7 IUM Version 7.0 Release Notes HP Internet Usage Manager Software version 7.0 is a new release of the industry leading real-time charging and convergent mediation solution that supports a wide variety of billing and charging services on current and next-generation networks, both in batch processing and in real time. IUM handles data for convergent mediation, real-time charging as well as IMS-based voice and data services across wireline, wireless, cable and broadband networks. As the critical link between your service infrastructure and your business systems, IUM helps you create and deliver value-added services, implement usage- and content-based billing, and manage capacity based on customer usage patterns. The HP IUM Charging Manager software is the industry-leading solution for capture and correlation of event usage data and all online and offline service charging models. The Charging Manager provides the foundation for charging of events in real time. It authorizes the events interacting with rating and balance management systems and controls network elements to create and deliver real-time usage data to downstream business support systems and operations support systems (BSS/OSS). The Charging Manager provides real-time session and transaction management, charging control and quota management, all supported by powerful business rules that enable you to rapidly implement low-latency, highly reliable services. The IUM Charging Manager is fully compliant with the 3GPP standards for IMS online and offline charging. New Features in this Version Extended Database Support IUM has previously included Solid as the embedded database, but in IUM 7.0 MySQL is now the embedded database. To deliver enhanced performance and stability, HP offers the optional MySQL database product extension, which you can use as your default database in 7.0. This product extension is installed and activated alongside IUM. To help you convert your data from Solid to MySQL, IUM includes the IUM MySQL Migration Toolkit, which you can use to convert your Solid database to MySQL before installing IUM 7.0. During activation of IUM 7.0, you will be able to provide IUM with your converted data to complete the migration process. The database migration process itself is non-destructive to the source. The source data in Solid is not touched or changed during migration. IUM also allows you to use your own external Oracle or MySQL database. If you do not use the MySQL product extension and instead choose to use your own database, you are responsible for supporting and maintaining that database. During activation, you will be able to indicate your database settings to the IUM activator so that IUM can use your chosen database. IUM only supports migrating an IUM 6.0 Solid deployment to MySQL in version 7.0. If you want to migrate an older IUM deployment, you must first upgrade to version 6.0, then 7.0. New users of IUM 7.0 (who are not migrating from a previous IUM version) also have the option of using the MySQL product extension or their own external database (whether MySQL or Oracle). See the IUM Installation Guide for complete details on installing and activating IUM, as well as instructions on migrating your Solid database to MySQL with the IUM MySQL Migration Toolkit. Oracle Java Development Kit (JDK) 1.6 Support IUM 7.0 now supports Oracle JDK version 1.6, and removes support for JDK 1.5. You must have version 1.6 before installing IUM 7.0. JDK 1.6 is also required by the IUM MySQL Migration Toolkit. Realtime JVM Bundle IUM includes a new realtime JVM option (JRockit) that is bundled with the IUM installer. Currently, this installation option is not supported on HP-UX, but is supported on all other IUM platforms. Those who are upgrading from a previous version of IUM should note that JVM option Internet Usage Manager 7.0 7

8 IUM Version 7.0 Release Notes Software and Hardware Requirements settings, such as heap size and/or those in the SIUJava.ini file, can differ if you are using the bundled realtime JVM. Moreover, when upgrading from the JDK to the bundled JVM, any customizations will not be migrated. Accordingly, you should make a record of your custom, JDK-based settings so you can reapply your settings that correspond to the new JVM. For more information on JRockit parameters and migration from the Oracle JDK to IUM s bundled realtime JVM, see Extended Installation and Activator Capabilities The IUM installer and activator have been extended and enhanced, and to support enablement of the MySQL and JRockit offerings. Two separate installers are available, based on your Java preference. As in previous versions of IUM, you can use the typical IUM installer that assumes you have the Oracle JDK 1.6 installed. Otherwise, for customers that have purchased the Oracle JRockit option, IUM 7.0 provides a separate installer with the bundled JRockit JVM. This allows you to use IUM without having to install a separate JVM beforehand. During installation, you have the added flexibility of selecting the bundled JRockit JVM. Or, if you prefer, you can point the installer to another JVM to be used with IUM. In addition to the graphical activator, the new activate command-line tool allows you to launch the activator in graphical mode any time after installation. It also supports silent installation with new unattended install options, and a new text-only console mode (both for installation and activation). See the IUM Command Reference for more information on the activate command, as well as the IUM Installation Guide for instructions on installing IUM in graphical, silent, or console modes. The IUM license file is also now required when both installing and activating, and the license must be installed on each host in the deployment, not just for the configuration server host as previously. OS Platform Changes IUM now supports Windows Server 2008, but no longer supports Windows Server 2003, nor RedHat Linux 4. See the IUM Installation Guide and for more information on platforms and installation requirements. Expanded Command Line Capabilities The IUM Command Console is part of a new, extended command-line framework in IUM for executing commands in an IUM-specific command line shell. The console includes a variety of features, such as command history, command suggestion and autocomplete, command help, and prompting of required arguments. In addition, it allows you to execute your own custom script files, and provides access to IUM services. You can also chain multiple commands together, or execute batches of files that contain a list of console commands. Note that commands which are executed through the IUM Command Console are specific to the console environment only. By contrast, the installation and activation consoles, in addition to IUM commands described in the IUM Command Reference, are of a different type and cannot be run inside the new IUM console shell. The disk space and memory required depend on the number and configuration of IUM components, the volume of data processed and stored, and whether security is enabled. Download IUM Documentation To download the archive of the latest IUM manuals: Step 1. Go to the IUM Customer Support web site: Step 2. When prompted, enter the user name and password listed under Technical Support on page 9. Step 3. Step 4. Step 5. At the customer support site, navigate to the Manuals page. Locate your version and platform of IUM and download the Complete manual set file. Save the downloaded file to a temporary directory on your system. Unpack the Documentation Archive To unpack the documentation archive on Windows: Step 1. Step 2. Step 3. Step 4. Step 5. Step 6. Step 7. Step 8. Open the downloaded file in WinZip. Click Extract. The Extract dialog appears. In the Extract To field, specify the <IUMHOME> directory where you installed IUM files, for example, C:\SIU. Select the Overwrite existing files option. Select the Use folder names option. Click Extract. Verify that the archive files were extracted to <IUMHOME>\docs\manuals, for example C:\SIU\docs\manuals. Exit WinZip. To unpack the documentation archive on UNIX: Step 1. Step 2. Step 3. Step 4. Step 5. Log in to the system as root. Move the archive file to the home of your IUM installation, for example to /opt/siu/<filename>. Execute a command like one of the following: unzip <filename> jar xvf <filename> Verify that the archive files were extracted, for example to /opt/siu/docs/manuals/.
