2 AppleWorks 6.0 Starting Points What s New in AppleWorks 6.0 AppleWorks 6.0 is a versatile and powerful program that integrates the best of everything you need - word processing, a drawing program, a painting program, a database program, a spreadsheet program, and a presentation program. All programs are user friendly with floating button bars, panels and palettes for your convenience. In AppleWorks 6.0 you can: link to the web for information and additional clip art with just a keyword entry customize each program s button bar to reflect your favorite commands add textures, gradients and wallpaper to a streamlined Accents Palette insert active and functioning spreadsheets into other modules find all tools in one floating palette embed sounds, pictures, and movies into table cells create a professional looking slide show with the new Presentation module. Starting Points Your AppleWorks program opens to a new menu called Starting Points. This window allows you to launch your program, access Assistants, open recently saved AppleWorks documents, search the web or even save your own templates to a special tab.
3 Click on a program button to launch your application. Click on a tab to see other options. Assistants Tab Click on an assistant icon to launch a dialog box. Follow the step-by-step instructions to create your choice. Templates Tab Click on a template to launch your choice. Change the content to meet your needs. Choose File > Save As to give it a new name.
4 Saving Your Own Templates to Starting Points Create your template. Choose File > Save As to give it a new name. Click the dialog box s Template radio button and the Starting Points Template folder will automatically open. Click Save and your document will appear in the Starting Points Template tab. Web Tab (Links to site of over 150 additional items) Connect to the Internet before you begin. Open AppleWorks to Starting Points and click on the Web tab. Click on the templates icon. Two web progress dialog boxes will appear and download the most current templates. Click on any template of interest and it will download to your site. Choose File > Save. Recent Items Tab
5 From Edit > Preferences > General... choose Files from the Text: drop down menu. Enter the number of saved AppleWork s documents you would like to access. Open Starting Points. (File > Show Starting Points) Click on the Recent Items tab to view your most recently saved work. Double click on the document to open. Add Your Own Tab Go to your hard drive and double click on Appleworks 6.0. Double click on the starting points folder. Go to File>New folder. Name the folder what you want your tab to be named. Note: Use this feature to add your favorite templates to Starting Points, such as newsletters, banners, tests, or calendars. Contextual Menu This menu is accessed by holding the ctrl key down and clicking inside a tool palette, an accent palette, a clippings palette or Starting Points. Hold the ctrl key down while clicking on the palette. From the pop up menu, highlight your choice and continue with the dialog box.
6 The Menus The menu bar changes to reflect which ever document type you are using at that time. Many menus stay the same while others such as Outline, Organize, and Calculate only appear in a few documents. Here are a few menus that are new or different to Appleworks 6.0 users. The File menu The Edit menu The Text menu The Help menu

9 Button Bar and Panel You can customize each program s button bar in AppleWorks to reflect your favorite buttons. This can be done for each program that you open. You can edit, remove, place dividers and close the Button Bar at any time. From the Edit Menu, select Preferences and highlight Button Bar in the sub-menu. You can also get the Contextual menu by pressing ctrl key and clicking on the button bar. Select Customize Button Bar... from the Contextual menu to open the list of Available Buttons. From the Available Buttons: window, open your program preference (General, Word Processing, Drawing, Painting, Spreadsheet, Database, or Presentation) to view buttons to customize your Button bar. To add a button to the bar, click on the button icon in the Customize Button Bar window and drag it to the button bar. Click Done when you are finished. To remove a button, press the ctrl key and click on that button in the button bar. From the Contextual menu that appears, select Remove Button. Each program has its own set of buttons for you to drag to the button bar. Click on each triangle to see your choices.
