1 HP OpenCall Media Platform 4.1 Data sheet HP OpenCall Media Platform 4.1 enables you to deliver cutting-edge interactive multimedia services to your subscribers, resulting in increased revenue and improved customer loyalty. Adding interaction to video content Adapting video formats to many devices Creating new video user interfaces Internet, blogging, and services such as YouTube are the symbols of today s major trends in communication: mobility, multimedia, and the explosion of communities. The widespread use of camera phones and the increasing success of 3G phones have made capturing and sharing multimedia content an important part of mobile subscribers personal and business communications. Responding to these trends, service providers can now deliver compelling visual experiences while hiding the technology that enables them. In these efforts, key objectives include: Subscriber-centric services that allow users to access their communication and entertainment services at any time, from any place and from any device. Services that are personal, context aware and rich with content. Services that are highly adaptive, cost efficient and able to anticipate and meet the needs of customers. In this new market environment, services must be connected and delivered over a variety of networks, including 3G, next-generation network (NGN) and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), the Internet for content access, and 2G when out of coverage. These services can also be enriched by information from the IP Multimedia Subsystem, such as presence and location, or information from the Web 2.0, such as personal and social preferences.
2 Meet the challenge with HP OpenCall Media Platform HP OpenCall Media Platform 4.1 is a scalable, carrier-grade Internet Protocol (IP) multimedia server that helps you accelerate the creation and deployment of interactive access to content, person-to-person, and community multimedia services. You can implement a wide range of services on HP OpenCall Media Platform. The platform supports interactive voice and video response systems (IVVR), multimedia portals, multimedia messaging, audio and video conferencing, sharing, blogging, and community-centric multimedia services. HP OpenCall Media Platform supports access to multiple networks: Circuit-switched 3G networks Circuit-switched 2G networks when out of 3G coverage or for 2G subscribers Packet-switched, NGN, and IMS Broadband/Internet for content access Web 2.0 and IMS for information such as presence, location, and social preferences In addition, HP OpenCall Media Platform supports a diversity of deployment architectures, from Web services using VoiceXML/CCXML or Java to NGN/IMS services using MSCML and Netann protocols. It gives your developers a high-level abstraction while at the same time providing low-level control of all aspects of the system, including call and media control. The range of deployment options, industry-standard interfaces, software-based media processing, cross network multimedia services support, and wide range of compelling voice and video services also makes HP OpenCall Media Platform an excellent choice for your journey on the road to IMS, including the key steps of consolidation, convergence, and innovation. HP OpenCall Media Platform product differentiators Support network convergence and protect your investment: HP OpenCall Media Platform is ready for deployment into today s 3G, broadband, NGN as well as IMS networks. HP leadership and a strong commitment to standards gives you a platform with long-term viability and helps protect your service investments. Enable revenue-generating applications: The features of the HP OpenCall Media Platform enable a wide range of advanced multimedia services, including access to content, messaging, sharing, and audio and video conferencing. These services help you generate video traffic to leverage your 3G/UMTS license investments and compensate for the decline in average revenue per user (ARPU) from voice services. These innovative services encourage consumer interest and attract early adopters to 3G. They also help you differentiate your offerings from the competition and encourage consumer interest in multimedia services by providing attractive content and innovative applications. Attract new subscribers and reduce churn with a top-quality user experience: The platform delivers rich, easy-to-use and very reactive user interaction, combining simple keyboard (DTMF) and intuitive voice interaction (ASR) for the best experience. It also offers excellent image quality that leverages more than ten years of HP research and development in software-based voice and video processing technologies. Gain freedom of choice: HP OpenCall, with its strong partner ecosystem, gives you the flexibility to choose from a wide selection of the most compelling video services. Moreover, this offering is available either from partners with a strong focus in your region or from partners with a global reach. 2
