1 Top Takeaways: Know where to navigate and access the Groups features Know the differentiation between a Group Type and a Group Have a command on how to create a Group Type and an individual Group Groups Configuration Groups are smaller sets of members that you can create and allow to interact with one another on their own social interactive area within your site. Two things to Configure: Group Types These are the categories of the kinds of groups you will have Groups These are the actual groups that members can join within the Group Types Group Types Navigation: Features Menu Tab > Website & Social Section > Group Management > Add a New Group Type o Group Type Name The name of the category o Link Member Types to Group Type Select which member types can join the groups within in this group type o Short Description This appears on the main group type selection page beneath the group type name. o Long Description This appears at the top of each group type s page above the list of its groups. o Submit Group Type Options o Edit Allows you to edit the group type settings

2 o Security & Settings for all groups Allows you to change different settings for all of the groups in that group type en masse. Note The settings reflected in this tool always reflect the default settings and not the settings that you ve just changed or the settings within all of the groups. After making a change en masse it s best to view an individual group s settings to see the changes. o Default Group Layout Allows you to change the layout of all of the groups within that group type en masse. o Trash can Allows you to delete the group type once all of the groups have been deleted Groups Navigation: Features Menu Tab > Website & Social Section > Group Management > Add a New Group o Type Select the group type/category this group falls under o Group Name The descriptive name of the group o Group Code This is a system identifier that is also used to append the friendly URL for the group o Friendly URL The direct URL to the group o Group Accessibility Private Only active members of this group can view the group features. Open All signed in site members can view this group and the group features. Public All users (including non-members) can view group. o Membership Options Any community member may join this group Anybody can join the group without going through an approval process. Members may request to join this group Members must be approved for membership in the group. Only group & site admins can add members to group Members cannot request to join the group. They are added by a site or group admin. o Hidden No 2

3 Yes This hides the group from any lists on the frontend. It will only appear to members who are in that group. A group or site admin will have to add members to a hidden group. o Allow Group Admins to export? No Yes This will allow group admins on the frontend to export their group member data into a CSV file. o Auto Approve Photos No A group or site admin must approve uploaded images before they are posted to the group gallery. Yes o Bulk Options Auto-approve group s sent by any group member This allows any group member to send a bulk to the entire group without going through an approval process. Auto-approve group s sent by group admins This setting will autoapprove any group s sent by a group admin. However, if a group member sends a bulk to the group, it will require approval from the site admin. s must be approved by site admins before sent.