10 Remove button. Moving and Hiding the Button Bar To show the Button Bar: from the Window drop down menu select Show Button Bar. To hide the Button Bar: from the Window drop down menu select Hide Button Bar. To move the Button Bar: move your cursor across the edge of the Button Bar until you see the cursor change to a Hand tool. Click and drag your Button Bar to a new location. It will dock at the top, bottom, left and right side of your window for your convenience. To shrink or stretch your Button Bar: grab the hatch marks on either side of the bar and resize. To view more buttons: click on the arrow found at each end of the bar. The Accents Palette There are two ways to access the Accents Palette. One way is to click on (Window>Show Accents). The other way is at the bottom of the tool bar. The Accents Palette has five bottom tabs which have all the tools you need to change the fill, lines, borders, and text color of drawn objects. As with the Button Bar, you can customize the accents Palettes to reflect your preferences. Choose your icon (Fill, Pen, or Text) at the top of the Accents Palette and then choose the tab to complete your task. Each tab has its own default pop-up menu for additional choices.
11 Moving and Hiding the Tools Palette The Tool Palette contains all the draw and paint tools that you may use in your documents including a Table Creation Tool, Spreadsheet Tool, Paint Tool, and Text Tool, and Arrow Tool. This palette can be visible for quick access or hidden so that you have more of your window visible. To show the Tools Palette: from the Window drop down menu select Show Tools. To hide the Tools Palette: from the Window drop down menu select Hide Tools. To move the Tools Palette: move your cursor across the edge of the Button Bar until you see the cursor change to a Hand tool. Click and drag your Tools Palette to a new location. Use the hand tool to dock the palette at the top, bottom, left and right side of your window for your convenience. The Tools Palette may also be accessed by clicking on the red toolbox on the bottom left side of your window next to the Zoom Buttons. Shown at the bottom of the tool bar. 12 Moving and Hiding the Styles Palette To apply a special style (bullets, outline, etc.) to existing text or paragraph you will need the Styles Palette. To view this palette, select Show Styles from the Format menu in the menu bar. Highlight your selected text or paragraph and then choose your style from the palette. Choose your bullets, outline style, etc. from this table. Text tool-remember to hold your option key down to draw your text box. Arrow tool- Remember to use this when bringing in clip art to be free floating. Draw Tools Accents Palette- Use this to change text color, fill in color, make arrows, ect...
13 Create A Table Click on Table and highlight Insert table. This window will appear and you can now choose your number of rows and columns. To select a cell or cells: Click in the first cell you want to select and drag the cursor to highlight the cells. From the menu bar, you then can select the style, color and size of your font. *Tip: If you want to select adjacent cells, you can click and drag to highlight the first cell and then use your apple key to select more. To move a cell or cells: Highlight the cell or cells you want to move. Click and drag the cursor toward the destination cell or cells, then release the cursor. To insert cells: Highlight the row or column next to where you want to insert a a new row or column. On the menu bar click on Table and pull down to Insert cells.
14 To delete a table, cell, row or column: To delete a table, click on it to make handles and press the delete key. To delete a cell, row, or column, highlight the cell, row, or column and click on Table on the menu bar. Pull down to delete cells. To resize the table: Click on the table to make handles, resize the table. To change the background color: Make sure the Accents Palette is showing. Select the cells whose background you want to change. Click the Accents Palette s fill icon. Choose a color. Images, text, and photos are found in Show Clippings in the File menu. These images can be used in word processing, databases, spreadsheet and presentations. Open the Tools palette by highlighting Show Tools from the Window menu drop down. (The toolbox button to show/hide the Tool palette is in the lower left corner of your document next to the page number.) Place the cursor in the document where the graphic will be located. From the File menu, highlight Show Clippings and a Clippings palette will appear. Click and drag your image to the document. Inline Graphics Graphics Graphics may appear in your document in two ways, as floating or inline frames. Inline frames appear as part of the text and cannot be moved easily. A faint gray box outlines the graphic when it is active. A small black square is on the lower right corner. Drag this box to resize the graphic. Hold the shift key while sizing to keep the image scaled to size. Graphics can also be scaled by percent in word processing by selecting the image, and highlighting Scale by Percent... found in the Arrange Menu.
