3 Software installation This section explains how to install your Matrox display driver and PowerDesk software for your VDA product. Make sure your Matrox products are properly installed and that your monitors and network devices are properly connected. For more information on installing and connecting your Matrox products, see your Matrox user guide. Matrox display driver and PowerDesk software The first step is to install the display driver for your VDA output board. Your output board is an advanced graphics card that requires drivers to display the standard Windows desktop on up to four (4) high-definition monitors. Download the display driver Matrox makes new drivers available on the Matrox Web site. To download the driver for your product, see the Matrox Web site ( Install the display driver After downloading your software package, extract the files to a local hard drive (for example, C:\MatroxVDA\). In the Drivers folder, double click the Setup.exe file to start the installation. 1 The following screen appears. Click Next to continue the installation or Cancel to exit the program. 4 2 To start the driver installation, enable the check box next to the display driver you want to install, then click Next. 3 Click Next to continue the installation. 4 Wait while driver files are being copied to your system. 5 5 After the driver files are installed on your system, the installation of Matrox PowerDesk software starts. Click Next to continue the installation or Cancel to exit the program (not recommended). 6 Click Install to start installing PowerDesk software on your system. 7 The installation of PowerDesk software is now complete. 6 8 To complete the installation of the drivers, click Next. 9 The installation of the drivers is now complete. For changes to take effect, your computer must be restarted. Make sure Restart computer is enabled, then click Finish to restart your computer. Matrox VDA-Manager application The Matrox VDA-Manager application is designed to help VDA integrators validate and test VDA hardware, as well as use it as a reference for their own integration efforts. To install VDA-Manager, follow the instructions below. For more information, see the help file included with the VDA- Manager. 6 Software Installation and Configuration Guide

7 Install VDA-Manager After downloading your Matrox software package, extract the files to a local hard drive (for example, C:\MatroxVDA\). In the VDA-Manager folder under Applications, double-click the Setup.exe file to start the installation of the VDA-Manager application. 1 The following screen appears. Click Next to continue the installation or Cancel to exit the program. 2 Read the license agreement before continuing the installation. Click Next to continue. 3 Select where to install VDA- Manager. You can install the application in the default location (C:\Program Files\Matrox Graphics\VDA) or specify a different location by clicking Browse. When you re done, click Next to continue. 8 4 You can create a desktop icon to quickly access Matrox VDA-Manager. To create a desktop icon, enable the Create a desktop icon check box, then click Next. 5 Setup is now ready to install VDA-Manager. To change any previously selected installation options, use the Back button to go back to the previous page. 10 Software configuration This section explains how to configure your Matrox display driver and PowerDesk software for your VDA product. Configure the Matrox decoder card Your Matrox decoder card is equipped with three Network Interface Connectors (NICs). Two of the NICs add redundancy to the network where video streaming devices are located (CAM). The third connector (INTRA) is used for the intrasystem communication network between the Matrox decoder card and the VDA host system (the computer in which your VDA hardware is installed). By default, your Matrox decoder card ships with DHCP enabled. The SMD Utility identifies the camera network ports as NIC 1 and NIC 2. The SMD Utility identifies the intra-system communication port as NIC 3. To configure all configuration ports, use the SMD Utility. Running the SMD Utility The first time your run the SMD Utility, a dialog box opens enabling you to see, select, and configure the VDA decoder cards in your system. The SMD Utility is part of your VDA software package and can be found in the Tools\Decoder Configuration folder of your VDA folder. The SMD Utility finds the Matrox decoder cards installed in your VDA host system. A check mark ( ) indicates the SMD Utility was able to establish communications with a Matrox decoder card. An X mark ( ) indicates the SMD Utility couldn t establish communications with a Matrox decoder card. The decoder card may be on a different sub-network than your host system. For more information on your network setup, see your network administrator. If a Matrox decoder card isn t detected, the card may need time to finish booting up or may require a reset. 10 Software Installation and Configuration Guide

11 First-time configuration of the Matrox decoder card The local Matrox decoder card must be configured for the first time with its IP and subnet information before it can be connected to the VDA host system. To configure the local Matrox decoder card: 1 Make sure the firewall on your system is disabled. 2 Click Refresh List ( ) to make sure your list of Matrox decoder card is up to date. 3 Select your Matrox decoder card to configure the network ports. At least one camera network port needs to be configured to receive IP video streams from surveillance devices such as IP cameras or encoders. The second camera network port is required for redundant network architecture. The camera network and the intra-system communication ports must be configured on separate network portions. The network portion and the host portion make up a complete IP address. To find out how your network is sub-netted, contact your network administrator. 4 Click Apply. 12 Verifying NIC status on the VDA host system To check the network configuration that the VDA Host System is reporting: 1 Click Network Adapters ( ). 2 The NIC status appears for each network adapter detected. Select the network adapter to which your decoder card is connected. 3 Click OK to close the dialog box. 12 Software Installation and Configuration Guide
