2 Refreshing Axim TEST If yu maintain an Axim TEST envirnment yu will want t refresh it with a current cpy f yur PROD database when develping new functinality (and migrate later int PROD) r testing an Axim upgrade. Steps fr backing up and restring an Axim database can be fund in the Axim EPM Installatin Guide lcated in every prgram dwnlad package and n the Axim Prduct Prtal; hwever, this dcument lists additinal items t cnsider when refreshing a TEST envirnment. NOTE: These fllwing steps are primarily fr Axim V6.4 and abve which n lnger utilizes the AximMgmt database. A brief list at the end f the dcument cntains a list f items t cnsider when using Axim V6.3 and lder. Create a Backup f PROD When restring a cpy f PROD int TEST yu can use a recent backup file created as part f yur SQL maintenance plan. Or yu can backup PROD manually using the Axim Sftware Manager (ASM) r SQL Management Studi. T create a backup using ASM: Launch the Axim Sftware Manager (ASM) n the PROD applicatin server. Enter the: PROD SQL server name. Name f the PROD Axim database. The Backup Flder, which needs t be a lcal path n the PROD SQL server. It is nt necessary t make a backup f the Audit Database since a refreshed TEST envirnment usually starts with a fresh Audit Database. Click Create Backup t begin the backup prcess. Cpy the SQL.BAK file t a lcal drive n the TEST SQL server. Cpyright 2014 Axim EPM. All rights reserved. 1

3 Refreshing Axim TEST Restre the Backup t TEST When restring an Axim database yu shuld use ASM, rather than a direct restre using SQL Management Studi, since there are ther tasks that need t be perfrmed after the restre. The versin f ASM in TEST needs be the same versin, r higher, than the versin used in PROD. Launch the Axim Sftware Manager (ASM) n the TEST applicatin server and: Type/cnfirm the TEST SQL server name. Select the TEST Axim database. Type/cnfirm the Data and Lg paths n the TEST SQL server. Type the Axim SQL lgin/pw if changed since the last restre. Check the Applicatin Database bx, t restre ver the TEST system. Check Restre and the lcal path t the backup file. Check Audit Database and Create New Standalne t create a new Audit database. Click Restre. Click Ok when prmpted that the TEST databases will be replaced by the PROD backup. Cpyright 2014 Axim EPM. 5 Refreshing Axim TEST Upgrading the TEST Database Once the restre has cmpleted ASM will autmatically present the Upgrade Database dialg. Click the Pre-Upgrade Check t cnfirm there are n system changes t address after the restre prcess. If PROD and TEST have the same versin f Axim installed then there shuld be n changes; hwever, it is gd practice t run the check each time yu restre a database. 6 Refreshing Axim TEST Click Ok when the upgrade has cmpleted. In the ASM menu select Installatin Manager > Reset Server Cache. Cnfirm that the crrect Axim URL is selected, and click Reset. Changes t the TEST System The system that nw resides in yur TEST envirnment is a replica f PROD. Therefre sme f the settings and cntent will relate t the PROD envirnment and shuld be changed. System Cnfiguratins Here are sme system cnfiguratin changes yu might want t make. Open the ASM n the TEST applicatin server. G t Installatin Manager > Cnfigure System Prperties. If the TEST system is cnfigured t create shrtcuts yu can mdify the shrtcut names by appending TEST s that yur TEST shrtcuts will differ frm the PROD shrtcuts. Cpyright 2014 Axim EPM. 7 Refreshing Axim TEST The SystemName value will cntain the PROD system name; change this t be yur TEST system name. Click Update t accept these changes. Axim Security The TEST system will have the same Axim users that existed in PROD. If TEST shuld nly be available t admin users yu can use the Cntrl System Access feature in Axim Security t set access t Administratrs nly. If yu cannt restrict TEST t admin users nly, then yu can disable/delete users frm Security Manager wh shuld nt be lgging int TEST. Axim Scheduler The Scheduler > Servers list in TEST will include the names f the PROD Scheduler servers since that infrmatin was stred in the PROD backup. The Server Status will be Unknwn because the PROD servers are nt cnfigured t mnitr the TEST system. Cpyright 2014 Axim EPM. All rights reserved. 6

8 Refreshing Axim TEST Yu can highlight each f the PROD schedulers and uncheck the Schedule Prcessing Enabled checkbx t disable it, click Update, and leave them in the list. Hwever, if yu want t remve them t eliminate cnfusin with PROD, yu can: Open the TEST database in SQL Management Studi. Run the SQL query: DELETE FROM ScheduledJbResult. This will delete the jb results assciated with the PROD schedulers. Right-click n each PROD scheduler server in the Scheduler Servers list and select Remve Server Registratin. Cpyright 2014 Axim EPM. 9 Refreshing Axim TEST Once the ld scheduler servers are remved yu can re-activate the TEST schedulers. On the Axim Applicatin Server pen Internet Infrmatin Services (IIS) Manager. On the Cnnectins task pane: Drill int the applicatin server name. Select Applicatin Pls. Highlight the applicatin pl fr TEST. Click Recycle in the Actins pane. 10 Refreshing Axim TEST T reactivate the TEST scheduler service: Lg int the TEST scheduler server and pen Server Manager. View the Services list. Restart the Axim EPM Scheduler Service. Cpyright 2014 Axim EPM. All rights reserved. 9

11 Refreshing Axim TEST Yu shuld nw see the Scheduler Server appear in the Scheduler > Servers list. Check the Schedule Prcessing Enabled bx and click Update. The Scheduler server s Prcessr Enabled status shuld change t Enabled and Prcessr Status shuld change t Running when yu refresh the dialg. Cpyright 2014 Axim EPM. All rights reserved. 10

12 Refreshing Axim TEST Other items t check in Scheduler: System.SMTPMessageDelivery Jb The restre prcess shuld autmatically disable the SMTPMessageDelivery jb. If yu wish t leave it disabled then yu d nt need t d anything further. If yu intend t send s frm TEST then yu shuld uncheck the Test Mde bx n the SMTPMessageDeliveryTask. Scheduled Jbs tab Fr scheduled jbs that shuld nt be prcessing regularly in TEST, select Scheduling Rules in the task pane and deactivate the rule(s). Refreshing the TEST Envirnment in Axim V6.3 and Prir The steps t refresh Axim Versin 6.3 and prir are a little different. When backing up PROD yu can include the AximMgmt database. Restre the system database and AximMgmt database int TEST. If restring AximMgmt then immediately fllwing the restre and prir t the Database Upgrade step, pen the AximMgmt TEST database using SQL Management Studi: Open the db.installatin table, using Edit Tp 200 Rws. Change the DbServer fr the TEST system t the TEST database server name. Change the DbName fr the TEST system t the TEST database name. Failing t perfrm this step can result in a crruptin f yur PROD system. If yu chse *nt* t restre the AximMgmt database int TEST yur TEST users may nt inherit the same security rights/permissins as they have in PROD. When deleting the PROD scheduled jb results yu wuld access the db.scheduledjbresult table in the restred AximMgmt database. Cpyright 2014 Axim EPM. All rights reserved. 11
