1. PPD (PostScript Printer Description) Instructions for obtaining and setting up the Prinergy Refiner PPD are included in the file named PageFileSpecs.pdf.

In the page that appears, click on the icon for Ad & Page Creation Specs and then on the link for the file named PageFileSpecs.pdf to save this file on your computer.

1 1. PPD (PostScript Printer Description) Instructions for obtaining and setting up the Prinergy Refiner PPD are included in the file named PageFileSpecs.pdf. This file is available for download through our site: Click on the link at the top of the page for Macintosh Users. In the page that appears, click on the icon for Ad & Page Creation Specs and then on the link for the file named PageFileSpecs.pdf to save this file on your computer. Follow the instructions on page 1 of this specs file for download and setup of the PPD. 2. PDF Settings (Acrobat Distiller Job Options Settings) Instructions for obtaining and setting the PDF Settings are included in the file named PageFileSpecs.pdf. The location of this file is described in step 1 above. Follow the instructions on page 1 of this specs file for download and setup of the Job Options settings in Acrobat Distiller. 3. Make Prinergy Refiner on localhost the active Printer. Mac OS 10.5.x (Leopard) and Mac OS 10.6.x (Snow Leopard), Mac OS 10.7.x (Lion) and Mac OS 10.8.x (Mountain Lion): Open the Print & Fax (Print & Scan on Lion/Mtn Lion) window (Apple Menu > System Preferences > Print & Fax or Print & Scan) Mac OS 10.4.x (Tiger): Launch the Printer Setup Utility (HD > Applications > Utilities > Printer Setup Utility) Select PrinergyRefiner on localhost in the printer list and make it the default printer right before exporting QXP pages to PostScript (exporting process explained in step 6 on page 6 of this document). NOTE: Just before you are ready to start creating PostScript files (for PDF) from QuarkXPress, set this default printer. This step will cause the appropriate PPD to be used in the creation of the PostScript files. You will likely want to set the default printer back to the one for the device you use most for printing when PostScript file creation is complete. Leopard/Snow Leopard and Lion/Mountain Lion 4. Set PDF Preferences in QuarkXPress. Launch QuarkXPress, but do not open a QuarkXPress file. From the QuarkXPress pull-down menu, choose Preferences... Select PDF from the list on the left side of the window. Under PDF Workflow, click the radio button for Create PostScript file for Later Distilling. Click OK to save the setting. Quit QuarkXPress. 5. Create a PDF Output Style Launch QuarkXPress. From the Edit pull-down menu, choose Output Styles... In the Output Styles window, select PDF Output Styles from the Show: menu.

Pages: Do not check the Spreads box, and you should not need to check the other boxes in this window.

You may opt to export each page individually as a separate PostScript file naming each according to our PDF file naming convention for single-page files; or to export one PostScript file of all pages

2 5. Create a PDF Output Style Launch QuarkXPress. From the Edit pull-down menu, choose Output Styles... In the Output Styles window, select PDF Output Styles from the Show: menu. The New button at the bottom left of this window has a drop-down menu. Choose PDF. Type in a name for the PDF Style: Design_PS-to-PDF. Pages: Do not check the Spreads box, and you should not need to check the other boxes in this window. NOTE: If you want to generate separate PostScript files for each of multiple pages, you can put a check in the box for Export pages as separate PDFs but once you Distill the PostScript files to PDF. You may opt to export each page individually as a separate PostScript file naming each according to our PDF file naming convention for single-page files; or to export one PostScript file of all pages to Distill and then either name according to our PDF file naming convention for multiple-page files or you may split the resulting multiple-page PDF file to individual, single-page PDF files and then rename each according to our PDF file naming convention for single-page PDF files. window, skip Meta Data and click on Hyperlinks. Hyperlinks: UNcheck the box to the left of Include Hyperlinks. window, click on Compression. See Compression settings on the next page. 04/03/2014 Page 2 of 7

