D nt unzip an exprt package r add/delete files frm the package because the cntents will nt imprt crrectly. EXPORT yur curse 1. Open the curse yu want t exprt and g t Cntrl Panel > Packages and Utilities > Exprt/Archive Curse. On the Exprt/Archive Curse page, select Exprt Package. 2. On the Exprt Curse page, include nly the links t curse files r include the links and cpies f the curse files cntent. 3. In the Select Curse Materials sectin, click n Select All. rev: April 2017 page 1 f 5
2 4. Scrll dwn the list, find Discussin Bard, and select Include nly frums with n starter psts. 5. Click Submit. It may take a few minutes. Yu will get an when it is cmpleted and ready t dwnlad. After receiving cnfirmatin that yur curse exprt was successful, yu can imprt the packaged curse t a different curse. 6. After yu get an that the exprt is cmpleted, click n Refresh 7. If yur curse exprt was successful there shuld be an exprt file in Exprt/Archive Windw (as shwn belw). The zipped file appears as a link in the Exprt/Archive Curse page. T save it, click n the chevrn buttn next t the file name and select Open. It will dwnlad t yur cmputer. Delete the Package After yu ve dwnladed it NOTE: Mst cmmnly the zip file is dwnladed t yur Dwnlads flder. Please navigate t the Dwnlads flder and find the zip file. DO NOT OPEN IT. Yu will need t have the zip file ready fr the next step. NOTE - MAC USERS: If yu are using a Mac cmputer, the Mac cmputer will expand the file int a flder and put the.zip file in the trash. Remve the file frm the trash. The.zip file is what yu need. The exprted.zip file is nt a "stand alne" site in the sense that it can be viewed in a brwser as a functining Blackbard curse. 3 IMPORT yur curse Yu dn't want t uplad an exprted curse package that yu have edited after it was created and dwnladed. If yu pen the ZIP file and change any f the files in the exprted curse package, the result will be unstable and unpredictable behavir when the curse is imprted. It will fail. *Be sure t Imprt int a given curse nly ne time. Imprting the same zip file a secnd time, will add duplicates f all f the materials and grade center clumns. 1. Open the curse yu want t imprt t and g t Cntrl Panel > Packages and Utilities > Imprt Package/View Lgs. On the Imprt Package/View Lgs page, select Imprt Package. D nt unzip the curse prir t imprting materials! Individual files cannt be imprted 2. In the Select a Package sectin, click n Brwse My Cmputer and select the zip file. After yu get an that the imprt is successfully cmpleted, yur materials will nw appear in the new curse. Be sure t check yur curse materials carefully, as lder curses may nt imprt perfectly. NOTE: Be patient as the prcess may take a while. D NOT try t cpy the same curse int the new curse mre than nce. Otherwise, yu will end up with duplicate cntent. Review the Curse Yu shuld next review the curse: Click thrugh each page. Remve any references t a previus instructr. Update the curse due dates Check that the curse menu is set up prperly. Lk fr and crrect any duplicate curse menu items. Rerganize the curse menu as needed by dragging and drpping menu items. Delete Old Discussin Psts fund in the curse. 5 Frequently Asked Questins Why can t I d a curse cpy? Curse cpy causes curse blat (curse ver quta limit). Instead, it is pssible t exprt and imprt curse materials. Yu can exprt yur curse, save it, and then imprt it (r sectins f it) int a new Blackbard curse. This cpy methd als prvides yu with a persnal backup f yur Blackbard curse. The exprted curse is a zipped file yu can stre n yur cmputer. Yu may save the curse t yur PC r MAC, a USB drive, a CD r DVD, Ggle Drive r One Drive. Yu may need t save yur zipped curse t a DVD rather than a CD if the curse is large. Why shuld I use the exprt and imprt methd? There are many times where it can be beneficial t save the cntent f yur curse s yu can reuse it at a later date. This actin is called exprting a curse. The act f reusing the infrmatin is called imprting a curse. Exprting / Imprting a curse is different than archiving a curse because all f the student infrmatin is saved during a curse archive, but nly cntent is saved during the exprt / imprt prcess. Hw d I let anther instructr cpy my curse? If yu want t share a curse with anther instructr, yu culd exprt the curse, and send the ther instructr the file. They culd then imprt the curse int ne f their wn Blackbard cntainers. Des the exprt methd include student infrmatin? The Exprt Curse prcess des nt include any scres r assignments frm students in the current curse. It includes cntent, settings, and tls. Yu will need t archive yur curse. The Archive Curse ptin is similar t exprting a curse, hwever alng with curse cntent, curse archives als include enrllments and student-related materials such as Discussin psts, Digital Drpbx files, grades, etc. Can I retrieve curse dcuments frm an exprted.zip file? Nt easily. If yu extract files frm yur.zip file t a flder, yur curse dcuments will be in the resulting file flder smewhere. Unfrtunately, they will be buried deep within a filing structure that makes n visual sense frm yur perspective. As a result, yu will have t hunt thrugh this flder system t find yur dcuments, like lking fr the prverbial needle in a haystack. An easier apprach wuld be t imprt yur.zip file int yur sandbx Blackbard curse, and then dwnlad the files yu need. Alternatively, yu can dwnlad the individual dcuments frm yur curse using the Dwnlad Package utility in Curse Files. I teach at anther University that uses Blackbard. Can I imprt r cpy my curse materials frm their Blackbard system? Yu can imprt a.zip file frm a curse exprted at anther University ONLY if that university is using the same versin f Blackbard as Gallaudet University. Using files created n different versins f Blackbard has resulted in crrupt curses.
