Please click on the home button to come back here and choose another topic Editing your Profile Settings & Format options for your course What are Sticky Blocks? Adding additional blocks to your course Important icons
To start editing your profile Click on your name above the My Dashboard area. Click on EDIT PROFILE to continue
Fill in the appropriate information as seen here. Note: The seen here is a DCCC account. We are encouraging all instructors to advice students that we will be using their DCCC account to create their profile in Moodlerooms. Students need to check their account daily since this will be the same tied to their courses. All Moodlerooms Course Announcements, Assignments and Forum notifications will go to student s DCCC account as well.
To upload a photo for your profile, click on the BROWSE button and make sure your picture is less than the maximum size. Type in a brief description and interests (optional) to complete your editing process. Finish by clicking on UPDATE PROFILE. Once you are done with this task, Moodlerooms will take you back to your Profile page.
Settings & Format options for your course 1. Login to Moodlerooms 2. Click on My Dashboard to locate your course. 3. Click on the name of your course. 4. In your Administration block click on SETTINGS.
Here you are in the General where you can see the Category and the Full Name your course has. Scroll down to the Summary area and type in a brief description to your course.
When you scroll down further, you will see the core of the Settings area. The next slide will give you more detail on what to choose for the FORMAT option. Select the number of weeks your course will run, or the amount of topics needed within the course. Make sure that you verify the start date of your course is correct. The News option just lets you pick how many news announcements you want your students to view in the front page of the course. Every other option can be left at the default setting you see here.
The FORMAT option is where you can determine how you want your course to appear. There are 7 alternatives to choose from but at our college we will be using 3: Collapsed Topics, Topics format and Weekly format. The default settings in Moodlerooms is the Topic format. That doesn t mean its the best or you need to leave it that way. At DCCC we want you to choose what design flow is the best according to your need. In the next slides you will start to see examples of all 3 formats.
Example of a Collapsed Topic Format Click on the triangle within your course in order to open the topic area and see all the material in it.
Example of a Topic Format Topics are numbered so you can keep track of them
Example of a Weekly Format The Weeky format outlines the date. The week you are presently in is automatically highlighted in gray at the sides. This makes it easier for students to identify the week after logging in.
The Enrolments and the Enrolment Expiry Notification area is already at its default settings. Please DO NOT make any alterations to these settings seen in the images provided.
Groups is the area where you can choose what type of groups you want to target within the entire course. If you do not want to deal with groups then please leave the settings at When you are done with all the settings to your course scroll down to the end and click on
What are Sticky Blocks? Sticky blocks are a series of blocks that have been set as non-removable blocks in your Moodlerooms course. During the first stages of investigation on what worked better for instructors and what was it that students liked to use, we came up with these blocks that are now available in every course Template. The following blocks are: Left side Calendar Latest News Administration Right side Quickmail v 2.5 DCCC Helpful Links My DCCC Courses
Adding additional blocks to your First, click on course Scroll down to the block that will look like this one and click on the drop down menu.
As you can see here, there are many different types of blocks to choose from. Use your scroll bar to be able to view them all. Optional: the scroll button of your mouse works better than clicking the left button for scrolling though them.
We encourage you to explore through the different blocks. You can DELETE the block if you see you didn t need or want it by clicking on the red X. In this example, the People block has been chosen. As soon as you click on the type of block you want, Moodlerooms will take you to the front-page of the course. Each block has editing icons (as seen below) for you to determine each block s settings. In order to view that same type of block again in the ADD area, you must REFRESH your browser. You can also use blocks only when you need them. When you are finished using them, just delete them from your course. You can just come back later and access them again.
Important icons to use AJAX GROUP -Collapse -Hide Icons found in the Weekly format INDENT UPDATE/ EDIT DELETE HIDE LOCK -Collapse -Highlight topic area -Hide Icons found in the Topic format
