1 POWERDB REV5.0 RELEASE NOTES Version 5.0 of PowerDB Acceptance and Maintenance Test Data Management Software incorporates the latest features added to the software. A description of the new features and the steps to install this version are described below. IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY RUNNING AN EARLIER VERSION OF PowerDB: Due to our recent corporate reorganization the default installation directories have changed. To prevent confusion and possible duplicate installations we recommend that you first uninstall the old version, before installing 5.0. MAKE NOTE OF THE SERIAL NUMBER FOR EACH MACHINE. THIS PROCESS WILL NOT REMOVE OR OTHERWISE AFFECT YOUR EXISTING DATABASES. Go to your Start Menu > Control Panel. Select Add or Remove Programs. Browse down the list and locate PowerDB. Click the Change/Remove button. Respond Yes to the confirmation dialog and follow the on-screen instructions. Also go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs and delete any file named Optima Systems or PowerDB to avoid having two files in this directory after updating. When you install Version 5.0 on your master database machine all LAN users need to be logged out of PowerDB. You will need to install Version 5.0 on all LAN machines before proceeding with data entry and on all field machines before synchronizing again. NOTE: Do not forget to update any intermediary databases (i.e., databases on USB drives used for synchronization.) Follow the instructions on the screen. NOTE: PowerDB 5.0 will prompt you to update databases used with previous versions of PowerDB. Respond Yes to this prompt. The software will prompt you to create a backup prior to update; we recommend you respond Yes to this prompt. 1. NEW COLUMNS IN THE JOB LIST Completed Is the job completed? External Document Indicates that an external document is associated with the job Last Touched Date of last change within job Page 1 of 25

COMPLETED JOB LOCK A Manager or Administrator can flag a job as locked Data cannot be changed within a locked job Only an Administrator can release the Completed Job Lock How to lock a job: Selecting the job in the list Right-Click -> Completed 3. HISTORICAL DATA ENTRY MADE EASY Now you can enter and store historical data, without creating dummy jobs Follow these steps: Create your job Add your piece of equipment For the historical data entry: Double click on the EQUIPMENT to open a new (blank) form Enter one set of historical data in the form Be sure to specify an appropriate historical date Save the data In the tree, select the test date for the data you just entered Right-Click and select Push To History Repeat the data entry steps for each set of historical data Finally enter the data for the current year Page 2 of 25

BLUE HIGHLIGHT ON PASTE LAST TEST DATA If enabled by the administrator, when a user selects to "Paste Last Test Data" (Right click menu on form) the designated control types will be highlighted blue until they are "touched". The data types to highlight are designated under the Tools- >Administration dialog, "Advanced Options" tab. Page 3 of 25
4 These options synchronize to the field databases 5. USER ACCOUNTS LISTED ALPHABETICALLY User account list is now listed alphabetically by the user name. 6. MANGERS LISTED ALPHABETICALLY (JOB PROPERTIES) The list of possible managers, on the Job Properties Dialog, is now listed alphabetically by the user name. Page 4 of 25
5 7. NEW COMMENT / DEFICIENCY REPORT As before, the comment / deficiency reports will grow based on the number of tests in the job. New to this release, the report will also grow dynamically depending on the number of comment or deficiency lines. You are no longer limited to 6 lines in the summary report (this requires you to modify the existing template or create a new template). Also NEW is the Combined Comment / Deficiency report option. By selecting this option (on the Print Job Results dialog) your comments and deficiencies will be listed together in a single report. ** NOTE to Upgrading Customers ** You will need to import the updated Job Multi-Use Report into the Template Section. Be sure to UPDATE your existing template, skipping the appropriate prompts for other templates you might have customized such as Logo. If you synchronize your databases, then you will only need to import this template into the Master database, and others users will receive it the next time they synchronize. It is also recommended that you import the updated Comments template. This new template allows you to adjust the number of lines dedicated to comments and deficiencies, and it supports word-wrapping during data entry. Page 5 of 25

