To add music or change settings, click the tabs at the top. For more information about adding music and changing settings, see the other topics in this section. 5. Click Play. To stop playing the slideshow, press the Escape key. To create a saved slideshow: 1. Select the photos (or an Event, a Faces or Places group, an album, or a project such as a book, card, or calendar) you want in your slideshow. You can always change the photos in the slideshow later. 2. If you re in full-screen view, exit it by clicking Full Screen in the toolbar.

3. Do one of the following: Click the Create button in the toolbar and choose Slideshow from the pop-up menu. Choose File > New > Slideshow. 4. The new slideshow appears in the Source list, below Slideshows. 5. Type a name for your slideshow. 6. To reorder photos, drag photos in the photo browser at the top of the window. To display photos in random order. 7. To choose a theme, click the Themes button in the toolbar. To see a preview of each option, move your pointer over the thumbnail. 8. To play the slideshow, click the Play button in the toolbar. While a slideshow is playing, move your pointer to make the slideshow controls appear: TIP: If it takes a long time for a slideshow to start, it might be because the background music is a very large file. Try choosing a song with a smaller file size. To see a song s file size, open itunes, select the song, and then choose File > Get Info.

Change a slideshow s theme After you create a slideshow, you can change its theme (design) at any time. If you re in fullscreen view, exit it by clicking Full Screen in the toolbar. To change a slideshow s theme: 1. Do one of the following: Select the slideshow in the Source list, and then click the Themes button in the toolbar. iphoto 11 While the slideshow is playing, move your pointer to make the slideshow controls appear, and then click the Themes button: 2. To select a theme, click one of the thumbnails. To preview a theme, move your pointer over its thumbnail. Add or remove photos in a slideshow After you create a saved slideshow (one that appears in the Source list), you can add more photos to it or delete photos from it at any time. To add or remove photos: 1. To add more photos to a slideshow, do one of the following: Select the photos you want to add, click the Add To button in the toolbar and choose Slideshow, and then select the slideshow you want to add the photo to (if you have more than one saved slideshow). Drag the photos (from your iphoto library, a CD, a DVD, or a hard disk) directly to the slideshow s name in the Source list. 2. NOTE: If you add a photo from your hard disk, iphoto automatically imports it into your photo library, if it s not there already. 3. To delete a photo from the slideshow, select the slideshow in the Source list, select the photo in the photo browser at the top of the window, and then press Delete.

Add music to a slideshow You can add music to your slideshow. iphoto includes a selection of theme music, or you can use songs or playlists from itunes, or songs from GarageBand. To add music to a slideshow: 1. Do one of the following: Select the slideshow in the Source list, and then click the Music button in the toolbar. (If you re in full-screen view, first exit it by clicking Full Screen in the toolbar.) While a slideshow is playing, move the pointer to make the slideshow controls appear, and then click the Music button: 2. In the Music Settings window, make sure the Play music during slideshow checkbox is selected. 3. Do one of the following: To use one song for the whole slideshow, choose an option from the Source popup menu, and then select a song. To listen to a song, double-click it, or select it and click the Play button. To stop playing the song, click the Play button again. To create a playlist of several songs, select Custom Playlist for Slideshow, and drag songs from the top list to the area below the checkbox. To reorder songs, drag them up or down in the list. 4. To adjust the slideshow length to the music (or vice versa), go to slideshow settings. To prevent slideshow music from playing, deselect Play music during slideshow in the Music Settings window. TIP: If it takes a long time for a slideshow to start, it might be because the background music is a very large file. Try choosing a song with a smaller file size. To see a file s size, open itunes, select the song, and then choose File > Get Info.

Change slideshow settings You can specify settings that affect an entire slideshow, including how long each slide appears, which transition effect appears between slides, whether to display captions, and more. You can also specify unique durations and transition effects for specific slides. You can also add motion to a photograph in a slideshow project by panning across the image or by zooming in or out. This is called the Ken Burns effect. NOTE: Some options aren t available for every slideshow theme. To change settings for an entire slideshow: 1. Do one of the following: Select the slideshow in the Source list, click the Settings button in the toolbar, and then click All Slides. (If you re in full-screen view, first exit it by clicking Full Screen in the toolbar.) While a slideshow is playing, move the pointer to make the slideshow controls appear, and then click the Settings button: 2. Do one of the following: To set the length of time each slide appears, select Play each slide for a minimum of seconds, and click the arrows to increase or decrease the number of seconds. To play the slideshow as long as the music plays, select Fit slideshow to music. 3. To change the effect between slides, select the Transition checkbox, and then do one or both of the following: Choose a transition from the pop-up menu. For some transitions, you can change the direction in which the effect occurs by clicking the arrows. To change how long the transition lasts, drag the Speed slider. 4. TIP: If transitions play too slowly, try decreasing your screen resolution (choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Displays). Very large photos might also