3 Leverage industry standards: HP OpenCall Media Platform implements W3C, IETF and 3GPP standard interfaces, such as VoiceXML and CCXML, and protocols such as Netann, MSCML, SIP, RTP, RTCP, RTSP and MRCP. It also relies on industry-standard hardware, including rackmount and blade servers, and Carrier Grade blades and operating systems, such as standard Linux. Enable automatic natural call completion between 3G and 2G: Calls from a 3G subscriber to a 2G user will be connected. Calls to an out-of-coverage 3G subscriber or a 2G subscriber will be connected in audio. The service/solution is responsible for the video content that will be displayed to the 3G subscriber on the call (avatar, advertisement, and so on). Benefit from the proven track record of HP in the media domain: HP OpenCall Media Platform 4.1 is founded on the industry s most complete and mature platform for voice services. More than 500,000 voice ports and 2,200 platforms are commercially deployed in over 45 countries. Increase 3G video service usage Video services represent a strong business driver for 3G communications. However, how do you best take advantage of the opportunity? Once you launch video services, how do you make sure compelling user experiences that will generate steady uptake in 3G video service adoption? Poor user interfaces and complex user interactions have proven to be key deterrents to video service adoption. Addressing this challenge head-on, the HP OpenCall Media Platform product fully leverages standard handset capabilities and their interaction features, such as keypads, voice interface, and displays. Choose from the widest range of compelling voice and video services By simply dialing a standard phone number, thanks to the HP OpenCall Media Platform, subscribers can reach voice and video services. They can gain access to recorded or live content, video messaging, video telephony, and multimedia entertainment. These services are available from leading application providers that have adopted the HP OpenCall Media platform or are available directly from HP. Access to content Support of RTP/RTSP protocols enables: Recorded content access: The HP OpenCall Media Platform is interoperable with standard content delivery technology, such as Real Networks Helix and Apple Darwin streaming server. This enables you to deliver to your subscribers the popular content they demand, such as music clips or TV video clips right to their handsets. Access to live content streamed from IP or 3G cameras: This enables the surveillance or monitoring of remote locations, traffic or weather conditions. Streamed live content access for entertainment: This includes access to live TV channels and live newscasts selected by theme, such as sport, business or weather. Messaging Video messaging, video greeting services and next-generation voic For these services, the HP OpenCall Media Platform is used for call termination and execution of voice and/or video dialogs. These dialogs use various combinations of audio prompts, video clips and avatars, and ASR/TTS. Personalization of the look and feel of the video-mail interface through video avatars is easy. 3
4 Video blogging: This service brings the world of video blogging to 3G mobile phones. Video blogs enable users to watch, rate, create and share video messages with others using 3G mobile phones. These recordings can then either be published immediately or be sent for vetting before publication through administrative interfaces. Blogging is free of digital rights management issues, since the content is generated by the users themselves. This makes it an ideal service for 3G traffic generation. Participation TV: User audiences can call a video shortcode and are guided through the process of recording comments and views for sharing on air. These video clips are then delivered direct to the broadcasting studio. Video SMS: A video SMS service user simply dials to connect to the video SMS solution and then leaves a message guided by video prompts. The video message is automatically delivered and played when the recipient answers the incoming call. Telephony Call completion: Call completion services for voice and video calls are designed to reduce the number of unsuccessful connections and voic slam-down. Such services identify calls where one party could not reach another party. Several notification methods can inform the party that there was an unsuccessful call attempt and facilitate the establishment of a new call. Personalized video ring-back tone: The HP OpenCall Media Platform offers high-performance characteristics and intimate integration with 3G-324m video gateways to support fast call establishment mechanisms. This enables the deployment of applications with a profile of high call rate and short call duration, such as video ring-back tones. Advanced audio/video conferencing: The HP OpenCall Media Platform offers a video group communication enabler that can be launched from any collaboration or instant communication service. It enables advanced audio and video conferences for businesses or consumers. Instant or scheduled group communications: This service offers a new way for people to communicate. Extending from one-to-one communication, it allows entire groups or communities to share instant or videocommunications. This includes the ability to share pictures, movie trailers, video clips, and video blogs with friends. Enterprises can also use advanced conferencing in association with other collaborative tools to increase productivity and save travel costs. Video sharing: Person-to-person video sharing during a call is a clear progress from multimedia messaging service (MMS)-based video messaging. The sharing of video content, either live or pre-recorded, enriches the user experience. Music portals and promotion portals: Video portals have helped promote events such as new albums and film launches. They can provide access to exclusive content and downloads, and allow the public to send in their own videos. This kind of portal has already been used to successfully promote up-and-coming bands using music videos and personal videomail greetings. Audio and video call centers: Call centers are essential to building better relationships with customers. The addition of video allows businesses to entertain, inform or advertise to customers while waiting for an operator. When the operator becomes available, he or she can play video clips in response to certain questions, thus saving operation time and reducing 4
