishes them to the CMS (Central Management Server) as InfoObjects. The Import Wizard also updates the Application Foundation repository to the Performance Management XI 3.0 repository (the Performance Management XI repository must be upgraded in the repository management section of the System Setup after migration to XI 3.0). During migration, the Import Wizard makes changes to the Application Foundation repository (refer to the BusinessObjects 5.x/6.x to 32 SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide

Using the PMDT in 6.x to XI Release 3 Migration workflows About the Import Wizard 4 XI Release 3 Migration Guide for details). You can also use the Import Wizard to move XI 3.0 InfoObjects between development, test and production XI 3.0 environments. In this scenario, the Import Wizard moves the InfoObjects from the source CMS and publishes them as InfoObjects in the target CMS. The Import Wizard publishes the following Performance Management assets as InfoObjects: dashboards and images application menus and submenus corporate and personal analytics users universes security SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide 33

Using the PMDT in 6.x to XI Release 3 Migration workflows 4 Scenario 1: migrating via a staging environment without changing the source production environment Scenario 1: migrating via a staging environment without changing the source production environment This is the recommended scenario for migrating from an Application Foundation 6.x environment to BusinessObjects Enterprise and Performance Management XI 3.0 via a staging (test) environment. It involves the Deployment Tool to manage the life cycle of Performance Management assets in multiple environments after migration to XI 3.0. The only constraint on using the Deployment Tool in this scenario is that since it does not support the merge of multiple Performance Management repositories, the source repository (6.x or XI) can only be migrated to XI 3.0 once. While the post-migration lifecycle management can be performed in multiple cycles, the migration cannot be incremental and must only be performed once. This constraint applies to the Performance Management repository only. Performance Management assets that are published as InfoObjects in the CMS during migration can be migrated in multiple steps provided they have no dependencies on Performance Management assets stored in the Performance Management repository objects. Application Foundation objects that are published to the CMS by the Import Wizard include: dashboards analytics agnostic documents universes links between analytics and documents and dependencies on BusinessObjects universes Refer to the SAP BusinessObjects 5.x/6.x to XI Release 3 Migration Guide for a complete list. Application Foundation objects that are stored in the Performance Management repository after migration, and can therefore only be migrated once, include: metrics goals 34 SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide

Using the PMDT in 6.x to XI Release 3 Migration workflows Scenario 1: migrating via a staging environment without changing the source production environment 4 rules Refer to the SAP BusinessObjects 5.x/6.x to XI Release 3 Migration Guide for a complete list. The following diagram depicts the general workflow for migrating the Application Foundation repository then managing Performance Management assets on the XI 3.0 environment using the Deployment Tool. The numbered steps in the diagram are explained below: 1. Migrate the BusinessObjects repository and a copy of the Application Foundation repository from the source environment (version 6.x) to the XI 3.0 staging (test) environment. Note: It is important to backup the Application Foundation repository before migrating it because the Import Wizard makes changes to the repository during migration that cannot be undone. Refer to the SAP BusinessObjects 6.x to XI Release 3 Migration Guide for details 2. Continue developing dashboards, analytics and documents on the source (6.x) environment. Do not make any further changes or updates to the Application Foundation repository. It can only be migrated once. After you have migrated to XI 3.0, the only changes you can make on the SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide 35

