9 Open Walkinside Model Open local model A "Virtual Reality Project" in Walkinside contains all the files and subdirectories with all the data and information required to visualize a VR model. A VR project contains the geometry exported from the original CAD format and information used to improve the project and accessibility review. Example: Redlines Perspectives Groups URLs Optional settings Note You can also open zipped project files (*.vrz) with Walkinside. This file type is used to upload the model to the Walkinside server for publication of the data. Procedure 1. Select the item "File > Open" in the Walkinside Viewer menu. 2. Open the.vrp file of the main project. Alternatively: Double-click the.vrp file. 3.2 Open online model Use the browser to access the Walkinside server and the page with the available models. 12 Navigating 4.1 Moving the camera Procedure 1. Move the camera with the arrow keys as shown in the figure below. 2. To rotate the camera, keep the left mouse button held down and move the mouse. You can use the combination of arrow key and mouse movement to move the camera freely in any direction. Example: By pressing the <Arrow down> key and moving the mouse down, the camera is moved up toward the sky and the location is kept in the viewing area. 12 Getting Started, 05/2016 V 10.2, A5E AA

13 Navigating 4.1 Moving the camera 3. To move the camera up vertically, press the <Page up> or <Page down> key. You can use the <Page up> and <Page down> keys together with the mouse and/or the arrow keys. 4. To turn the creeping animation on or off with activated gravity option, press the <Page up> key. The sketches below shows the different movement options: Action <Arrow up> key Sketch <Arrow down> key <Page up>/<page down> Move mouse pointer to left or right Move mouse pointer up or down 5. For faster navigation in the model, hold down the <Shift> key. 6. For slower navigation, hold down the <Ctrl> key. Compass Use the compass for an even more accurate camera view. 14 Navigating 4.3 Working with Viewpoints 4.2 Operating gravity options, collision control and third-person mode Symbol in the toolbar Keyboard shortcut Function <C> Activates and deactivates collision detection between the avatar and the 3D elements in the model. When you deactivate collision detection, you are also deactivating the gravity option. <G> Activates and deactivates the gravity option. <Shift> When the function is activated, gravity is acting on the avatar. In this mode you use the arrow keys and the mouse to move the avatar through the model. The avatar only moves up when you climb stairs. By holding down the <Shift> key, the camera moves at twice the speed. <Ctrl> By holding down the <Ctrl> key, the camera moves at half the speed. <P> Toggles the camera between first-person mode and third-person mode. <Home> In first-person mode, you see the 3D world from the perspective of the avatar. In third-person mode, the camera follows the avatar. Resets the camera to its starting position. See also chapter Working with Viewpoints (Page 14). 4.3 Working with Viewpoints "Viewpoints" are saved camera positions within a 3D model. 15 Navigating 4.3 Working with Viewpoints Procedure 1. To open the "Viewpoints" window, select the "View > Viewpoints" entry in the menu. Available perspectives are displayed with name and gallery image. 2. To select a Viewpoint, double-click one of the perspectives. 3. To create a Viewpoint, click the "+" symbol in the toolbar of the "Viewpoints" window. 4. To change the starting position, navigate to the required perspective in the model. 5. 16 Navigating 4.4 Navigating in the database of a project 4.4 Navigating in the database of a project When converting CAD models to a virtual model, the converter routine also processes the CAD hierarchy data. The CAD hierarchy is also referred to as element structure plan. You can check internal database information for Microstation (MSTags), PDS, SP3D and PDMS models in Walkinside. This database is shown in a dockable window that allows users to access the CAD hierarchy window and the related database information at the same time. Various options are available for finding elements and element information. Note The FRT (Functional Reference Tree) has the same functionality as the CAD hierarchy, but the tags are arranged in an operative structure. Finding elements using the CAD Hierarchy 1. Open the CAD hierarchy by clicking the "View > CAD Hierarchy" entry in the menu. 2. To open a database, select one of the following entries in the menu: "Database > PDMS" "Database > PDS" 16 Getting Started, 05/2016 V 10.2, A5E AA

