Inspect each item. If any visible damage is present, contact your supplier for a replacement. Verify that your order is complete. What you need Although each security system installation is different, most require the following items not included with your system components: Cameras and cables compatible with the DVR. The VIDEO INPUT connectors on the back panel support analog cameras. Check the Specifications section of this guide for more information. IP cameras installed on the Ethernet network (LAN) associated with the DVR must be compatible. Check the Specifications section of this guide for more information. Tools to install the cameras and route power and video cables Fasteners to attach the cameras to the mounting surfaces, calking VGA or HDMI compatible computer monitor to connect to the DVR. Un-interuptable power supply (UPS) is recommended. This UPS is used to ensure system stability during voltage surges, sags, and outages. If a UPS is not available, a power strip with strong surge protection is highly recommended. Step 2. Install the DVR HDD Installation If your DVR was purchased without an HDD, or you want to add an additional HDD or replace one, follow the guidelines shown here. The HDD installation should be performed before using your DVR. For lasting performance and reliability, install only security grade HDDs in your DVR. The chassis is designed to accommodate both 3.5 inch and 2.5 inch HDDs, with an HDD capacity up to 8 TB. CAUTION Before performing this procedure, ensure that the power cord is not disconnected from the DVR. Enter Observint Technologies, Inc. All rights reserved.
The example shown here is for an R16 DVR. To install an HDD: 1. Lay the DVR on a clean, flat table, and then remove the five cover screws shown in the picture below on the left. CAUTION Do not apply power to the DVR at this time. Step 3. Connect devices to the DVR Your DVR security system is highly configurable to meet your application requirements. The diagram below illustrates how the DVR can be interconnected to various devices. Refer to the Specifications section for more information about the capacity of your DVR. Internet cloud 2. Always follow the installation instructions provided with the camera. 1. Install the analog cameras that will connect to the VIDEO INPUT connectors on the back of the DVR. 2. Route video / power extension cable(s) between the cameras and the DVR. Note that power connectors on some extension cables are different: the power connector at the camera is a male style connector, and the power connector at the source (usually DVR) is a female style connector. 3. Connect the extension cable(s) to the camera and the DVR. 1. Place the DVR in a location that is secure, well ventilated and clean. The DVR should be positioned such that the back panel connectors are accessible and the ventilation holes on the top and sides are not blocked. 2. Connect the ground terminal (if available) on the back of the DVR to an earth ground. Refer to local electrical codes for proper grounding. Install a monitor, mouse, microphones, network, power etc For the following steps, refer to the back panel photo above for the location of connectors. 1. Install and setup your monitor in accordance with the instructions provided with the monitor. Do not power it on at this time Observint Technologies, Inc. All rights reserved.
NOTE Some monitors have multiple inputs such including VGA,HDMI, BNC, etc. If you are using this kind of monitor, configure your monitor to display the input connected to your DVR (HDMI or VGA). 2. Cable the HDMI or VGA connector to your monitor s HDMI or VGA input. The HDMI interface provides the best performance. 3. Plug the mouse provided into the USB connector on the front or back of the DVR. 4. If using microphones with your cameras, install the microphones where needed, and then plug the microphone extension cables into the AUDIO INPUT RCA connectors on the back of your DVR. 5. Plug a drop cable from your local area network (LAN) router into the RJ45 LAN connector on the back of the DVR. 6. If using speakers, plug your speaker set into the AUDIO OUT RCA connector on the back of the DVR. The AUDIO OUT connector provides a line level signal output. An audio adapter may be needed to connect your speaker set to the DVR RCA connector. 7. If using an RS485 network to control a PTZ camera or other device, cable the RS485 terminations on the back of the DVR to your network. The DVR must be configured for the RS485 network you connect to the DVR and the device(s). 8. Connect the power cord with the 12 Vdc power adapter, and then connect the power adapter to the 12 V(DC) power connector on the back panel of the DVR, and then into a UPS (recommended) or surge protector. Power on the system 1. Apply power to your power adapter to power on the DVR. If the DVR has a power switch, also set the power switch to on. 2. Apply power to the monitor. 3. Apply power to your cameras and microphones. 4. If using a speaker set, apply power to your speakers. 1. In the screen shown above, enter your admin password in the New Admin Password and Confirm Password fields (see below). Ensure that the Password Strength of your password is at least Medium (preferably Strong). NOTE If you forget your password, you will be unable to login the system, please contact your vendor to reset the password. Step 4. Using the Wizard for basic configuration setup When the DVR powers on, a SYSTEM INITIALIZING splash screen normally appears within 3 minutes. An a system activation screen will appear. Activation If it is the first time powering on the recorder, an activation screen will appear. You must use this menu to setup an admin password for the system, and an Unlock Pattern, if preferred, for quickly accessing the configuration menus if the recorder. 2. If you want to use an Unlock Pattern to access the configuration menus, open the Unlock Enable drop down list, and then click Enable. Click Apply to continue. 3. Click the Draw button to open the Set Unlock Pattern window. 4. In the Set Unlock Pattern window, drag the mouse cursor across a pattern of circles, then release the mouse Observint Technologies, Inc. All rights reserved.