15 To move an inline frame it may be easier to repaste the image to its new location. Highlight the old image, choose Cut from the Edit menu. This will remove the old image. Place the cursor in the new spot and choose Paste from the Edit menu. Click and drag this box to resize this graphic. Hold the shift key while sizing to keep the image to scale. Floating Graphics Floating graphics are images that can be moved around freely. To create a floating frame you must click on the Arrow Tool in the Tool Palette before you paste your graphic. Now your image will have several object handles. By clicking on your image it will now drag freely to any location in your document. How to Create a Floating Graphic Choose Show Tools from the Window menu or click on the red Toolbox icon on the lower left corner of the word processing window. Click on the Arrow tool on the Tool palette. From the File Menu, choose Show Clippings. Drag your image to the desired location. If the image has several object handles (small squares) around it then it is free floating. If it has a gray box then it is an inline graphic. You MUST click on the Arrow tool to establish the floating image BEFORE you paste. Floating graphics are surrounded by object handles. By clicking in the middle of the graphic you can freely drag the image to other locations.
16 Adding Additional Clip Art to Your Clippings Palette Your favorite images can be saved and added to your AppleWorks Clippings palette. Place your image into an AppleWorks document or the scrapbook. Open the Clippings palette. Click on the tab where you want to store your image. Click on the image in the document and drag it to the palette. It will appear as a small image and be named Clipping 1. Text Tool Arrow Tool The Clippings palette displays thumbnail size views of each clip art. Click on the tabs to search different categories. Click on the arrow tab to view more choices. Just drag your image to your document to add it to your work.
17 Searching for Clip Art You can search for special clip art in two way - in your Clippings library or directly off the Internet. Apple has several FTP sites that contain over 25,000 clip art images. The Internet MUST be active or opened for a web search. Launch Safari or Internet Explorer if a web search is anticipated. Open AppleWorks. Open Show Clippings (File Menu <Show Clippings) Click on the Search tab. Animations can also be stored in your Clippings palette. When placed in a document an image of a film strip appears at the bottom of the clipping. Double click on the image to see the animation. Clippings Palette Search Deselect the Search Web Content check box. Type in your keyword and matched items will appear in the window.
18 Clippings Web Search Select the Search Web Content box. Type in your keyword. FTP will launch and matched items will appear in the window. These items are NOT saved but only viewed on your palette. Drag a selected clip art to your document. To save clip art to your palette, drag the image from your document to a designated tab on your palette. Name and click return. Add Your Own Categories to the Clippings Palette Open your Clippings palette (File Menu < Show Clippings). Use the arrow key to scroll to the last tab. Click on the + tab to open the Add Tab window. Enter a tab name and click the Add button. Keyword Items found Add details and press return.
19 Open Details by clicking on the arrow. Name your clip art and click return. Add keywords so the Clippings palette can search through your clip art for you. Click return to save all entries. You can place pic images,.jpg images and.gif images directly into your clippings palette from another folder or source. If the image is from the Internet then the details of the URL and size are automatically inserted into your Clippings details area.
20 To Access Additional Commands for Clippings Use the Contextual menu to access additional items. Hold the ctrl key down while clicking inside the Clippings palette. Highlight your choice from the menu box. Removing an Image from Your Clippings Palette Note: You will obtain two different types of Contextual menus depending on where you click when holding down the ctrl key If you click on an image and hold the ctrl key down, a different Contextual menu appears with the addition of Delete Clipping. Highlight Delete Clipping to remove the button that you selected. How to Create a Hotlink to the Internet AppleWorks lets you add two types of links to your documents. 1. Document Links 2. Internet links Internet Link: Select (highlight) the text, object, or image that you want to serve as a link. Choose the links button
21 This box will appear. Type the internet link in the URL box. Tip: Copy the address from the internet site and paste it in. To check your link, click on the underlined text and and your Web browser should launch the site. Setting the Preferences Under Edit, pull down to Preferences and choose General. You can choose Files as a topic and change these preferences. This is where you can choose your default font and size. You can also choose a date format.
22 The document will automatically save unless you uncheck this box. The documents will automatically save with a.cwk at the end unless you uncheck this box. You can choose the number of documents for recent items in this box. (Note: This should be unchecked for privacy of documents)