transition slowly; try changing the photo s size -- Share and Export a photo. 5. You can add these additional slideshow settings: To make each slide s title, description, place, or date appear, select the Show Caption checkbox, and then choose an item from the pop-up menu. To display slides in random order, select Shuffle slide order. If you don t see this option, play the slideshow, move the pointer to make the slideshow controls appear, and then click the Settings button. To automatically restart the slideshow when it s over, select Repeat slideshow. To prevent black borders from appearing on photos cropped to an aspect ratio that doesn t match the display s, select Scale photos to fill screen. Choose an option from the Aspect Ratio pop-up menu, depending on where you ll play the slideshow. If you don t see this option, press the Escape key on your keyboard, and then click the Settings button in the toolbar. To change settings for an individual slide: Before you change settings for specific slides, it s best to specify the settings for the slideshow as a whole. If you specify settings for individual slides and then change options for the whole slideshow, the slideshow settings might override the individual settings. 1. Select the slideshow in the Source list, and then select a slide in the photo browser at the top of the iphoto window. 2. Click the Settings button in the toolbar, and then click This Slide at the top of the Slideshow Settings window. 3. Do any of the following (some options aren t available for every slideshow theme): To add an effect such as a sepia tint, click one of the effect thumbnails. To turn the effect off, click the thumbnail again. To change the length of time the slide plays, select the Play this slide for checkbox and click the arrows to increase or decrease the number of seconds. To change the slide s transition effect, select the Transition checkbox and choose an option from the Transition pop-up menu. To change the transition s duration, drag the Speed slider. For some transitions, you can also change the effect s

direction by clicking an arrow on the directional button. TIP: To see the transition, click the Preview photo. Export a slideshow If you want to view a slideshow in another application or on a device such as ipod or iphone, you first export the slideshow as a QuickTime movie. To export a slideshow: 1. Select the slideshow in the Source list. (If you re in full-screen view, first exit it by clicking Full Screen in the toolbar.) 2. Click the Export button in the toolbar. You can also choose File > Export, and then click Slideshow. 3. Depending on the devices you'll use to view your slideshow, select one or more sizes. 4. If you don t want iphoto to send your slideshow to itunes (if you don t plan to use itunes to sync the slideshow to a device), deselect Automatically send slideshow to itunes. Sending a slideshow to itunes enables you to sync the slideshow to a device, such as your iphone or ipod. It also makes the slideshow available in the Media Browser, so that you can easily insert the slideshow in documents you create in ilife and iwork. 5. Click the Export button. 6. Choose a location to save your slideshow and click OK. If you selected the checkbox in step 4, itunes opens for you.

Use one or more photos as your desktop picture The background of your computer screen is called the desktop. iphoto makes it easy to use one or several pictures in your photo library as your desktop image. For best results, crop the photo to the correct size for your display. To use one photo as your desktop picture: 1. Select the photo you want to use. 2. Choose Share > Set Desktop. (If you re in full-screen view, move your pointer to the top of the screen to make the menu bar appear.) Your selected photo appears as your desktop picture. To change photos, select a new photo, and then choose Share > Set Desktop. To return to your previous desktop, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Desktop & Screen Saver. Click Desktop, and then choose one of the options. To display multiple photos in sequence: 1. Select an album, Event, or other group of photos. 2. Choose Share > Set Desktop. (If you re in full-screen view, move your pointer to the top of the screen to make the menu bar appear.) Your selected photos appear as your desktop pictures. To change the photos, select a new set of photos, and then choose Share > Set Desktop. To return to your previous desktop, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Desktop & Screen Saver. Click Desktop, and then choose one of the options. iphoto 11

Export a photo When you , print, publish, or export a photo from your iphoto library, iphoto asks you to choose the size, also known as resolution. The settings you choose depend on what you want to do with the photo. To change a photo s size or file format, you export the photo. You might want to export photos so that you can import them into another application. To export photos: 1. Select the photo or photos you want to export. 2. Choose File > Export. 3. At the top of the Export Photos window, click the File Export button. 4. To specify the file type for the exported photo, choose an option from the Kind pop-up menu: Original: Exports the photo as it was originally imported into iphoto, before editing. Current: Exports the photo in its current format. If you imported a RAW-format photo and then edited it in iphoto, the photo is exported as a JPEG file. JPEG: If you choose this format, choose an option from the JPEG Quality pop-up menu. The higher the quality, the bigger the photo. For example, if the photo will be used on a website where optimal quality for printing isn t required, you could choose Low to save storage space on the website. TIFF: A lossless file format that works well for transferring photos between computers and applications. PNG: Another lossless file format popular for web images. 5. To change the size (resolution), choose an option from the Size pop-up menu: For photos to be ed or mainly viewed onscreen, these settings compress the photos (making them smaller): iphoto 11 Small: Use for photos you or publish to websites where you don t expect anyone to download and print your photos. Medium: Use when you or your recipients have a reasonably fast Internet connection, such as DSL. This setting is not suitable for making prints.

Large: Use this setting when you and your recipients have a very fast connection. This size can be used to print small to standard-size photos (2 by 3, 3 by 5, and 4 by 6 inches). For photos to be printed or published for download, these settings provide maximum detail for final prints: Optimized: Use for larger prints and for publishing photos to your MobileMe Gallery for others to download and print. With this setting, photos are slightly compressed to a smaller file size so that they download faster without compromising quality. Actual Size/Full Size: Use to make high-quality prints in small to large sizes, or to upload photos to your Gallery so that others can download and print them. This setting matches the actual size of your photo, so it may take longer to upload or download. 6. Specify your other options: Include checkboxes: If you choose JPEG or TIFF from the Kind pop-up menu, you can include titles, keywords, and location information with the exported photos by selecting the checkboxes. File Name: Choose whether to export photos in sequence, or by their filenames, iphoto titles, or album name. Prefix for sequential: If you choose Sequential from the File Name pop-up menu, you can specify text to appear before each number (for example, Birthday01, Birthday02, and so on). This step is optional. 7. Click Export. 8. Choose where to save the exported photo files, and then click OK.

Play a video clip If you imported a video clip that you shot using a digital still camera, you can watch the clip in iphoto. To play a video clip: Do one of the following: Double-click the video clip. Select the clip and press the Space bar. iphoto 11 Use the controls to play and pause your video clip, fine-tune the sound, and more. You can drag the controls to place them wherever you want on your screen.