5. Repeat the pattern you entered, and then click Apply to save the configuration. The configuration Wizard initial screen will open. Using the Wizard for initial configuration Use the Wizard to setup the basic configuration of your system. Advanced configuration options are available in the Setup menus. Refer to the firmware user manual (to be provided) for your recorder for more information. 1. When the initial Wizard window appears, click Start Wizard to continue. 2. The next Wizard screen is used to configure the network settings of the recorder. Initially, the recorder acquires network using DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Processor) which usually exists somewhere on your LAN. DHCP provides network settings that are compatible with other devices on your LAN. a. It is preferred to have fixed network settings instead of dynamic settings, however. To change from dynamic network settings to fixed settings, copy the settings found through DHCP for the Local Connection and DNS, uncheck the DHCP select box near the top of the menu, then re-enter the DHCP Local Connection and DNS settings. You can also enter your own network settings for the recorder (these must be compatible with other devices on the LAN). If you choose to enter your own network parameters, consider the following: IP Address: The IP address identifies the DVR in the network. It consists of four groups of numbers between 0 to 255, separated by periods. For example, Subnet Mask: Subnet mask is a network parameter which defines a range of IP addresses that can be used in a network. If IP address is like a street where you live then subnet mask is like a neighborhood. The subnet address also consists of four groups of numbers, separated by periods. For example, Gateway: This address allows the DVR to access the Internet. The format of the Gateway address is the same as the IP Address. For example, DNS1/DNS2: DNS1 is the primary DNS server and DNS2 is a backup DNS server. Usually should be enough just to enter the DNS1 server address. b. You can also configure the ports the DVR. If you need to change the port numbers of your DVR, consider the following: Web Port: This is the port that you will use to log in remotely to the DVR (e.g. using the Web Client). If the default port 80 is already taken by other applications, please change it. Client Port: This is the port that the DVR will use to send information through (e.g. using the mobile app). If the default port 9000 is already taken by other applications, please change it. RTSP Port: This is the port that the DVR will be allowed to transmit real-time streaming to other device (e.g. using a streaming Media player.). HTTPS: HTTPS is the secure version of HTTP, the protocol over which data is sent between your browser and the website that you are connected to. If you want to log in remotely to the NVR using Web Client, you need to complete the port forwarding in your router. The default port number is
PPPoE: PPPoE is an advanced protocol that allows the DVR to connect to the network more directly via DSL modem. Check the Enable PPPOE box, and then enter the User name and Password of the PPPoE. c. Click Next to continue. 3. Use the Date/Time menu to set the Date, Time, Date Format, Time Format, Time Zone, NTP and DST (daylight savings time). a. When changing parameters in the Date and Time tab, consider the following: Date: Click on the calendar icon to set the system date. Time: Click to set the system time. Date Format: Choose from the drop down menu to set preferred date format. Time Format: Choose time format between 24-hour and 12-hour. Time Zone: Set the correct time zone. If changing the DST settings, consider the following: DST: Enable if Daylight Saving Time (DST) is observed in your region. Time Offset: Select the amount of time to offset for DST Time Mode: Choose to set the daylight saving time in weeks or in days Start Time/End Time: Set the start time and end time for daylight saving. 4. Click Next to continue. 5. In the Disk menu, you can configure how your disk (HDD) will be used. The Overwrite (Auto) feature enables you to always keep a previous, optional number of days of data written to the HDD when the disk becomes full, and Format initializes the HDD for use in the recorder and erases all data on the disk. If you installed HDDs in your recorder, it is strongly advised to format these drives before using your recorder. b. Click the NTP tab. To use a Network Time server to automatically set the date and time in your recorder, check the Enable NTP box, and then select a Server Address from the drop down list. Click Update Now to acquire the current Date and Time information. c. Click the DST (Daylight Savings Time) tab. Setup the values in the DST menu to match your local DST custom, if preferred. a. To configure the HDD for Overwrite: i. Check the select box for the HDD you want to configure from the list above. ii. Open the Overwrite drop down list, and then select Auto. 6
b. To format an HDD: i. Check the select box for the HDD you want to Format from the list above. ii. 6. Click Next to continue. Click the Format button.
