Student Actions About ClassHub ClassHub is a classroom device management application that allows teachers to monitor student screens, push content and messages to students, lock student devices and initiate screen sharing. This guide gives teachers an overview of the components of ClassHub Teacher and the ClassHub Student Companion App.
ClassHub Teacher To Log In Open ClassHub Teacher. Click Log in with Clever. Enter your username and password and click Log in. The Class Manager opens. My Class Settings To Log Out To log out, click the settings gear in the top right corner of the Class Manager. Then, click the Logout button located at the bottom left corner of the My Class Settings page. My Class Settings My Class Settings is accessed by clicking the settings gear in the top right corner next to the teacher s name. Here, teachers can personalize settings for each class. Click Save to apply changes and exit the My Class Settings window. Class Nickname A class nickname replaces the assigned class name in the Class List and appears only to you. Device Lock Teachers can customize the alert message that appears on all student devices when locked. The default message is A message from the teacher. Note: Class Nickname is only for the teacher s reference. This does not make any changes to the class name in the admin Settings Portal or the school s student information system (SIS). 1
Class List The Class List contains a teacher s classes as they appear in the school s SIS. The Class List is divided into two sections: Current Class and My Classes. Current Class displays the class that is presently active. A green indicator light appears next to the active class name. My Classes are all of the classes assigned to the teacher as listed in the SIS. Starting a Class To start a class, select the appropriate class from the Class List dropdown on the left and click Start Class. Note: To avoid accidentally pulling students from another active class, classes should not be started before students arrive. Stopping a Class To stop a class, click Stop Class. All students will be disconnected from the current class. Note: If you forget to stop class and a student moves to another teacher using ClassHub, the student will automatically be pulled into the correct class when the next teacher starts ClassHub. Classes with More than One Teacher If a class has more than one teacher, ClassHub assigns roles to each teacher within the class. Once the first teacher starts class, additional teachers will have the option to join. To join an active class, select it from the Class List and click Join Class. Note: Screen Peek functionality is only available to the teacher who starts a class. Teachers who join a currently active class are able to perform all actions but will not see screen peeks. For more on Screen Peek, see Page 3. For more on actions, see Page 6. 2
Leaving a Class If more than one teacher joins an active class, the Leave Class option appears. By clicking Leave Class, teachers can disconnect and leave without stopping the entire class session. Using Views and Screen Peek Views are specific ways of looking at students inside ClassHub. The Class Manager contains several different views that can be adjusted according to the teacher s preference. Adjust views by dragging the corners of the Class Manager to resize the window. Screen Peek Screen Peek allows teachers to see all student device screens in real time. It refreshes every few seconds to show what students are actively working on. This feature can be toggled on and off by clicking the button in the top right corner of the Class Manager. Screen Peek Window To view a large screen peek of an individual student device, click on a student desk. Actions in a Screen Peek Window are student-level, applying only to the currently viewed student. Use the white arrows on the sides of the Screen Peek Window to navigate to other student screens. 3
Class View Class View is ClassHub s default view and displays both the student list and student desks. This is ClassHub s largest view and can be displayed fullscreen. Resize student desks by adjusting the student desk slider. The slider is located near the class name at the top of the Class Manager window. The student list appears to the left of the student desks. To hide the student list, click the ClassHub icon in the top left corner of the Class Manager. To show the list, simply click the icon again. Desk View Desk View shows rows of student desks in a medium-sized display. Resize the display by clicking and dragging the window corners. You can also resize student desks by adjusting the slider. When the Class Manager is in Desk View or Student List View, class-level actions can be accessed by clicking the hamburger icon in the top right corner. 4
Student List View Student List View displays students in list form. This view is displayed in a small window. Student List View can be helpful if you want to display other content on your desktop while still accessing ClassHub. Screen Peek and student-level actions can be accessed by clicking on a name in the student list. 5
Actions Actions allow teachers to manage student devices and control content. Actions can be applied to an entire class or to individual students. Class-level actions are found on the toolbar at the top of the Class Manager. Student-level actions are found by clicking an individual student desk. When an action is successfully completed, a notification appears at the bottom of the Class Manager window. Lock Devices Teachers can lock student devices. With Lock Devices, a student s device screen is completely disabled and displays a lock icon and message. Students are unable to use any part of their device until the device is unlocked by the teacher or class ends. Teachers can customize the default message displayed on the lock screen in the My Class Settings menu (see Page 1). A lock icon will appear next to student names in the Class Manager to indicate the student s device is locked. 6
