5 Avaya Setup The VE6023 works with Avaya IP phones on either Aura or IP Office systems, using Avaya's push feature to stream audio to IP desk phones. The VE6023 will be defined on the phone as a Trusted Push Server and a Subscribe Server, and the Push Capabilities of the phone will need to be set appropriately. These settings are defined in the 46xxsettings.txt file. Additionally, the VE6023 uses SNMP to monitor the Avaya server for updated information on the phone system. The VE6023 uses the multicast push feature built into Avaya IP phones. This feature is not supported in all phone firmware versions or for all Avaya phones. Generally, any recent phone model and recent firmware will have this capability. Consult Avaya s documentation for details of which phone models and firmware combinations are supported. Additionally, some phones that do not support multicast paging will support unicast paging. The VE6023 is capable of paging via unicast to those phones. This option should only be used when necessary, as multicast is more efficient on the network. Determining the URL of the VE6023 Push Server The IP address of the VE6023 is initially set using the VIP-102B IP Solutions Programming Tool. Once you have configured the IP address of your VE6023 you can determine the URL of the Avaya Push Server that runs on the VE6023. This URL is determined using this formula: + IP_of_VE :8989 You must use the IP address that you set when using the VIP-102B Tool. The port number (8989) is the default value on the VE6023. If you change this value, you must also adjust the URL used in the steps below. If, for example, you set the IP Address of the VE6023 to and used the default port number then the URL would be: Aura Push Setup The following instructions are based on using the Avaya Utility Server to provide configuration files to the telephones. 12 NEC Setup The VE6023 works with NEC DT830/DT830G series telephones with firmware version V or higher. The user will need access to the NEC Programming software to retrieve a list of telephone extensions. Using the NEC PCPro application, the telephone extensions can be exported to a text file to be imported into the VE6023. The CSV file must contain a header line, followed by telephone information on separate lines. An example format is: TN,IP_STN,RSC,SFC,LENS,TEC,KIND,IP Address,MAC Address,Station kind 1,1000,1,1,20,12,23, ,00-60-B9-BA-E7-CA,SIP Multi-Function Telephone 1,1001,1,1,21,12,23, ,00-60-B9-BA-E8-0D,SIP Multi-Function Telephone The key fields in the file are the IP_STN (extension number of the phone), IP Address (IP address of the phone) and MAC Address (MAC address of the phone). The example above includes multiple unused fields. These other fields are not used during the import process and are ignored. The telephones that will participate in paging must also be programmed with the appropriate information to authorize the VE6023 to send pages to the telephone. The phones may be configured using the onscreen menus of each telephone or through the web interface. The telephone Security menu has a subsection named Push Server. Under this menu there are three settings to be configured: Push Server Access This option enables/disables the ability of the telephone to be a paging endpoint. VE6023 Telephone Page Server - User Manual Page 12

13 Client IP Address This option provides entry fields for the server(s) that will be allowed to send pages to this telephone. The IP address of the VE6023 will be entered in this menu. Push Server Port This option provides an entry field for the port on which this telephone will listen for pages. The allowable values are 82 (default), or the range from 1024 to The value set here will also need to be set in the Setup of the VE6023. Valcom Setup with the VIP-102B IP Solutions Setup Tool The VE6023 extends a Valcom IP paging system to a phone system. As a result, additional pieces of Valcom equipment are required before a page can be received from a phone. At a minimum, a device that can source pages is needed. All the paging equipment must be programmed with Valcom's VIP- 102B IP Solutions Tool. Before attempting to configure the Valcom devices, please ensure the network is configured to support IP paging. The network should support broadcast and multicast traffic within local subnets and multicast traffic among all subnets where Valcom IP devices are connected. If the network cannot be configured to support these protocols, some features of the IP paging solution may not be available. Please contact Valcom Technical Support for details. After the endpoint devices are connected to an appropriately configured network, programming is accomplished through the use of the VIP-102B IP Solutions Setup Tool. This software tool should be installed on a Microsoft Windows based computer connected to the same network as the Valcom IP devices. The general procedure for programming Valcom IP devices involves the following steps: Install the devices on the network. Scan the network using the VIP-102B IP Solutions Tool to create an inventory of available devices. Program the devices with IP addresses and other network information appropriate to the physical network on which the devices are installed. Rescan the network to allow the IP Solutions Tool to retrieve complete device configuration information. Configure the individual device settings within the IP Solutions Tool for each device on the network with the specific settings necessary for the paging system being installed. Upload the new configuration to each device from the IP Solutions Tool. Restart the device to enable the new configuration settings. For more information, refer to the VIP-102B IP Solutions Setup Tool Reference Manual. VE6023 Telephone Page Server - User Manual Page 13

The Add window allows inputting a consecutive range of addresses by entering a starting address and ending address. If only a single address is being added, only fill in the Multicast Address field. Delete Use the Delete option to remove a previously entered address. Group Attachments The VE6023 listens to the same audio or text pages that is sent to Valcom IP speakers. The phone audio paging is slightly delayed due to the time required to contact the phones and initiate the paging function. Consequently, if there are IP speakers in the same listening area as phones, the audio may be played by the speakers before the phones. The Group Attachments function can solve this synchronization problem by coordinating the audio playback to both phones and speakers. The use this feature, create two Valcom paging groups, one that contains only phones and one that contains only Valcom IP speakers. The audio page is then sent to the group containing only phones. The other group (containing only speakers) is then attached to the first group. The VE6023 will coordinate the audio delivery to make sure the audio streams are playing simultaneously. Add Use the Add option to create a Group Attachment definition. The window provides two drop-down list boxes to choose the appropriate groups. TPS Group Code Choose the Valcom paging group that only has phones as members. This is the main group that will be used as the paging destination for this zone.
