Action Caller Overview Version 1.01
Document Summary This document describes the operation of the ActionCaller application and how it interacts between the Cisco Handsets, Cisco Unified CallManager and the application suite. What is ActionCaller? ActionCaller is an application from that allows scripted two way communication between Cisco Handsets. The solution has been specifically designed to service internal company requests between fixed locations such as Meeting Rooms or customer service areas and the facilities management team. For instance the service can be configured on meeting room handsets to request a number of services like: - Coffee for 1 Coffee for 2 etc Tea for 2 etc Biscuits Required Please Internal Runner Each request is tagged with the initiating location so the recipient knows who has sent the request. The request is then pushed to the recipient s phone (such as a catering representative) where they will have a number of options that are configured in the configuration files, such as: Accepted On way Please call 07979xxxxxx Sorry not available Once selected this message is pushed back to the sender s Cisco IP Handset display as a confirmation of the action.
If the recipient does not receive the message (i.e. the device is currently not available) then the sender will receive this information. If the recipient does receive the message but does not respond within a preset time then the system can be configured to resend every X minutes and it is configurable as to how many times it will attempt to retry before the sender receives a message saying there has been no response. Where it is not possible to have a fixed button on the telephone (i.e. buttons are not available or a user has logged on using extension mobility over the default profile) then a simple dial code can used to push the application to the sender. The following diagram shows the typical operation (however there are a number of other programmable scenarios including unable to accept job and there will be a delay of X etc): - Service Request
Retry Scenarios If no response in set time period / quantity of retries a message is sent back to the sender informing the user What are the licensing requirements? The application runs on a standard tested apache platform running PHP as the active html/xml engine. No licensing is required for this.
The ActionCaller application is licensed per device for both senders and receivers as follows: - Total Applications Handsets Cost 1 to 10 handsets $ to 20 handsets $ to 50 handsets $ to 100 handsets $ handsets to 200 handsets $ handset and above $2995 The license is enforced as a complete application and therefore it is important that your license covers you for the total quantity. If further handsets are configured to use the service and this exceeds the license count then those devices will not work. Specifically this is the total count of handsets configured to send or receive ActionCaller requests and not the total handsets within your cluster. What Cisco Products are supported? The application has been written to work with Cisco Unified CallManager 5 and above. The following handsets have been tested with the application: - Cisco 7905 Cisco 7906 Cisco 7910 Cisco 7911 Cisco 7912 Cisco 7920 Cisco 7921 Cisco 7925 Cisco 7942 Cisco 7940 Cisco 7941 Cisco 7945 Cisco 7960 Cisco 7961 Cisco 7962 Cisco 7965 Cisco 7970 Cisco 7971 Cisco 7975 Cisco 7980 Cisco 7931 Cisco 6901 Cisco 6911 Cisco 6921 Cisco 6941 Cisco 6961 Cisco 9951 Cisco 9971