NEW PRINT OPTIONS (PRINT JOB RESULTS DIALOG) A) Combined Comment / Deficiency Report This will generate a summary report that lists the comments and deficiencies for each test, together, for quick reference. You will be able to print either the combined report, or the individual reports (not both). B) Data Sheets This option allows you to print any of the summary reports WITHOUT printing all of the data sheets. C) Save & Print Previously just Print, this button is more descriptive of the task performed. The current sort information will be saved, and then the report is printed. D) Save & Close Previously just Save, this button is more descriptive of the task performed. The current sort information will be saved, but no printing will occur. 9. WORD WRAP Text controls can now be specified to wrap to the next control in the tab order. Conditions The current text control must be set for wrap text (see image) The next control must be a text control Page 6 of 25
7 The next control must be empty Steps To Enable: Open the properties dialog for a text control. Check the Wrap Text option Click OK on the properties dialog Use: (as long as conditions are met) Typing Type your text in the text control as normal. When you reach the maximum number of characters that will fit in the line, then the current word you are typing will be moved to the next control; you can continue typing without interruption. Pasting Paste text into a control, as usual. If the text is longer than the space allowed, then it will be wrapped into the next control. Scripting assignments do NOT wrap without special handling. 8 10. FLAG INDIVIDUAL PAGES TO NOT PRINT Each page of a report has a new scripting tag (HideOnPrint_N where N is the page number). If that tag is set then the designated page will not be printed. The page numbering is updated based on the number of pages actually to be printed. You may use the Hide Page 2 template to easily accomplish this. The feature would typically be used to have a second page of comments that only gets printed if comments exist, or to optionally print a second page of trended data. ** NOTE ** In a Job the number of pages to print is determined at Save time. 11. MOVE TO JOB CORRECTION A correction was made to prevent an occasional problem, which failed to associate data with the destination job when Move To Job was executed. No data was ever lost because of this issue. 12. DEVICE PREVIEW Any user, who does not have permissions to edit Devices now has the ability to view any device form. If they go to the Device tree, and open any device, the user will see the device as it would appear in the job (as the designers see in Test Mode ). Page 8 of 25
9 13. REGIONS You may set up Regions for your Job List at Tools > Administration > Database Options. Jobs are assigned to a Region through Job Properties. 14. ENHANCED COMMENTS/DEFICIENCIES TEMPLATE You may vary the number of comments and deficiencies lines on each test form in a Job. You may also build a file of default text entries, which you may add to the job results from a Right- Click option under the Data tab of the Scripts. 15. EDIT THE EQUIPMENT FOLDER TITLES You may edit the Equipment Folder titles at Tools > Administration > Equipment Folders. The current structure requires the number of levels to remain unchanged. 16. EDIT THE JOB TREE FOLDERS If two User and/or Plant folders occur due to moving equipment between Jobs you may get all equipment in the Job Tree under one User and Plant by selecting the Refresh Folders option in the Job Tree right-click menu. The tree structure will be determined by Job Properties. 17. IMAGE FILES PowerDB now supports.jpeg and.gif files in addition to.bmp PowerDB now automatically resizes large files to better conserve the database size. With forms that have image input controls, you have the option to Copy/Paste image as well as drag image files onto the form. 18. TRENDING PowerDB now allows you to print, copy/paste and save trend chart files from the right-click menu. 19. INTELLIGENT IMPORT PowerDB now allows you to select the Intelligent Import option when importing forms into the device tree. This automatically uses the most recent templates when they begin with "Optima " or "INST_" and automatically ignores the following templates: Logo 1 Logo 2 Header Header - Basic Info Header - Title Header - PageNum Header Footer Footer - Common Comments Page 9 of 25
