3 Page 3/16 UPDATES 01/10/2007 First Edition 1. INTRODUCTION The IP PA Interface allows connecting an IP-PBX to a public address system. The interface acts as a SIP phone. It is possible to connect to the PA system from any phone set by simply dialing the PA interface phone number. 2. DESCRIPTION 2.1 Operating diagram Ethernet Link SIP Phone 600Ω ouput to external amplifier Busy Indication Volume 1 Volume 2 Volume 3 Volume 4 Output volume selection inputs Once a SIP call established, the interface receives an RTP stream through the Ethernet link and provides the resulting audio signal output to the external amplifier. The volume of the audio output can be configured by selecting one of the 4 selection inputs (by making a loop) When the interface is busy (in conversation), the busy indication relay is closed and a front LED is switched on.

OPERATION 3.1 Connection to the PA interface Calling the interface triggers the immediate answer and connection to the public address system. 3.2 Audio output volume selection NOTE: the volume is determined when the interface connects the incoming call and remains unchanged for the time of that call. The 4 volume levels can be configured through the embedded web interface. The interface determines the level of the audio output according to the following logic: if VOL1 input is enabled, select the volume 1, otherwise if VOL2 is enabled, select le volume 2, then check VOL3 and finally VOL4 and choose the related volume. If none of the volume selection inputs are enabled, select the default output level (also manageable through the web interface).

5 Page 5/16 4. INSTALLATION Installation procedure: 1) Check the list of supplies. 2) Make the connections. ATTENTION! This is an Ethernet voice over IP equipment. It must be connected according to VoIP network rules both at cabling level (minimum category 5) and switching level (no hub should be used for example). MANAGEMENT Management procedure: 1) SIP user creation 2) Initial network configuration 3) PA interface configuration NOTE: A label under the case mentions the MAC address of the IP public address interface. 5.1 SIP user creation If needed, create the SIP user associated with the PA interface in the PBX management following the standard SIP configuration procedure.

8 Page 8/ Configuration interface The IP public address interface configuration is done through a web interface available at the interface IP address. The Web interface is based on tabs. Each tab allows viewing or configuring one aspect of the PA interface. Just click on the tab title to view its content. One unique button called Save Config allows saving the configuration of all tabs. The Cancel button allows resetting the fields of all tabs at their initial value. NOTES: To allow any modification switch SW2 must be OFF. Any network or SIP configuration change releases the current call.

9 Page 9/ Initial network configuration 1. Switch on SW1 to select default network configuration: - IP address : Network mask : No gateway. 2. Connect the PA interface to the same LAN as the configuration PC 3. If needed, change the PC network configuration to have an IP address compatible with the interface default IP address, for example since the interface default IP address is With a web browser, connect to the interface IP address url: 5. Configure the interface network parameters in the Network tab according to the explanations of the following paragraph Network. 6. Save those parameters using the Save Config button. NOTE: the Web interface is automatically redirected to the interface new IP address. If this new IP address is not reachable from the management PC, as expected, the redirection will fail to refresh the web interface. 7. Switch off SW1.

Note: this option is reserved for advanced users and requires the interface to be connected on the subnet of the DHCP server when the configuration is saved. No RTP packet timeout: Current call release timeout when no RTP packet has ever been received (in seconds) No more RTP packet timeout: Current call release timeout when no longer receiving RTP packets (in seconds)

12 Page 12/ Audio Volume can be set in a scale from 0 to 100. Level 0 disables the audio output, level 10 provides a -15dB output, level 50 corresponds to 0dB and level 100 to +6dB. Loudspeaker default Level : PA interface default output volume (0-100) Loudspeaker Level 1 to 4: PA interface output volume when respective inputs VOL1 to VOL4 are enabled.

13 Page 13/16 6. MAINTENANCE 6.1 PA interface state supervision LEDs The interface state is detailed by 3 LEDs located on the front of the case. During normal operation, the CPU LED blinks slowly (1s /1s) and blinks rapidly when the interface is busy (in conversation). The network link state is shown by the following LEDs: the ETH LED shows incoming activity, the 10/100 LED shows link speed (10/100Mb/s) Web interface The Status tab shows the PA interface current status: SIP registration status: Registration to the SIP registrar status Public Address Interface state: PA interface status Communication LED: Conversation LED state Relay state: Relay state Volume selection input: Volume selection inputs state (Off : disabled, On : enabled) RTP packets statistics: Current conversation RTP packets statistics

15 Page 15/ Software update To update the PA interface software, a PC with a TFTP or FTP server installed is required. Update procedure: Configure the TFTP or FTP server to use and place the update file in the root directory of that server In the Software tab configure the protocol and the parameters of the server used: TFTP/FTP download: Protocol to use to load the update file TFTP Server : IP address of the TFTP server to use FTP Server : IP address of the FTP server to use Path : Name of the update file in the TFTP/FTP server User : FTP user to login to the FTP server Password : Password of that FTP user Loaded Version : Update version loaded in the temporary memory of the interface, or error message if loaded file is invalid Current Version : Software version loaded in permanent memory Download : Downloads the update file from the configured server and places it in temporary memory. At the end of the operation, the loaded version is displayed in the Loaded version field Upgrade : Updates the PA interface with the version loaded in temporary memory. Load the update version by clicking on the Download button.

16 Page 16/16 Check the version loaded (field Loaded Version ), and launch the upgrade by clicking on the Upgrade button Keep the PA interface powered until the operation is complete Once the update is complete, the PA interface reboots with the new version and the Web interface is refreshed.
