6 Presentation Statistics is an important responsibility of Banco de Cabo Verde (BCV), with the Central Bank s regulations stipulating that BCV is responsible for pooling and preparing monetary, financial, foreign exchange and balance of payment statistics. In terms of the institution s internal organization, the Department of Economic Studies and Statistics is entrusted with the mission of compiling, analyzing and disseminating monetary, financial and external sector statistics. In the context of the information and knowledge society, besides their traditional responsibilities, namely the maintenance of price stability and an appropriate implementation of the monetary policy, central banks are increasingly assuming the role of producers and disseminators of information and knowledge, with emphasis on the economic and financial fields, where they play an important role of boosting the relations with the scientific and technical community both nationally and internationally. This Bulletin falls within this perspective. It is the result of work carried out by the Department of Economic Studies and Statistics which brings together the most relevant statistics on the four sectors of the economy real, monetary, public finance and external with series from the beginning of the 1990s to the late These statistics were produced by Banco de Cabo Verde, National Statistics Institute and the Ministry of Finance. With its publication, the goal is to fill a large gap that currently exists in terms of availability of statistical data, whose importance is growing, given the greater complexity of the functioning of Cape Verde s economy both internally and in its relations with the outside world and the challenges related to deeper understanding of applied economics in the country, which is an essential condition to, among other things, improve the efficiency and effectiveness with which economic policy authorities and economic agents perform. Moreover, in the context of increasing internationalization of Cape Verde s economy, the publication of macroeconomic statistics, compiled in accordance with the best international practices, is also very important in the promotion of the country with its main economic partners. 5 Banco de Cabo Verde
