1 Three-Tier Services Pattern - VMware Sample Overview Three-Tier Services Pattern - VMware sample blueprint is a workin sample blueprint of provisionin a three-tier services includin MYSQL database, ActiveMQ server, JBOSS application server cluster, and load balancer. Prerequisites 1. vra 7.0 fully installed 2. Linux Redhat/CentOS 7.0 or above as a vra 7.0 blueprint template 3. VMware CloudClient is installed locally or externally. It will be used to import the blueprint to your vra 7.0 Blueprint Snapshot

2 Input Properties for Software Components The blueprint has the followin properties defined on each software components. They are provided to make the blueprint more useful for real life situations and as an example for how to confiure and use properties in blueprints.

3 All required properties need to have a value for provisionin to be successful. Apache_LB (Apache Load Balancer) Property Name Description Type Bindin Defa APPSRV_ROUTES Application server route confiuration to apply sticky sessions Array _res AUTOGEN_STICKY_COOKIE Set to YES when load balancin non-java app servers NO HTTP_NODE_IPS Array of ips to proxy. Set to ["ne"] to disable proxy. Array _res HTTP_NODE_PORT Apache HTTP server port. When usin Apache as a load balancer for an application server or a cluster of them, this port must bind to the relevant ports in those application server nodes. Array _res HTTP_PORT HTTP port number to serve static content. Leave blank to disable this feature. 80 HTTP_PROXY_PORT HTTP proxy port number 8081 JAVA_HOME The directory in which JRE 1.7 is installed /opt/ TOMCAT_CONTEXT Optional property of the WAR context to proxy to usin ajp on Tomcat USE_AJP Enable this when confiurin proxy to Tomcat instance that is usin AJP. Set to YES or NO. NO JBOSS_71_Server (JBOSS 7.1 Server) tes about the properties: 1. JAVA_DOWNLOAD_URL: a. By default it points to the one of Oracle s public repositories. Feel free set up your own repository in-house and put jre-7u80-linuxx64.tar.z there. b. If you install JBOSS server (default), JRE version 7 is required.

4 c. If you have JRE 7 pre-installed and JAVA_HOME is set on the template, this property value will be inored in the action script, or you can leave it empty. 2. JAVA_INSTALL_PATH: If you have JRE 7 pre-installed and JAVA_HOME is set on the template, this property value will be inored in the action script, or you can leave it empty. 3. INSTALLATION_URL: it is URL for installation of JBOSS. Feel free set up your own repository in-house and put jboss-as final/jboss-as Final.zip. 4. MANAGEMENT_PASSWORD: a. This property is encrypted in the blueprint. If you don t customize it when importin the blueprint, its value is password by default. b. Due to the limitation of Software Component script, the password cannot contains "$" for now. Feel free set up your own repository in-house and put mysqlcommunity-release-el7-5.noarch.rpm there. 2. DB_ROOT_PASSWORD: a. This property is encrypted in the blueprint. If you don t customize it when importin the blueprint, its value is password by default. b. Due to the limitation of Software Component script, the password cannot contains "$" for now. Go to your VMware CloudClient installation directory 2. Run CloudClient under the /bin directory. $>./bin/cloudclient.sh 3. If prompted, accept the license areement. 4. Usin VMware CloudClient, lo in to the vrealize Automation Appliance as a user with software architect and infrastructure architect privilees.

9 CloudClient>vra loin userpass --user --tenant <TenantName> --server 5. When prompted, enter your loin password. 6. Validate that the Three-TierServciesPattern.zip file content is available. vra content import --path /<Path>/ Three-TierServciesPattern.zip --dry-run true --resolution SKIP/OVERWRITE 7. Import the Three-Tier Services Pattern - VMware Sample. vra content import --path /<Path>/ Three-TierServciesPattern.zip -- resolution SKIP/OVERWRITE After finishin the above, you can loin to vra UI as an infrastructure architect, and then o to Desin tab, from the blueprint list, click Three-Tier Services Pattern VMware Sample blueprint, and then you will see the blueprint details. And also all the required Software Component should be available on the Software Component list. Next, confiure all the VM machines required from the blueprint by followin the vra documentation Machine s Build Information, Machine Resources, Storae, Network, Security, and etc. Please note that this step is REQUIRED to confiure the VM machines to be provisioned in your env. And then save the blueprint, publish it. To put the blueprint into the Catalo, confiure it from Administration tab -> Catalo Manaement, and follow the vra documentation After the blueprint is available in the catalo, you can start to submit the request to deploy the blueprint. To provide the estimate deployment time, from the inhouse lab with liht workload on the vra and provisionin with Linked Clone Action type, the whole deployment takes about 30 min.
