After finishing with diploma in 1988, he started his career as a freelance designer in the field of corporate design and typography at MetaDesign, where he began digitizing the now well known ITC Officina for Erik Spiekermann. Stations and clients: MetaDesign, Sedley Place Design, Hayn/Willemeit, Team Peter M. Scholz, tritopp, Baumgardt Consultants among others. Commerzbank AG, Cornelsen Verlag, Deutsche Bundespost, Duden Verlag, Volkswagen AG, some public transport companies, among others. A major project and professional highlight: Duden Verlag new market image. In the year 1999/2000 he played an important part in designing the book jackets of DUDEN Volume 1 to 12, giving the forefront publishing company for Germanlanguage reference works a new and distinctive face. Volume 1»Duden Die deutsche Rechtschreibung«achieved a special award at the national competition»schönste deutsche Bücher«. Hans Schumacher runs his own one-man-company under the name»projektgrafik«in Berlin, Germany. 3 2.1 URW++ FONTFORUM HANS SCHUMACHER FONTFORUM SCYLLA Scylla is his first design. The project was started in the mid 90s under the name Scully and reflects his interest in creating a straight forward, factual and elegant design the missing link between Futura and Frutiger, based on a humanistic approach. The three available weights will soon get company by a bold one, an informal design is on it's way. REGULAR MEDIUM 03 05
4 2.2 URW++ FONTFORUM HANS SCHUMACHER MEDIUM ITALIC FONTFORUM SLOPE Slope is an original design that combines a technological shape model borrowed from the early Macintosh system fonts with organic, open elements looking futuristic in a retrospective manner. Designed as part of a font family without different weights, Slope provides OpenType features for alternate letter forms in two stylistic sets. The basic version works similar to a stencil font, an alternative set has consistently closed shapes and a more rigid appearance, while the second stylistic set offers some alternative letter forms. Headlines and shorter texts set in Slope provide a variable, modern appearance. Slope Slab Pro goes very well with Slope Sans Pro and can be used as style variant or display.
