1 dctrack Quick Setup Guide This guide walks you through installing dctrack for the first time. In other words, this is a clean install - it is not an integration of dctrack and Power IQ, and it is not an upgrade or reinstallation of dctrack. Important: dctrack users can upgrade using the BIN file to move to dctrack dctrack 3.x users must be running dctrack at a minimum. They must then do a complete reinstall from the ISO and restore their to move to dctrack 5.0. dctrack 2.x users should contact Professional Services and Support via the Sunbird Support website at or via at mailto:tech@sunbirddcim.com. After you have installed dctrack on your server, see the dctrack Implementation & Integration Guide for information on - Planning, Assessment and Data Collection Building Your First dctrack Data Center Integrating dctrack with One or More Power IQs Integrating dctrack with Asset Management Strips via EMX or PX2 If you are installing a dctrack appliance and need installation instructions, see the quick setup guide that came with the appliance, or download the guide from the Sunbird Support page at (Recommended) Obtain a dctrack Support Website Username and Password The dctrack ISO file, as well as additional files, templates, help and so on, are obtained from the A username and password provided by Sunbird are required to access the website. Sunbird suggests obtaining your username and password as soon as possible. Contact Professional Services and Support via the Support site for your username and password. Retrieve Your dctrack License dctrack is licensed based on the number of cabinets maintained by the application. Administrators add license files the first time they log in to dctrack. If you have not already done so, retrieve your dctrack license from Sunbird via the link provided in the Welcome you received after registering dctrack. If you have not received a Welcome or license file, contact Professional Services and Support from the Your dctrack license file is retrieved from the Sunbird website after you activate your registration. To activate your registration, click the link in the "Thank you for registering" from Sunbird and create your user account. Once you create your account, look for a "Your Sunbird software license key is available" containing a link to your license file download page. Save the license file locally so you can access it when you need to add it the first time you log in to dctrack. Additional licenses can be added as needed once you are using dctrack. See Licensing in dctrack online help. Client Workstation Hardware and Software Driver Requirements Hardware Requirements Dual core processor with 2 GHz 2GB of RAM, 4GB for Windows 7 and Windows 8 2GB of free disk space Required Software Drivers When dctrack Classic View is launched for the first time, the following prerequisite software is installed on the client workstation automatically (if needed). Microsoft.NET 3.5 Framework Microsoft.NET versions are not inclusive of previous Microsoft.NET versions. dctrack Quick Setup Guide 1

2 This means you must first install Microsoft.NET 3.5 SP1 before you install Microsoft.NET 4.0, you must. Microsoft Access 2003 Runtime You are prompted to set Microsoft Access Macro Security to Low. dctrack requires this in order to work properly. To change the setting to another level at a later time, consult your Microsoft Access documentation. PostgreSQL ODBC drivers and PostgreSQL ADO drivers Microsoft Office file converter pack Note: Go to the dctrack Web Client and click Admin > Install Classic View Prerequisites to reinstall the prerequisite software at any time. You must install the following additional software to run dctrack. This software is not installed with the prerequisite software. Microsoft Paint To view model images correctly in Classic View, Microsoft Paint must be set as your default image viewer. Images must be in.bmp file format. Adobe Flash Player Version (or later) Optional Software AutoCAD 2012 (and earlier) or Microsoft Visio If you are planning on linking objects in a floor map drawing file with items in dctrack, use either AutoCAD 2012 (and earlier) or Microsoft Visio to create the drawing files. Note: Drawings created in AutoCAD 2013 and 2014 are not supported by dctrack. Drawing File Templates Raritan offers AutoCAD and Microsoft Visio drawing file templates you can download. Use the templates to create drawing file renderings of your data center. Note: Both AutoCAD and Microsoft Visio drawings must be saved as.dwg files in order to upload them to dctrack. Download templates from the DCIM Support site at Note: Up to Chrome version 37 supports launching Classic View and using the Web Client. Current versions of Chrome do not support launching Classic View but do allow you to use the Web Client. Microsoft Internet Explorer supports both the Web Client and Classic View. (Required) Make sure your browser allows popups. Popups are required when running Item Detail reports among other features. (Optional) Sunbird recommends using the default browser font settings (11 px). Customizing the default settings overrides dctrack's Web Client font settings. Display problems may occur with font settings larger than 12 px. Virtual Machine Requirements and Recommendations Requirements Your dctrack virtual machine must be given priority. Configure ESXi so that all required resources are available on the dctrack virtual machine at all times. Note that manipulating ESXi settings or changing the priority of other virtual machines running on the same ESXi host may impact the ESXi scheduling policy. If this happens, resources may be diverted from the dctrack virtual machine, which may result in poor performance or dctrack malfunctioning. Minimum VMware Host Recommendations VMware host minimum configuration recommendations for dctrack 5.0.0: Number of Cabinets RAM (GB) CPU (Cores) Datastore (GB) CentOS VMWare Up to Bit ESX/ESXi 101 to Bit ESX/ESXi 201 to to Bit ESX/ESXi Bit ESX/ESXi Supported Operating Systems Windows 7 and 8 operating systems Windows XP operating system Supported Browsers and Browser Requirements Microsoft Internet Explorer 8, 10 and 11 Chrome 1501 to to 3000 More than Bit ESX/ESXi Bit ESX/ESXi Bit ESX/ESXi dctrack Quick Setup Guide 2

3 *Note: An additional 3GB of space may be needed to upload the ISO so it can be installed. Alternatively, the ISO can be installed directly from the DVD. Required TCP Ports The following TCP ports are required to be open when building your virtual machine: HTTPS (secure channel) This port must be open in order to access the dctrack login page Postgres DB PostgresDB 5432 is not encrypted but must remain open. Classic View uses this port to connect to the dctrack database and does not work if the port is closed. Optional TCP Ports Leaving the following TCP ports open is optional. If you do not leave these ports open, note the requirements and/or limitations indicated here SSH It is not necessary to have the SSH port open since SSH functionality is available directly on the virtual machine console. If port 22 is not open, however, SSH cannot be used to access dctrack to perform diagnostic operations of any kind HTTP If port 80 is not open, users must specify when entering the dctrack URL in their browser. Retrieve the dctrack ISO File If you have not already done so, download the dctrack ISO file from the Sunbird Support page at Verify the Datastore and Upload the ISO File to the Datastore Verify the datastore has 160GB free for a new virtual machine, and 2.8GB free for the installation ISO file. Upload the ISO file to the datastore. 8 Note: The Web Client displays the time and date of the local machine it is accessed from, not the system clock. However, database records created from Web Client events such as add item, delete item and so on are recorded in the database using the system clock time. For additional information, see Configure NTP Server Settings (on page 8) in dctrack online help. Configure NTP Server Settings To retrieve date and time information, configured dctrack to make contact with NTP servers. A list of servers dctrack can access is provided. dctrack attempts to retrieve the date and time from the first server on the list. If that attempt fails, it proceeds down the list and attempts to contact the second server, then the third, and so on. NTP must be enabled before this information can be retrieved. Note: The Web Client uses NTP but Classic View does not. 1. In the Web Client, click Admin > Appliance Settings. The Settings page opens in a new browser window or tab. 2. Click Application Settings in the Application Administration section. 3. In the Time Settings section, check the NTP Settings checkbox to enable it. 4. Click Add. 5.
