RITIS Training Module 4 Script Welcome to the Regional Integrated Information System or RITIS Module 04 CBT. To begin, select the start button or press Shift+N on your keyboard. This training module will cover general navigation, viewing the help section, downloading HERE data, and using the Trend Map within the Florida Analytics section of the Regional Integrated Information System, or RITIS, website. When you first login, you will automatically be brought to the Transportation System Status tab and the Incident List section. To navigate to the Florida Analytics section, click on the Data Archive tab then click on Florida Analytics. This opens a new tab for Florida Analytics. The Florida Analytics section of RITIS is based on HERE (formerly Nokia) data. Currently, HERE powers its map with data from more than 80,000 sources, including highly precise static data captured by its 3D mapping cars and a wide array of dynamic data. More information about HERE Map Data can be found at: HERE data does not include volume or occupancy information. If you need volume and/or occupancy details, please use the main RITIS website to access FDOT detector data to download this information. To access the help section, click on Help in the upper right corner. This will open a new tab, keeping your current tab intact. To review items in the different help sections, click on the item of interest to expand the section. Clicking on a different section will collapse the previously opened section. The Help section can also be accessed while using one of the Florida Analytics Tools. While using a tool, there will be a Help icon in the upper right hand corner of the page, shown as a blue circle with a white question mark. This will open the Help section in a new tab. To download HERE data, click on Massive Data Downloader in the center section of the home screen or the icon with the large green arrow from the top left of the screen. This brings you to the screen to select the roads and time period of interest. The default Roads section is the Standard road selection section. To the right of the Florida symbol, type the road you are interested in and press the Enter key or click on the search icon to the right of the field. Typing I-10 will give you multiple options. Click on the I-10 (69 interchanges) option to select it. Once selected, the road will be highlighted in the map portion of the screen. You can zoom in or out as desired from the map section using the mouse wheel to scroll or using the plus/minus signs in the top left corner of the map. Clicking on the target site icon re-centers the map on your selection. To report an issue with the road you selected, click on Report a problem with this road. This allows you to report this issue to RITIS support. Fill out the Report a problem section and describe the problem in the section provided. Leave the box checked if you want to receive an
when the issue has been resolved. Click the Submit button to submit your issue. Click the Cancel button or the X in the upper right corner of the Report a problem window to cancel reporting an issue. You can change the color of the road by clicking on the color box to the left of the road name and selecting a new color. Only distinct traffic message channel, or TMC, codes from overlapping sections will be used in calculations and duplicates will be ignored. You can limit your selection to only one direction by unchecking a direction. To limit the selection further, change the radio button from Entire road to Partial Road. This gives you the option to select what intersection markers you want to use for the road. When you change your intersections listed in the drop down menus, the highlighted road section will update on the map as well as the number of miles of roadway selected and the number of TMC codes included. Keep in mind, the number of miles includes both directions of the road when both Eastbound and Westbound are selected. Hovering over the information icon, the blue circle icon with a white lowercase i, will give you additional information about the mileage for a roadway. If you zoom into the highlighted road section and hover over it, you will see individual TMC segments. TMC segments vary in length. A TMC segment may vary in length for the opposite direction of the same portion of a roadway. Clicking on a TMC segment allows you to remove it from the selection. There will be a separate TMC segment for each direction. You can repeat removing TMC segments as desired. To add the TMC segment back, click on the note to the right of the zoom buttons in the upper left corner of the map. You can click the Add all TMCs back button or individually add them back by highlighting the TMC you want to add by clicking on it, then clicking on the green circle with the white plus sign. You can repeat this as desired. You can continue to edit a road even when using other Road tabs by expanding the section by clicking the triangle to the right of the Road Name details. To use the advanced road selection tool, click on Advanced on the right side in the Roads box. This allows you to pick the roadway and limit it to specific counties, zip codes, road classes, and directions. Pick the counties of interest, directions, zip codes, and road classes, and type the road name. Then hit enter or click on the Search button. If you restrict a roadway to areas it does not exist, the message No roads found for road name will appear. Once the road is added, you can change the color of the road by clicking on the color box to the left of the road name and selecting a new color. To select roads by region, click on the Region tab in the Roads box. To select all roads for a county, select the county of interest and click the Add region button in the Roads box. This will add all roads in the county including available arterials within that county. Once a road is
added, you can change its color by clicking on the color box to the left of the road name and selecting a new color. If you select a region that spans more than one road, you will not be able to use the Congestion Scan tool in conjunction with the Massive Data Downloader. This notice will appear when you hover over a caution icon, the yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it, next to the region in question; for example, Region/Monroe County/ All Roads. To select specific TMC codes, click on the List of TMC codes tab in the Roads box. Type a TMC Code, that is, HERE data TMC Codes, not FDOT TMC Codes, such as in the available space. List as many TMC codes as you want separating them with commas. You will get an error message at the bottom of the Roads box noting a TMC is invalid. This error message will remain until you finish typing the valid TMC code. The same error message will appear if you type more than one TMC code without separating the codes with commas. Leaving the Auto refresh map box checked will refresh the map as you add TMC codes. Having the box checked doesn t add them until you press the Add TMC codes, but it does show their location on the map. Once you have completed the list of TMC codes, click on the Add TMC codes button. You can then expand the section to edit the TMC codes by clicking the triangle to the right of the TMC codes added. You can revise the TMC codes as desired and press the OK button. Once the TMC codes are added, you can change their color by clicking on the color box to the left of the number of TMC codes and selecting a new color.