17 Navigating 4.4 Navigating in the database of a project 3. To focus and zoom in on selected objects, double-click an element in the structure view. The 3D element is highlighted during focusing and the camera is smoothly adjusted to view the element in the center of the screen. The corresponding attributes are displayed when the data attribute window is open. Tip: This function lets you jump to a model that is located far away from the starting point. 4. You can use the search function to search for a specific attribute in the toolbar of the "Database" window. Finding elements using the search function You can use the search function to search for a specific attribute in the toolbar of the "Database" window. 1. Select the name of the attribute from the list. 2. Enter the value or the substring of the required value in the text field. 3. Click "Search". 4. You can use the search function to search for a specific attribute in the toolbar of the "Database" window. 5. 18 Navigating 4.5 Isolating 3D elements Finding elements using the 3D model 1. Double-click an element in the 3D model. 2. Alternatively: Use the "Select" entry in the context menu of a 3D element. The element is selected in the CAD hierarchy. 4.5 Isolating 3D elements You can isolate 3D elements. This means other 3D elements are hidden and only the isolated element remains visible. This function is also available in the CAD hierarchy and with FRT elements (Functional Reference Tree). If the CAD hierarchy or the FRT elements are organized by system, subsystem, wires and equipment, you can quickly visualize a part of the unit. 18 Getting Started, 05/2016 V 10.2, A5E AA

21 Checking projects Working with redlining You use the Relining function to label 3D elements with a text that is shown as soon as the camera approaches the element. The Redline texts are displayed as long as the "Redlining" window is open. A text of unlimited length can be attached to each Redline. Procedure 1. Select the "View > Redlining" entry in the menu. 2. The "Redlining" window is displayed. 3. Click "Add redline group". 4. A Redlining group is created. 5. To create a Redlining text in the Redlining group, right-click a 3D element in the model. 22 Checking projects 5.1 Working with redlining 6. Select the Redlining > Add entry in the context menu. The default name of the Redline is "New tag". 7. Optionally: Rename the Redline. The name of the Redline is shown at the 3D element. 8. The deactivate the Redline, clear the mark in the associated check box. 9. To switch to the position that was active when you created the Redline, double-click the Redline. 10.Click "Description" to add notes or URL links to a Redline. 11.A text field is displayed in the "Redlining" window in which you can enter the text. 23 Checking projects 5.2 Measuring Deleting Redlines 1. To hide individual Redline text, right-click the Redline text in the 3D model. 2. Select the entry "Redlining > Remove". 3. To permanently delete a Redline, select it in the "Redlining" window. 4. Click "Delete". 5.2 Measuring There are three different ways of measuring: Distance between two points See also chapter Distance between two points (Page 24). Angle between three points See also chapter Measuring angle between points (Page 24). Center-to-center distance (= between center axes of pipes) See also chapter Measuring center-to-center distance (Page 25). Activate the corresponding tool to make the measurements. 24 Checking projects 5.2 Measuring Distance between two points You can measure the distance between two points in the model. All measurements take place in the units set for the scene. You can make the measurement while navigating in the model. Procedure 1. Activate the "Point to point measurement" tool in the toolbar. 2. To select the first measuring point, double-click a location in the model. The location is marked with a red dot. 3. To select the second measuring point, proceed as described. Result A red line between the selected locations shows the measured distance. The distance is displayed in the status bar. The delta measured values are also displayed to make linear measurements easier Measuring angle between points You can measure the angle between three points in the 3D model. Procedure 1. Activate the "Angular point to point measurement" tool in the toolbar. 2. To select the first measuring point, double-click a location in the model. The location is marked with a red dot. 3. To select the apex of the angle, double-click a location in the model. The location is marked with a red dot. 4. To select the third measuring point, double-click a location in the model. The location is marked with a red dot. Result Two red lines between the selected locations show the virtual path between the points. 