2 PLATFORMS Our curse sites wrk n Windws, Macintsh, and Unix platfrms. AVC curses can be accessed n ipad thrugh Puffin brwser. Yu can get Puffin Brwser frm the Apple Stre. CONNECTION SPEED Althugh higher-speed cnnectins are preferable, slwer cnnectins shuld allw users t view mst materials n the sites; hwever, dwnlading materials will take a lnger perid f time. SUPPORTED BROWSERS AVC CurseWare has tested the curse sites with the fllwing brwsers: Internet Explrer versin 8.0 and later Firefx 19.0 and later Safari 5.0 and later Ggle Chrme 24.0 and later Due t rapid develpment in the pen surce wrld, there may be ther Open Surce sftware packages that will wrk as well as f any f thse suggested abve. We are unable t ffer technical supprt fr any f the suggested sftware. We wuld be thankful in case yu let us knw abut any cmplicatins r bugs yu meet during yur wrk. ARMENIAN LANGUAGE SUPPORT Supplemental language supprt is needed in rder t display the Armenian characters. Windws XP Windws Vista Windws 7 Windws 8 MAC OS ios(ipad) Windws XP Please perfrm the fllwing steps t dwnlad and install the Armenian characters: Dwnlad the fnts. After dwnlading the Armenian_fnts.zip file and clicking n it the applicatin windw (WinRAR r any ther unzip applicatin yu are using) is pened with several cmmands in the menu. One f them is Extract T. After chsing it yu must set the extractin path t C:\Armenian_fnts. As a result Armenian fnts will be extracted int the C:\Armenian_fnts flder. Then g t the Cntrl Panel and click n Fnts icn (If yu dn t see icns but categries click n the View by: in the upper right crner f the Cntrl Panel windw and chse Icn instead f Categry). The 2 P a g e

3 Fnts flder will be pened with cmmand menu. Click n File and chse Install New Fnt. A windw will appear where yu shuld chse the flder with new fnts, i.e. C:\Armenian_fnts, and click OK. Clse all pened windws. Open Cntrl Panel -> Reginal and Language Optins -> Open Languages page and activate checkbx Install files fr cmplex script and right-left languages (including Thai). Yu will be prmpted t insert Windws XP installatin CD. Withut it the necessary files will nt be cpied crrectly and Armenian language supprt will nt be available. If yu dn t have the mentined CD please dwnlad the file I386 t yur desktp. After dwnlading the I386.zip file and clicking n it the applicatin windw (WinRAR r any ther unzip applicatin yu are using) is pened with several cmmands in the menu. One f them is Extract T. After clicking n it yu must chse Desktp as an extractin path. As a result the I386.zip file will be extracted int the Desktp\I386 flder. When yu are asked fr Windws XP installatin CD chse the path t Desktp\I386 flder instead. As a result all necessary files f Armenian language supprt will be added t the system. T be able t type in Armenian yu have t enable Armenian Keybard supprt. Please perfrm the fllwing steps t activate the Armenian keybard supprt: G t the Cntrl Panel-> Reginal and Language Optins > Keybards and Languages- >Change keybards. In General sectin find and press n Add buttn and select Armenian->Armenian Western r Armenian Eastern. Clse all pened windws by clicking OK several times. When yu want t change the keybard layut int Armenian, please click n a small blue EN sign near the clck at the right lwer crner f yur Desktp and change it int HY Yu will nw be able t type in Armenian and see Armenian fnts. T pen On-Screen Keybard: Click Start, pint t Prgrams, pint t Accessries, pint t Accessibility, and then click On-Screen Keybard. Windws Vista Please perfrm the fllwing steps t dwnlad and install the Armenian characters: Dwnlad the fnts. 5 Windws 8 Please perfrm the fllwing steps t dwnlad and install the Armenian characters: Select Cntrl Panel, and there Add a language under Clck, Language and Regin. The menu that pens up displays the languages and assciated keybard layuts that are currently installed n the Windws 8 system. Click Add a language link t install anther language in the system. The list f all interface languages where the Windws 8 perating system ships in will be displayed. The listing is srted by language name by default. Yu can select ne language at a time. Chse Armenian. The language gets added right away t the list f available languages. That des nt mean that they have been dwnladed t the system yet. T d that duble click n the language and select the dwnlad and install language pack frm the page that pens up. The dwnlad tk less than a minute n a fast Internet line. Yu will see the Armenian keybard layut as an icn near the clck at the right lwer crner f yur Desktp. Click n it and chse the Armenian. Yu will nw be able t type in Armenian and see Armenian fnts. T see the Armenian keybard layut: MAC OS G t Cntrl Panel and chse View by Categry-small icns. Then yu will see All Cntrl Panel Items. Chse Language, Language ptins, Armenian and click n Preview. The keybard layut will arrive n the screen Please perfrm the fllwing steps t dwnlad and install the Armenian characters: Click n the Apple lg: Chse "System Preferences" Click n "Internatinal" Click n the "Language" tab if Armenian is nt n the "Languages:" list Click n "Edit List" Check the bx next t "Հայերեն/ Armenian " Click OK Click n the "Input Menu" tab In the list find "Armenian -HM QWERTY" r "Armenian -Western QWERTY" and check the bx(s) next t it. Check the bx "Shw input menu in menu bar". Nw the American flag symbl (r sme ther flag) shuld appear n yur menu bar next t the time. Als check the "Keybard Viewer" bx if yu want t see the layut. Nw yu can press n the flag and chse the Armenian keybard frm the list. If yu want t see the layut, just click n "Shw Keybard Viewer". ios (ipad) Please perfrm the fllwing steps t wrk with Armenian texts n an ipad: Find the "Armenian Keybard fr ipad and iphne" applicatin in the Apple stre (Systemik Inc.), and dwnlad and install it t yur ipad. It is free f charge. When yu pen the applicatin yu will see the page "Hw t add Armenian Keybard". Fllw the instructins. Open [Settings]-[General]-[Keybard] Open[Keybard]-[Add New Keybard] Select [Armenian] (As a result the Armenian keybard will be added t yur keybard list) Lng tap n the earth icn n keybard and switch t Armenian Keybard

