1 rockbaby engineering Configure a MOXA NPort 51xx + AirPort Express for use with XTA 4Series processors Here are the steps to build a wireless connection between your Mac / PC / ios Device and your XTA 4 Series processor using a MOXA 51xx series Serial Device Server and a Apple Airport Express. What you will need: - MOXA - NPort 51xx (5110 just RS232 / 5130 just RS485 / 5150 both) - Cable from the MOXA to the 4Series processor (see page 16) - Apple Airport (other Routers can be configured in a similar way) - Mac to configure (same way if you do this from Windows) - iphone, ipod touch or ipad running DP4Remote - At least one XTA 4Series processor Page of 1 18

2 1. Configure the Airport Express - Reset the Airport Express (if not new anyway) to get it to the factory defaults. - Power up the Airport Express. - Choose AirPort Express at New AirPort Base Station. Page 2 of 18

3 - Enter a name for your wireless network. - Enter a name for your base station. - Enter a password for your base station - Verify the password. - Click on Next. Page of 3 18

4 - Click on Next as ther is no ethernet cable to connect jet. Page 4 of 18

6 rockbaby engineering - Your new configured Base Station will appear after a minute. - Click on it and choose Edit to make some more configurations. Page 6 of 18

7 - Choose the Internet tab. - Switch Connect using to Static. - Set the IPv4 Adress to Set the Subnet Mask to Set the Router Address to (this will be our MOXA later). - Set the DNS Servers to (also the MOXA). Page 7 of 18

8 - Choose the Network tab. - Set the Router Mode to DHCP Only. - Set the DHCP Range to to Click on update (the AirPort Express will restart). - Your configuration is complete. Page 8 of 18

9 2. Setting up the Mac to access the MOXA 51xx - Enter the Mac s System Preferences (click on the Apple logo on the left hand side of the menu-bar and choose System Preferences ). - Choose Network. - Choose Ethernet (here USB Ethernet as on a MacBook Air). - Click on Advanced. Page 9 of 18

10 - Choose the TCP/IP tab. - Set Configure IPv4 to Manually. - Set IPv4 Address to Set Subnet Mask to Leave the Router blank. - Set Configure IPv6 on Automatically. - Click on OK. Page 10 of 18

12 2. Setting up the MOXA 51xx - Reset the MOXA 51xx (if not new anyway) to get it to the factory defaults. - Connect the MOXA 51xx with a ethernet cable to your Mac. - Open Safari. - Enter the address (the MOXA). - You will be prompted with the MOXA web console. Page 12 of 18

13 - Click on Operation Settings / Port 1. - Set Operation Mode to TCP Server Mode. - Set TCP alive check time to 7. - Set Inactivity time to 0. - Set Max connection to 1. - Set Ignore jammed IP & Allow driver control to No. - Set Packing length to 0. - Set Delimiter 1 & Delimiter 2 to 0. - Set Delimiter process to Do Nothing. - Set Force transmit to 0. - Set Local TCP port to Set Connand port to Click on Submit. 14 - Click on Serial Settings / Port 1. - Set Port alias to Set Baud rate to (38400 if you also use older DP226 & DP224). - Set Data bits to 8. - Set Stop bits to 1. - Set Parity to None. - Set Flow control to None. - Set FIFO to Enable. - Click on submit. Page 14 of 18

15 rockbaby engineering - Click on Network Settings. - Set IP address to Set Netmask to Leave Gateway, DNS server 1 and DNS server 2 blank. - Set SNMP to Enable. - Set Community name to public. - Leave Contact and Location blank. - Leave Auto report to IP blank. - Set Auto report to UDP port to Set Auto report period to Click on submit. - The MOXA will restart... Connecting things - Now connect the MOXA NPort with your AirPort Express. rockbaby engineering - Connect the MOXA to your 4Series controller with the right cable (see below). - The LED on the AirPort should change from orange blinking to green. - Connect with your ios device / Mac / PC to your Airport. - You should receive a IP address via DHCP. - Open Safari & type in If the MOXA web console appears everything worked out. IF WORKING WITH RS232 (5110 or 5150 in RS232 mode) YOU LL NEED A NOT CROSSED SERIAL EXTENSION CABLE. IF WORKING WITH RS485 (5130 or 5150 in RS485 mode) YOU LL NEED A ADAPTOR CONNECTED AS SHOWN BELOW. Setting the properties in DP4Remote - Tap on the action symbol in the navigation bar and select Settings. - Set IP to Set Port to Tap on Done to close the window. - Tap on offline remote: 8002 to connect. - A menu should appear which offers you to Send settings to device, Receive from network or Just connect. - Choose whatever you like and have fun.