You can save a set of TMC codes after you have entered several roadways (using Road, Region, List of TMC codes, or a combination of tabs) by clicking on the Save at TMC set button in the bottom right corner of Your selected roads box. This allows you to give the TMC code set a name for future use. There is no need to enter your name in the TMC code set name since you can sort by your address. You have the ability to keep the TMC code set private or allow others within your agency to use this newly created set. If you need to run queries frequently on complex TMC code sets, this is very useful. Once your information has been entered, click on the Save button. If you click on the Cancel button or the X in the upper right corner of the TMC set window, it will not save your TMC code set. Note: To find a specific TMC code, you could select an entire road, hover over the area of interest, and write down the TMC code you want to use in the List of TMC codes section. This can be helpful if you are only interested in one or two TMC codes on a road and they are not next to each other. Intersections could allow you to narrow a roadway segment, but only for adjacent TMC codes. Removing TMC codes individually from a roadway can be time consuming if you need to remove most of the TMC codes. To view a saved TMC code set, click on the Saved TMC Set tab in the Roads box. You can sort by Owner to find your TMC code sets quickly or sort by TMC Set. To sort by Owner, click on the Owner column. To sort by TMC code set name, click on the TMC Set column. You can filter the TMC Sets shown in the list by clicking on Filters. You can check a box to only show your TMC code sets. Additionally, you can filter further by checking the Filter by text box and typing the text you want to filter on. Once the correct TMC code set is found, double click on it to select it. To rename your TMC code set, hover over the TMC Set name and click the pencil icon; rename as desired and click the Save button. The renaming option allows you to revise the choice for making the TMC code set visible to other users within your agency or only yourself. To delete your TMC code set, hover over the TMC Set name and click the red circle icon with the minus sign. It will confirm deletion of the TMC code set. If you still want to delete the TMC code set, click on the Yes button. If you do not want to delete the TMC code set, click on the No button or the X in the upper right corner of the confirmation window. It will not allow you to delete or rename someone else s TMC code set. To remove a road, region or TMC codes in the Roads section, click on the red X to the left of the Road, Region, or TMC code. Be sure you want to remove it before clicking on the red X since you will have to repeat the selection steps to add it back. To hide a selection, such as road, region, or TMC code, click on the open eye image next to the road name, region, or TMC code you wish to hide.
To unhide a selection, click on the closed eye image next to the road name, region, or TMC code you wish to unhide. It may be helpful to hide a selection to see if there are overlaps in your selection. Keep in mind, if you select a roadway multiple times, it will appear in your data set multiple times. To identify a date range, click on the calendar icons to select the dates of interest and scroll months and years using the arrows within the calendar. Today is the default selection. The dates selected are inclusive. For example, if you select 07/27/ /31/2015 it will return five days of data. Hovering over the information icon, which is the blue circle icon with a white lowercase i, will give you another example. To add more than one date range, click on the Add another date range button. Click the calendar icons for the next range of interest. You can repeat this as many times as desired. To remove a date range, click the gray X to the right of the date you wish to remove. This can be repeated as needed. Next, you can filter out certain days of the week. The green check on each day of the week shows which days are included. The default is to include every day of the week. You must select at least one day of the week. If you are only interested in the weekend, click on each of the days for Monday through Friday to remove them from the selection. If you make an error in your selection and want to add or remove days, simply click on the day prior to submitting the data export request. Next, select the time of day. The default is all day. If you limit the time of day from 6am to 7am and run the query for an entire month, you will only receive data for each day from 6am to 7am. If you select a time period in the current day that has not occurred yet, the files will be empty. So if you select today with a time period of all day and it is 10am, you will only have data up to 10am in your data export files. The system allows you to add multiple time periods. To add another time period, click on the Add another time of day button and use the drop down menus to change the hour, minutes, and AM/PM as needed. This can be repeated as desired. The default time period will be all day for each time period you add. To remove a time period, click on the gray X to the right of the time period you wish to remove. Next, select your data source. The default selection is HERE data. If you have questions about available data fields, click on the help icon, which is the blue circle with a white question mark, to the right of the Data Sources, Fields, and Quality header. This will open a new tab for the Help section of the Florida Analytics Tools and expand the Vendor-Provided Data section. Only HERE data is available in Florida Analytics. Selecting another data type listed will return empty files. Check or uncheck the fields desired as needed. You can hover over the information icon, the blue circle icon with a white lowercase i, next to the Confidence checkbox to give you