6 T wrk with Armenian Language curses, yu will need the Puffin brwser. It is necessary fr pening the Flash cntent. It is free f charge in the Apple stre. Search it by typing "Puffin Web Brwser". T wrk with MS Wrd dcuments, yu must install the "Pages" applicatin n yur ipad. It is free f charge in the Apple stre. When clicking n a Wrd dc in a lessn yu will see the message bx with a header "Dwnlads". Chse the ptin "Lcal strage" when asked where t stre the file. Clicking n that line yu will see messages: "Started dwnlading <file name>" and "<<file name> dwnladed>". Then in the Puffin brwser, click n the right upper icn (three hrizntal lines) and click n the dwn arrw icn. Yu will see yur Wrd file in the Dwnlads. Click n the file and it will be suggested t be imprted by different applicatins. Chse "Imprt with Pages". The Pages will shw yu available files including yur dwnladed ne. Click n it and start fulfilling yur task. If yu need t input Armenian text, click n the Glb sign n the virtual keybard until yu see the Armenian keybard. After finishing editing click n the... (three pints) sign and chse "Send a Cpy". It will be suggested t chse a frmat. Chse Wrd. Then click n "Chse Hw t Send" and chse "Add t iclud Drive". G t the iclud Drive", click n the file yu just saved, then click n right upper icn (a bx with upward arrw) and chse "Mail" frm the list. If yu have an accunt set up in the ipad yu will g t the New Message windw. Fill the destinatin address and subject and click Send. If yu didn't set yur accunt n yur ipad, a message with accunts will be shwn. If yu dn't have any f the prpsed accunts chse Other, click n "Add Mail Accunt" and fill in the necessary data. If there is n sund in the Puffin brwser click n the upper right icn f 3 parallel lines, then n the Setting icn and set "Ignre mute switch". 5 P a g e

7 SUPPLEMENTAL TOOLS FOR HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS a digital camera r a scanner a micrphne a web camera VIDEOCONFERENCING Videcnferencing is required fr direct cmmunicatin with Online Instructr and peers, as well as fr ral exams. The Online Instructr uses varius videcnferencing systems and the students can cnnect t the vide cnference thrugh their brwsers. Students need t have Java installed and enabled n their cmputers in rder t use web vide calls and/r enter vide cnference rms. When yu install Java, it gets enabled autmatically. T check whether yu have Java installed please g t the Brwser Check (n the bttm f the page). Then g t the Plug-ins paragraph, click n the link under the Java icn (right icn f the first rw) and fllw the instructins. AUDIO RECORDING Sme lessns require yur feedback in the frm f sund recrded files. We recmmend using the fllwing free sund recrding sftware: Windws PC G t the link Click n it. The dwnlad will start and the FreeSundRecrder.exe file will be written n yur desktp r Dwnlads flder. Click n the FreeSundRecrder.exe file. As a result the prgram will be installed. Activate the prgram. The prgram windw will arrive. T start recrding click n the red buttn. The prgram will ask yu the name f the file. Enter it and start speaking int the micrphne. MAC G t the link There are installatin instructins. Install the prgram. When sund recrding with it please be aware that the prgram prduces tw files. Yu must send bth files t yur instructr.
