1 Address Bar The space provided on a web browser that shows the addresses of websites. Application Computer software designed to help users perform Specific tasks.
2 Back Button A button at the top of the Web browser that allows you to go back to the previous web page that you were on. Backspace A key on the keyboard that erases the information before the cursor.
3 Blog A web site on which an individual or group of users record opinions, information, etc. on a regular basis. Character Any number, letter, symbol, or space created by the keyboard.! # * $
4 Click To press the mouse once. Close To exit a program or file and close the window.
5 Copy To create a copy of text or graphics, and be able to paste it in another place while keeping the original. CPU Central Processing Unit. The brain of the computer that controls programs.
6 Cursor Arrow or blinking line that tells you where you are working. Cut To remove text or graphics and be able to paste it in another place.
7 Delete A key on the keyboard that erases the information after the cursor. Desktop The screen or working area on the computer.
8 Document Something created on the computer. A way of sending messages from one computer to another (electronic mail).
9 Flash Drive A portable data storage. Fonts The design for a set of characters. TECHNOLOGY
10 Graphics Pictures on the computer. Handle An outline of the object appears with small boxes. Each box is a handle. By dragging the handles, you can change the shape and size of the object.
11 Home button Returns the user back to the start page. Hyperlink To link a file or document to another location. Users can click on a highlighted word or image and go directly to that link.
12 Icon A small picture or symbol that represents a program or file. Internet Millions of computers around the world connected together.
13 Key A button on the keyboard of a computer. Keyboard A set of keys or buttons used to type information onto a computer.
14 Maximize To enlarge a window to the full size of the screen. Menu Bar A horizontal strip that contains lists of available menus.
15 Minimize To hide a window from view. Monitor The screen where information from the computer shows up.
16 Mouse An object that controls the arrow cursor on a computer. Network A group of computers and other devices linked together to serve a specific purpose.
17 New Tells the computer to create a new blank document. Open Tells the computer to get documents you have saved.
18 Paste To paste down text or graphics that have been cut or copied. Print Tells the computer to send a copy of your document to the printer.
19 Right Click To push the button on the right side of the mouse in order to find a menu of a list of options. Save Tells the computer to save your work just as it is.
20 Scanner Captures images from photo prints, posters, magazine pages, and similar sources for computer editing and display. Scroll Bar A bar that appears on the side or the bottom of a window to control which part of the list or document is currently in the window s frame.
21 Search Engine A website that will search for information based on the keywords you enter. Server A computer program that provides services to other computer programs.
22 Spreadsheet A document that stores data in a grid of horizontal rows and vertical columns. Text Printed or written words.
23 Tool Bar A set of icons or buttons that are part of a software program s interface or an open window. URL The address of a World Wide Web page.
24 Web Browser A software application for retrieving information resources on the Internet. Window A visual area containing some kind of user interface.