25 Checking projects 5.3 Displaying cross section of equipment or subunits Measuring center-to-center distance You can measure the distance between two different pipes. Procedure 1. Activate the "Axis to axis measurement" tool in the toolbar. 2. To select the first axis, double-click a pipe. The pipe is highlighted in blue. 3. To select the second axis, double-click a different pipe. The pipe is highlighted in blue. Result A red line between the selected pipes shows the distance between the two points that are located closest to one another. The exact distance is displayed in the status bar. 5.3 Displaying cross section of equipment or subunits You use the Clipping toolbar to view the cross section of equipment or subunits. The Clipping toolbar is part of the main toolbar of the Walkinside Viewer. You specify the distance of the next clipping level of the camera with the clipping value. Requirement You have activated Clipping in the settings. Procedure Change the clipping value manually or with the help of the slider. 26 Checking projects 5.4 Adjusting the avatar size 5.4 Adjusting the avatar size You use the avatar to check if there is sufficient freedom of movement in the 3D engineering of a unit. In the "Overall" category, select the entry "User". 5.5 Creating screenshots Walkinside lets you create a screenshot of the 3D display using the menu. Procedure 1. Select the "Edit > Take Screenshot" entry in the menu. The "Save Screenshot" window opens. 2. Enter the creation location, the file name and the file format. 3. Confirm your entries. 29 System integration 6 You can link 3D elements to external systems if these systems have a function for opening data by means of a URL. Example: Document management systems This way, the Walkinside Viewer can be set up as 3D portal for bidirectional access to engineering information or operative information. If you want to open URLs in an external browser and not in the Walkinside browser, activate the option "Use external default browser" in the "General" category under settings Working with dynamic URLs With the manager for dynamic URLs, you can link objects with multiple URLs which use one of the following values as parameter in the http query: Database attribute Nodes of the CAD hierarchy FRT nodes These URLs are in effect for all elements in the VR file. This means a URL is linked with all elements as soon as you have created it. Procedure You create a dynamic URL in the same way as you create a static URL. See also chapter Working with static URLs (Page 31). However, the URL has a parameter defined as follows: $( VRCadHierarchyElem ): Is replaced by the CAD hierarchy name of the element. $( VRFRT ): Is replaced by the FRT name of the element. $( ein Attributname ): Is replaced by the value of the attribute connected with the element. Example In this example, the following Internet page is to be searched for the string "T-105": Example of dynamic URL: The dynamic URL is replaced in the browser as follows: Working with the HTTP server The Walkinside HTTP server allows users to link third-party applications to Walkinside objects using http queries. 34 System integration 6.2 Working with the HTTP server Example: From Office documents From external databases which allow URL links From the actual web browser From other user interfaces that support URL links Requirement You have activated the toolbar for the Walkinside HTTP server in the "Toolbars > Overall" category. Procedure 1. In the toolbar, select the port that is to be used. It is very important to select an appropriate port, otherwise trouble may occur with the security policy. In case of doubt, consult the network administrator. 2. To start the Walkinside HTTP server, click "Launch HTTP server". Once the Walkinside HTTP Server is running, it can handle events triggered by incoming external links. 3. You have three options that you can use when accessing Walkinside through the Walkinside HTTP server: See also chapter Working with dynamic URLs (Page 33). " Name=Attribute_Name&Attribute=Attribute_Value" When you use this URL, the external application directly establishes the connection to the internal engineering database of the model. When the search was successful, the camera positions itself in front of the requested 3D object. " When you use this URL, the external application is directly connected with the CAD hierarchy of the model. When the search was successful, the element you are looking for is selected in the CAD hierarchy. When the CAD hierarchy is open and visible in Walkinside, use the "Jump to" option to jump to or focus on the graphical object and select the object in the CAD hierarchy. " When you use this URL, the external application is directly connected with the FRT of the object. When the search was successful, the element you are looking for is selected in the FRT.