3 Compression: Under Color Images, set Compression: to Automatic ZIP/JPEG High and for Resolution: choose Keep Resolution. Under Grayscale Images, set Compression: to Automatic ZIP/JPEG High and for Resolution: choose Keep Resolution. Under Monochrome Images, set Compression: to CCITT Group 4 and for Resolution choose Keep Resolution. Click a check into the box to the left of Compress Text and Line Art. window, click on Color. Color: Under Color Options set Mode: to Composite. If all of the elements in the page(s) you re preparing will print in CMYK (no spot colors), choose Composite CMYK for Setup:. If any of the elements in the page(s) you re preparing will print in one or more spot colors, choose Composite CMYK and spot instead of Composite CMYK or you may choose to make this change on-the-fly. NOTE: If you often prepare files for both projects that will print all CMYK and projects that will print with one or more spot colors, create two separate PDF Styles one named DesignCMYK_PS-to-PDF and one named DesignSpot_PS-to-PDF. The Setup: selection will be the difference between these two PDF Styles. window, click on Fonts. See Fonts setting on the next page. 04/03/2014 Page 3 of 7

4 Fonts: Under Font Options, click a check into the box to the left of Download All Fonts. window, click on Marks or Registration Marks. Marks or Registration Marks: Under Registration Marks Options, set Mode: to Centered. Set Width: to QuarkXPress 8.x and 9.x and 10.x Users: Set Length: to 0.25 Set Offset: to 0.25 QuarkXPress 7.x Users: Set Length: to Set Offset: to Checking the Include Bleed Marks box is optional. Note: Include Bleed Marks is not an option in QuarkXPress 7.x. window, click on Bleed. See Bleed setting on the next page. 04/03/2014 Page 4 of 7

Bleed: Under Bleed Options, set Bleed Type: to Symmetric. Set Amount: to 0.125 Click a check into the box to the left of Clip at Bleed Edge. window, click on Transparency.

Under Item set Vector Images to 600 dpi Set Blends to 300 dpi Set Drop Shadows to 300 dpi Click a check into the box to the left of Upsample Rotations and leave the settings at To 300 dpi for images

5 Bleed: Under Bleed Options, set Bleed Type: to Symmetric. Set Amount: to Click a check into the box to the left of Clip at Bleed Edge. window, click on Transparency. Transparency: Under QuarkXPress Objects, click to turn on the radio button to the left of Flatten Transparency. Note: There is no QuarkXPress Objects section in this window in QuarkXPress 7.x. Under Item set Vector Images to 600 dpi Set Blends to 300 dpi Set Drop Shadows to 300 dpi Click a check into the box to the left of Upsample Rotations and leave the settings at To 300 dpi for images less than 200 dpi. Under Transparent Objects In Imported PDF & AI Files set Flattening Resolution to 300 dpi. Note: There is no Transparent Objects in Imported PDF & AI Files section in this window in QuarkXPress 7.x. window, click on Layers. See Layers settings on the next page. Note: There is no Layers category in QuarkXPress 7.x. If using QuarkXPress 7.x, please click on OPI and disregard the Layers section shown on the next page. 04/03/2014 Page 5 of 7

OPI: Make sure the box to the left of OPI Active is UNchecked.

If using QuarkXPress 10.x, please click on OK and disregard the OPI section shown below. OPI: Make sure the box to the left of OPI Active is UNchecked. For Save As:, Name the file Print Advertisers Company Name with with a short publication identifier, and issue.

7 6. Export to PostScript Open the QuarkXPress file and from the File pull-down menu, choose Export > Layout as PDF... In the Export as PDF window that appears, navigate to the location where you want the PostScript file(s) to be saved. For Save As:, Name the file Print Advertisers Company Name with with a short publication identifier, and issue. For Pages: specify the page or page range to be included in the PostScript file. For PDF Style: select the PDF Output Style you just created by following the instructions in this document. Click Save. The resulting PostScript file(s) can now be Distilled to PDF with Acrobat Distiller using the Florida Design PDF settings (Distiller Job Options settings). 04/03/2014 Page 7 of 7
