1 Windows Live Movie Maker is available on your PC for creating and editing videos. The program provides a step-by-step guide for creating a video with your videos and images. 2 Open Movie Maker 1. Movie Maker is available on your computer through the start button in the bottom left corner. 2. Click All Programs to locate the program or type Movie Maker in the Search box. 3. Click on the program to open. Overview 1. Pull down menu of options including create new movie and save. 2. Ribbon toolbar stretches across the entire movie maker window with editing options. 3. Preview area of your video clips and images. 4. Storyboard area with clips and images. 4 Add Videos and Images 1. Press Add Videos and Photos button under the Home tab. 2. Locate the videos and images saved to your computer. 3. To select multiple files at one time, hold the Control key or Shift key and click on each file. 4. Once you have added your images and videos, do not forget to save your project. (Click the pull down menu on the left and choose Save Project.) Video files on your camera? See your camera manual for how to save the video files to your computer. AutoMovie 1. Once you add all your images and videos to your project, you can choose to have Movie Maker spice up your video. AutoMovie will provide titles, effects, and transitions automatically. This feature is optional. 2. Click AutoMovie button. 3. Click Ok. 4. Add music if you have not done so. In a few moments, AutoMovie will configure your video. Click Close when complete. 5. To play back your movie, click the spacebar or click the Play button under the Preview box. Add Music 1. Click the Add Music button. 2. Locate the music track that is saved to your computer. 5 Fade in and Fade out 1. To make the music fade in or out, click the music. 2. Under Music Tools, Options tab, in the Audio group Fade In: Click on the Fade In list and click the speed. Fade Out: Click the Fade Out list and click the speed for Fade Out. Trim Music 1. Click the music, and then drag the playback cursor on the storyboard to where you want the music to start or stop playing in your video. 2. Start Point: Under Music Tools, Options tab, in the Editing group, click Set Start Point. 3. Stop Point: Under Music Tools, Options tab, in the Editing group, click Set End Point. Trim Video 1. To trim the length of your video clip, choose the video you want to trim. In the storyboard, click and drag the playback cursor to the point where you want the video to start or stop playing in your movie. 2. Under Video Tools, the Edit tab, in the Editing group Start point: Click Set Start Point. End Point: Click Set End Point. Split Video Clip A video clip can be split into smaller portions and rearranged in your video. 1. Click the video to highlight it. 2. Drag the playback cursor to where you want to split the video. 6 Add Titles 1. Determine which photo or video you would like the title to appear. Click on the photo or video. 2. Click the Title button on the Home tab. 3. Enter your title. 4. In the Text Tools, Format tab, you can change the font, size, color, and effects. Text duration will determine the amount of time the text will appear. Add Captions 1. Add captions to the end of your video. Captions can include crediting your sources or images and videos. 2. Click the last photo or video. 3. Click the Credits button (Home tab). Use the Text Tools-Format tab to edit. Add Transitions 1. Click the Animations tab at the top. 2. Put your mouse over the transition to preview. Once you decide on a transition, click the transition and it will be added to your video. To add to multiple clips, hold the Shift key and click on several clips. Click on the transition to add it to the selected clips. Add Effects 1. Click the Animations tab at the top. Options will appear including Visual Effects. 2. Click the Visual Effects tab to show the different effects you can add to videos and photos. 3. Put your mouse over the effect to see it in action. Choose one by clicking on it. 7 Finalize and Share Video Before others can view your video, you must complete this final step. 1. From the pull down menu, choose Save Movie. 2. Select Standard Definition, type a file name, and click Save. 3. It will take a few moments to finalize and save. 4. Your video is now a WMV file Windows Media Player file. It can play on any PC. Upload Video to School Center You can upload the video to School Center, but the video will need to be 100 MB or less in size. 1. In Edit Mode, mouse into the content field. 2. Click on the Add Image Icon in the right hand side of the box. 3. Click on the Browse button to locate your video file OR Click on Upload Video to embed the file in the page. 4. Click on the Upload File button. 5. In the next window, click on Done. Please read the Ethical Use of Information/Copyright information before posting videos online. Education Services December 6,

8 Ethical Use of Information/Copyright Fair Use only applies to an educational setting. Once something is published on the Internet where others can view, permission must be obtained from the copyright owner. The copyright symbol or notice does not have to appear for the image, video, text, etc. to be copyrighted. Images and videos can be embedded as they show the original location of the file and original owner has given permission to embed. Images and videos that are copyrighted cannot be pasted in our presentations - even if cited. Creativecommons.org and other sites (see Photo and Music Resources on the TechSource website) are available for locating copyright-friendly media. Typically, items posted that are in violation of copyright will be pulled from the site. See your building library media specialist for more information. Education Services December 6,
