1 Use the QuarkXPress Server Manager module to send rendering requests in a multiple-quarkxpress Server-instance environment without defining which QuarkXPress Server instance processes the request. QuarkXPress Server Manager employs load-balancing, fail-safe, and caching capabilities to determine which server in the QuarkXPress Server pool can best process a document request. In effect, QuarkXPress Server Manager acts like a Web application server and relays render requests to QuarkXPress Server. If the first QuarkXPress Server instance in an array is unable to process a render request, QuarkXPress Server Manager sends the request to another QuarkXPress Server instance. Use QuarkXPress Server Manager to upload, delete, modify, create, and render documents on your QuarkXPress Server instances. 2 Minimum system requirements Minimum system requirements Except where mentioned, the following requirements apply to both the QuarkXPress Server Manager 7.2 server and client applications. Mac OS Hardware 1.5 GHz G5 processor 40GB of available hard disk space 2GB of available RAM Software Mac OS X 10.4 Java J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE ) 1.5 Windows Hardware 2 GHz Intel Pentium IV processor 40GB of available hard disk space 2GB of available RAM Software (server) Microsoft Windows 2003 Software (client) Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or Microsoft Windows 2003 Installing QuarkXPress Server Manager: Mac OS The QuarkXPress Server Manager installer lets you install both the QuarkXPress Server Manager server and the QuarkXPress Server Manager client. You must install both applications to use QuarkXPress Server Manager. To install the QuarkXPress Server Manager client or server on your computer: 1 Disable any virus protection software and restart your computer. 2 Double-click the QuarkXPressServerManager file. The Mac OS Authenticate dialog box displays. 3 Enter your name and password and then click OK. The installer splash screen displays. 4 Click Continue. The QuarkXPress Server Manager Installer dialog box displays. 5 Click Next. The License dialog box displays. 6 Read the license agreement carefully and then click Next. If you accept the terms of the agreement, click Accept. If you do not accept the terms, click Decline. NOTE You must accept the terms of the license agreement to continue. 7 Click Next to return to the QuarkXPress Server Manager Installer dialog box, and then do one or both of the following things: To install the QuarkXPress Server Manager server, check QuarkXPress Server Manager Server, enter a port number for the QuarkXPress Server Manager server s Tomcat server in page 2

3 Installing QuarkXPress Server Manager: Mac OS the Tomcat Port Number field, and then specify a cache folder location. (The cache folder will store temporary copies of content generated by the QuarkXPress Server instances that are managed by this QuarkXPress Server Manager server.) To install the QuarkXPress Server Manager client, check QuarkXPress Server Manager Client. NOTE To use QuarkXPress Server Manager, you must install both the client application and the server application. 8 Click Next. The installation location screen displays. To specify a location other than the default location, click an icon or click Browse. 9 Click Next to begin the installation. 10 When installation is complete, click Quit. Installing QuarkXPress Server Manager: Windows The QuarkXPress Server Manager installer lets you install both the QuarkXPress Server Manager server and the QuarkXPress Server Manager client. You must install at least one copy of each to use QuarkXPress Server Manager. To install the QuarkXPress Server Manager client or server on your computer: 1 Disable any virus protection software and restart your computer. 2 Double-click the setup.exe file. The first screen of the QuarkXPress Server Manager Installer window displays. 3 Click Next. The license agreement screen displays. 4 Read the license agreement carefully. If you accept the terms of the agreement, click I accept the terms of the license agreement. If you do not accept the terms, click I do not accept the terms of the license agreement. NOTE You must accept the terms of the license agreement to continue. 5 Click Next and then do one or both of the following things: To install the QuarkXPress Server Manager server, click QuarkXPress Server Manager Server, enter a port number for the QuarkXPress Server Manager server s Tomcat server in the Tomcat Port Number field, and then specify a cache folder location. (The cache folder will store temporary copies of content generated by the QuarkXPress Server instances that are managed by this QuarkXPress Server Manager server.) To install the QuarkXPress Server Manager client, click QuarkXPress Server Manager Client. NOTE To use QuarkXPress Server Manager, you must install both the client application and the server application. 6 Click Next. The installation location screen displays. To specify a location other than the default location, enter the location in the field or click Browse and navigate to the location. 7 Click Next to begin the installation. 8 When installation is complete, click Finish. page 3

4 Uninstalling QuarkXPress Server Manager: Mac OS Uninstalling QuarkXPress Server Manager: Mac OS Drag the QuarkXPress_Server_Manager_7.2 folder to the trash. Uninstalling QuarkXPress Server Manager: Windows To uninstall QuarkXPress Server Manager from your computer: 1 Choose Start Programs QuarkXPress Server Manager 7.2 Uninstall. The uninstaller window displays. 2 Click Next and then select the features to uninstall. 3 Click Next. A summary displays. 4 Click Uninstall. 5 Click Finish. To install QuarkXPress Server Manager as a service, doubleclick the service_install.bat file, and follow the instructions on the screen. To uninstall QuarkXPress Server Manager as a service, stop the service, double-click the service_uninstall.bat file, and then follow the instructions on the screen. NOTE You must perform the above step before you uninstall QuarkXPress Server Manager if you are also running it as a service. To enable QuarkXPress Server Manager to automatically repair an unresponsive QuarkXPress Server (and subrenders), start QuarkXPress Server by double-clicking the keepalive.bat file. The files referred to in the above steps are located in the QuarkXPress Server installation directory.
