2 Convert Your File Using FCP X If you ve never used FCP X before, please consult our FCP X Basics And Recommended Practices guide: FCP X uses ProRes 422 video and 48 khz, 24 bit audio by default. If you import a non- ProRes clip into FCP X using the Create Optimized Media option (page 3 of the guide linked above), it will create a ProRes 422, 48 khz, 24 bit version of your original clip. When you export (or Share in FCP s language) a Master File of that clip, it will maintain those specs. This guide assumes that you have already edited your piece and you simply wish to convert it so that it will play via the Aja Ki Pro. If all that needs to change is the audio bit rate, simply The example clip shown on page 1 needed more than just an audio bit rate change. 1. Create a New Event and New Project. Import your media via File > Import > Media. 2. In a typical editing situation, we would advocate copying your files into the Final Cut Events folder and creating proxy versions of your media. In this case we simply need to create an optimized version of the file. While the optimized version of your file is being created (you can check on its progress via the Background Tasks window or Command-9), create a New Project from the File menu (or Command-N). If you need to change anything eles in the format of your file, e.g. change its frame rate from 24 to 23.98, you can do so in this step. For Audio and Render Properties, stick with the default settings. Even though its not specified here, the default bit depth is 24 bit. (2)

3 Convert Your File Using FCP X (cont.) Drag your file from the Event Library into the Timeline of your project. Then chose Share> 3. Master File from the File menu, or use the Command-E keyboard shortcut. Click the Settings tab in the Master File Share window to confirm the specs of your soon-to-be-exported file. Click Next, then choose a destination for the output file. Once the file has exported, check your file s specs in Quicktime player as shown on page 1 to make sure your file is ready for the Aja Ki Pro! Convert Your File Using Adobe Media Encoder 1. Open Adobe Media Encoder CC 2014 and click the + button to add your file to the queue, or simply drag and drop your file into the window Click on the blue file path in the Output File column to select a destination for your new file. Next select the blue writing under either the Format, or Preset column to open the Export Settings window. (3)

4 Convert Your File Using Adobe Media Encoder (cont.) In the Export Settings, choose Quicktime in the Format drop-down menu. You don t need to select anything in the Preset menu as we will be generating a custom preset. Next, select the Video tab, and select Apple ProRes 422 as your Video Codec. Check the Width and Height of your video. It must be either 1920 x 1080, or 1280 x 720. In the Basic Video Settings sub-menu uncheck the boxes next to Width and Height, Frame Rate, Field Order, and Aspect. In the Frame Rate menu select your file s frame rate. Choose Progressive from the Field Order menu. Set the Aspect menu to Square Pixels. Check on Render at Maximum Depth, and Use Maximum Render Quality. *Note: If you don t know your file s frame size or frame rate please return Check Your Master File s Specs at the beginning of this document (4)

5 Convert Your File Using Adobe Media Encoder (cont.) Next select the Audio tab and choose Uncompressed from the Audio Codec drop down menu. Set the sample rate to Hz and set the Sample size to 24 bit. Then click OK. Finally click the green arrow to start the Queue. Now are the proud owner of a shiny new Aja file! Don t forget to label your drive. (5)