10 Divider 20. SUBMIT FILES PowerDB now allows you to easily submit copies of your database, log files and related external files to PowerDB Technical Support if problems are encountered. Go to Help > Submit Files. 21. SCHEMA UPDATE AND STANDARD TEMPLATES Along with Version 5.0 of PowerDB there has been a new schema added to update the database to work with the new features. The first time you open PowerDB after installing Version 5.0 you will be prompted to update the schema. Respond Yes to this prompt and it is suggested you respond Yes to the prompt which recommends to backup prior to updating the schema. NOTE: for LAN users please ensure that all users are logged off during the schema update. Job Multi-Use Report The Job Multi-Use Report (Comments and Deficiencies) has been modified to combine your comments and deficiencies into one summary report. Previous users must import and update the Job Multi-Use Report provided with this version release to have this change available in your reports library (refer to Section 22). Fields Service Report - The Field Service Report has been updated to make use of the Word Wrap feature. Previous users must import and update the Field Service Report provided with this version release to have this change available in your reports library (refer to Section 22). Comments Template - The Comments template has been modified to allow you to vary the number of comments and deficiencies lines on each test form in a Job. Previous users must import and update the Comments template provided with this version release to have this change available in your reports library (refer to Section 22). You may also build a file of default text entries available during Job data entry from a Right-Click menu. Open the User Data template. Place your mouse in a blank area of the template. Select Properties from the right-click menu. Select the Script button in the Form Properties dialog box. Select the Data tab. Enter your default Comments and Deficiencies exactly as you wish them to appear in the areas indicated. (i.e., comments will go on lines between DefaultComments: and :END, and deficiencies will go on lines between DefaultDeficiencies: and :END ) Page 10 of 25
11 Click OK, return to the Form Properties dialog box and click OK. Save your changes. Footer Common Template - The Footer Common template has been modified to capture and report the last modification date of each device form. You may import and update your template (refer to Section 22) or if you have modified this template you may update your template as follows: Open the Footer Common template. Scroll to the far right and open the Text Properties for the Text Display control. Select the Script button. Move the scripting from the OnInitialUpdate tab to the OnUpdate tab. Click OK, return to the Text Properties dialog box and click OK. Save your changes. 22. ADDITIONS/CHANGES TO THE FORMS AND TEMPLATES LIBRARY The following new forms have been added to the PowerDB library. Images of these forms are included at the end of this document PF SF6 LIVE TANK CIRCUIT BREAKER CT RATIO AND EXCITATION TEST (GE) CEY51A RELAY CABLE HIGH POTENTIAL WITH TIMER FALL OF POTENTIAL 3 POINT FALL OF POTENTIAL 4 POINT SIMPLIFIED FALL OF POTENTIAL SLOPE SOIL RESISTIVITY STAR DELTA VLF CABLE TEST TAN DELTA CABLE TEST For users of earlier versions of PowerDB to bring in changes or additions to forms and templates it is necessary to export them from the Version 5.0 installation database (latest_forms.mdb) and import them into your existing database. To do this, follow the steps below. b) Select File, and then select Change Database. Make note of the currently active database location. c) Browse to locate the directory where you have installed Version 5.0 from Step 1 above. d) Locate and select Latest_Forms.mdb, click OK. e) The software will prompt you that PowerDB must restart, click OK. f) PowerDB will restart in Latest_Forms.mdb. Logon to PowerDB with the User Name administrator. You can view and print the new test forms to determine if you wish to import these to your existing database or view and print them from the.pdf file on the installation CD. For the new forms you wish to add to your forms library, select the form in the device tree and select File, then select Export, then Page 11 of 25
12 Export. Create a file name and save the file with a.pxd file extension. Make note of the directory the file has been saved in. You may repeat this step for each test form you wish to export. g) Select File, and then select Change Database. Browse to the original database location noted in Step A above. This directory should be where your existing database is located. Click OK. h) The software will prompt you that PowerDB must restart, click OK. i) Logon to PowerDB. j) In the device tree, select File and then select Import, then Import Form PXD. Locate the test form(s) saved in Step E and select the file. Select the Intelligent Import option and answer other prompts as required. 23. POWERDB INSTRUMENT DRIVERS PowerDB supports instrument drivers for a variety of instruments from several different manufacturers. POWERDB USER TOOLS AND TIPS If you notice a performance issue when opening test forms in very large Jobs go to the View menu and select Alternate Tree Method. Before you replace a computer or upgrade the hard drive, be certain to un-license PowerDB from that machine. Failing to do so could result in the loss of that license.