Web Pages Teachers can push webpages to student devices. Click Web Pages, enter the URL in the dialogue box and press enter or click the Open Web Page button. The webpage will open on all student devices. Push webpages and lock student devices into them at the same time by selecting Lock Browser. This will expand the browser full-screen and prevent students from opening new tabs, minimizing or closing windows. Favorites Save webpages, alert messages and apps as favorites for quick access. Just select Add to Favorites in the Web Pages, Send Alerts or Lock Apps windows before completing an action. Favorites can also be added from the Recent History tab by selecting the heart icon next to the item you wish to save. Click Save to apply the changes or X to cancel and exit the window. Teachers can give favorite webpages a custom title. To change the title, hover over the website in the Favorites tab, click the edit icon and type in a new name. To remove items from the Favorites tab, click the heart icon in the top right corner. Recent History Click Recent History to view your most recently accessed webpages, alerts or apps. Recent History stores the last 10 items accessed. Note: Favorites and Recent History are class-specific and only apply to the individual classes you customize. 7
Send Alerts Send Alerts allows the teacher to send a quick, non-disruptive alert message to a student or class. To send an alert, click Send Alerts, type a message in the dialogue box and click Send Alert. The alert will then pop up in a small dialogue box on student devices. You can also lock all devices at the same time you send an alert in one step. In the Send Alerts window, enter your message and select Lock Devices with Alert. All student devices will lock and display your custom message. Lock Apps Lock Apps allows teachers to lock a student or class into a specific application. Click Lock Apps and type the name of the application in the search bar. Select the application and click Lock App. The application expands full-screen and prevents students from accessing other apps or windows until the app is unlocked by the teacher or class ends. For mixed device environments, you can filter your application search by operating system. Just select Chrome, ios, macos or Windows above the search bar. 8
Applications Teachers can add or remove apps from student devices. Click Applications, type the name of the application in the search bar, then click Install Application. The list of available apps is populated from applications that already exist on connected school devices. Applications that have been installed using ClassHub can also be removed. In the Installed Applications tab, click the trash icon in the top right corner of the application to remove it from student devices. Push Screen Note: Not available for Windows devices. Push Screen allows teachers to share their screen to student devices. Teachers can share their entire screen or only a specific window or application. To share the teacher s entire screen with the class, click Push Screen and select the name of your display from the Select a display or app dropdown menu. Then click Push to Students. The teacher s screen will appear on all student devices in a new window. To share only a specific window or application with the class, select it from the dropdown menu. Then click Push to Students. To lock students into the screen push, select Lock to Students before clicking Push to Students. This will expand the pushed window full-screen and prevent students from opening, minimizing or closing windows on their devices. 9
Mirroring Mirroring allows students to share their device screens to the front of the room. Mirroring can be teacher or student initiated. To share a student screen, click on the student s desk and click Start Mirroring. The student s screen will then appear on the teacher s device. Students can also initiate screen mirroring. When a student asks to mirror their screen, the Prompt to Approve dialogue box appears on the teacher s device. From here, the teacher can choose from three options: Allow and show the device screen Allow and hide the device screen Disconnect the student device screen These can be applied to every connected device in the class session by selecting the options at the bottom of the dialogue box. Checking the Remember this device? box allows the student device to connect for the remainder of the class session without teacher approval. 10
Mirroring Actions The Mirroring action button opens a window in the Class Manager that allows the teacher to see all connected mirroring devices. Once a device has started mirroring, the icon turns green, alerting the teacher that a student is mirroring or has requested to mirror. From this window, teachers can utilize mirroring actions such as hide, emphasize, record or disconnect device. ClassHub Student Student Login Student login varies by device type and setup. Generally, in one-to-one environments, students do not have to log in to ClassHub or will only have to log in once. In shared device environments, students should power on and log in to their devices. Then the ClassHub/Clever login screen will automatically appear and prompt students to enter their username and password. Note: For one-to-one and shared environments, students will be automatically logged in to ClassHub if they are a) using Chromebooks and b) have logged in to their Chromebooks with a ClassHub-associated account. 11
When students log in and are connected to an active class, the online indicator next to each student s name in the Class Manager will be green. When students are not connected, this indicator is red. Student Actions Students can find class information and actions by clicking the ClassHub icon on their device. Students will know they are successfully connected when they open the ClassHub Student Companion App and see the correct teacher and class name. Screen Mirroring (Chromebook & Windows) Mirror My Screen allows students to share their device screen to the teacher s computer. By default, when students share their screen, the teacher receives a Prompt to Approve, which allows for teacher approval before student screens are displayed. Teachers can also request for students to share their screens using the Mirroring option (see Mirroring on Page 10). 12
Screen Mirroring (ipad) To mirror an ipad, the student should first open Control Center. To open Control Center, swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen. Students using ipads with ios 12 or later should swipe down from the top right corner of the screen. Then tap the Screen Mirroring button. The student should then tap the correct teacher and class from the list of available devices to begin mirroring. Teacher s Screen (Chromebook, Windows, macos) When the teacher has activated Screen Push, Teacher s Screen allows students to open a new window to see the teacher s screen or another mirrored display on the teacher s screen. Windows Chromebook macos 13