details on data confidence values and what is included in each range. To select what confidence values are included, adjust the quality threshold ruler by dragging the endpoints to the selected range. The default is all data, which includes confidence values from 0 to 1 and values where Confidence could not be calculated. The increment for the quality threshold ruler is You can hover over the information icon, blue circle icon with a white lowercase i, next to the option to include values where Confidence could not be calculated to see that the confidence for these will be blank in the files exported. Since we only have one data source available to us, the download format section does not need to be changed. The default selection is All data sources in one CSV, or comma-separated values, file. If we had another data source, we could change the selection to One CSV file per data source. Changing to this option will not affect the data files you receive. If you select another data source other than HERE, the TMC Identification file for the other sources will have the standard information in it and the associated data file will have headers, but no data. To average the data provided, change the option from Don t average to one of the other options provided. You can hover over the information icon, the blue circle icon with a white lowercase i, next to the Averaging header to see the time associated with an average is the beginning of the window averaged. For example, in a 1-hour average, the reported speed for 7:00 PM will be the average of each reading taken between 7:00 PM and 7:59:59 PM. You have the option to enter a Description for your export. If you do not enter a description in this section, a default description will be created. If you are running several similar queries consecutively, a detailed Description is recommended so you can differentiate between them. If you would like an notification when your request is ready to download, leave the Notification box checked. If you uncheck the Notification box, you can review the status of your export by clicking on the Data Exports button in the upper right corner of the page. Your exports remain available here for one week. The exact date your export will no longer be available would be sent via the notification, when checked, but the Data exports button does not provide that information. Since large requests take longer to process, it is recommended to receive an notification when your export is ready to download. After all your selections have been made, click on the Submit download request. If the Submit download request button is grayed out instead of blue, you need to make a selection in the Roads section. Since there are default values for all other fields, the Roads section is the only section that needs to be filled out to be able to submit your request.
If you selected to receive an notification when your data export is available for download, you will receive an with the details of your request and a link to access the data. The will also include the last day the export will be available. If you are already logged into Florida Analytics, you will notice a window appears near the Data exports button notifying you that Your data export is available for download. You have the option to download the data now by clicking on the Download Now button. If you want to download your data later, you can click the Download Later button. This window will appear even if you requested an be sent to notify you when the export was available to download. Clicking on the Download Now button will open a new tab and a pop-up window will ask if you want to Open or save the files. Click on the Open button to open the files or the Save button to save the files to your computer. If you wish to save the files, there is a drop down next to the Save button that gives you the option to save, save as, or save and open. Simply clicking on the Save button will save the files to your Downloads folder. Another option will appear to Open the files, Open folder, or View downloads. Selecting the Save As option allows you to choose another file location. If you choose the Save As option, remember to use a.zip extension after the file name. There will be three files in the zip folder. A notepad file named Contents contains the details of your request including the fields requested, data source, road information, date and time, and confidence criteria. A CSV file named Readings contains the data requested and the TMC codes associated with each reading. The TMC codes in the Readings file maps to the tmc field in the TMC_Identification CSV file. The TMC_Identification file contains the road name, direction, intersection, county, segment length in miles, and other identifying information. If you return to the Massive Data Downloader tab, you will notice that the window giving you options to download data now or later is gone. To access all of your Massive Data Downloader data requests from the past week, click on the Data exports button in the upper right corner. A description of each request is listed, followed by the date and time it was requested and when that request was completed. There are two check boxes in the upper right corner that allow you to show pending requests and expired requests. You will not be able to download expired requests. Expired requests will remain available to view in this list for one year. You will not be able to download pending requests until they have been completed. To download previous requests, check the box next to the Description of interest, then click on Download selected.
If you are unsure which items you did or did not already download, hover over the Description to see if you have previously downloaded a file. If you have several requests and are unsure which items you did or did not already download, click on the drop down menu next to the Download selected button. This allows you to select All, None, Undownloaded, or Previously downloaded. Click on the item of interest to automatically update your selected files for download. To sort this list, click on the column of interest. To close the Data Exports window, click on the X in the upper right corner. To return to the Florida Analytics main page, click on Florida Analytics Tools in the upper left corner of the page. This concludes the Regional Integrated Information System or RITIS Module 04 CBT.