Using the PMDT in 6.x to XI Release 3 Migration workflows 4 Scenario 1: migrating via a staging environment without changing the source production environment source system are to objects that the Import Wizard will publish to the XI 3.0 CMS as InfoObjects. Note that any changes you make to assets on the 6.x source environment and that you plan to migrate to XI 3.0 as InfoObjects must be compatible with the Performance Management XI 3.0 repository that you have already migrated. 3. Use the Import Wizard to migrate all objects that are not dependent on the Performance Management repository and that you have modified since the 6.x to XI 3.0 migration (in Step 1) to the XI 3.0 staging environment. Use the merge or update option as appropriate to your migration strategy. Refer to the SAP BusinessObjects 5.x/6.x to XI Release 3 Migration Guide for a description of these options. Note: Do not re-migrate the Application Foundation 6.x repository using the Import Wizard. The Application Foundation repository cannot be merged and can only be migrated once. Continue development and tests on the XI 3.0 environment (repeat steps 2 and 3). 4. When you are ready, use the Import Wizard to move InfoObjects from the staging environment and publish them to the XI 3.0 production environment. 5. Use the Deployment Tool to assign a repository PostFix ID of 1 to the XI 3.0 development environment. 6. Use the Deployment Tool to push assets from the development environment 1 to the next repository. Use the Deployment Tool to assign postfix IDs to up to 8 additional repositories. The repository PostFix ID feature supports the import and export of assets between up to nine separate Performance Management XI 3.0 repositories. Related Topics Promotion workflow using the PMDT About the Import Wizard 36 SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide

Using the PMDT in 6.x to XI Release 3 Migration workflows Scenario 2: incremental migration of the 6.x/XI source Scenario 2: incremental migration of the 6.x/XI source This is an optional scenario for migrating incrementally from an Application Foundation 6.x environment to BusinessObjects Enterprise and Performance Management XI 3.0 using the Cursor Manager. This scenario enables you to continue developing Application Foundation assets in the source (6.x or XI) environment while testing the migration process via a staging environment (XI 3.0). You are therefore able to develop assets simultaneously on both the 6.x/XI and XI 3.0 environments and then synchronize them. Scenario 2 requires using the Cursor Manager in addition to the Deployment Tool repository PostFix feature. The repository PostFix feature manages IDs during import/export between up to 9 XIR3 repositories for assets that were created in XIR3. This feature does not manage ID conflicts that may arise between assets created in 6.x or XI and migrated to XIR3 since the PostFix feature only exists in XIR3. The Cursor Manager manages ID conflicts that may arise during incremental migrations from the 6.x or XI source, therefore enabling you to migrate the 6.x or XI production repository in multiple stages. The following depicts an incremental migration workflow using the Deployment Tool to manage the life cycle of Performance Management assets and the Cursor Manager to manage asset ID conflicts that may arise post-migration. The numbered steps in the diagram are explained below: 4 SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide 37

Using the PMDT in 6.x to XI Release 3 Migration workflows 4 Scenario 2: incremental migration of the 6.x/XI source 1. Migrate the BusinessObjects repository and a copy of the Application Foundation repository from the source environment (version 6.x) to the XI 3.0 staging environment 1. Note: It is important to copy the Application Foundation repository before migrating it because the Import Wizard makes changes to the repository during migration that cannot be undone. Once you migrate the Application 38 SAP BusinessObjects Performance Management Deployment Tool Guide

Using the PMDT in 6.x to XI Release 3 Migration workflows Scenario 2: incremental migration of the 6.x/XI source 4 Foundation repository, it can no longer be accessed in the 6.x or XI environment. If you plan to make further changes to the source repository, you must make a copy of the repository before migration. 2. Continue developing the source 6.x or XI production environment, including updates to the Application Foundation repository if required. 3. Use the Cursor Manager to assign cursor ranges to the Performance Management assets imported in step 1 and to manage ID conflicts that may arise due to successive migrations from the source 6.x or XI production environment. Once you have reserved a cursor ID range, you may continue to develop new assets and InfoObjects on the XI 3.0 staging environment Use the Deployment Tool to assign repository PostFix IDs to all the repositories in your repository set, then to move Performance Management assets between up to 9 XI 3.0 test/development environments. You can move assets that originated on the source 6.x or XI environment (to which you assigned a specific Cursor ID range in step 3) and those that you developed post-migration on the on the XI 3.0 development environment (to which you assigned the PostFix ID 1). 5. When you are ready to update your XI 3.0 environment(s) with the assets you developed on the 6.x/XI source environment (in step 2), use the Import Wizard to migrate the source environment (a) to XI 3.0. The result is the XI 3.0 environment (a) in the above diagram. 6. Use the Deployment Tool to push assets from the XI 3.0 staging environment (a) to XI 3.0 test and development environments 1 through 9.
