3 Safety rules NORMALAB NDI 450 distillation unit is a high quality instrument. The recommendations and instructions in this document will allow you to update your instrument. Make sure you read and understand this guide. Keep it close to the instrument so you can consult it easily. General characteristics The distillation unit is offering two microprocessor cards. One computer board under Windows XP Embedded operating system for Man Machine Interaction (MMI software). And other computer board under Free-Dos operating system for instrument process (For convenience, we call this software "firmware"). To ensure this equipment provides the reliable prolonged service for which it was designed, we emphasize the importance of updating or upgrading the MMI software and the firmware on regular bases. Content of new version A new version includes adjustments, new improvements to features and services in NDI450 software. This update replaces your current version of NDI450 software, and keeps your files and settings in place in your instrument. You can check the new adjustments and features here: What's new.pdf How to get a new version The recommended (and easiest) way to get NDI450 new software is to download on Normalab Website. Download and save the appropriate files for your instrument from the Normalab NDI450 Download Center: 3

4 How to know the software version The MMI ID software version and the firmware ID version are visible in the toolbar on the main screen. Versions are also visible in the Command shell page with the command ver. Important recommendations - Make a new backup of MMI software before starting an update. - Please always check the software or firmware version before starting an update. - Never update your instrument with a previous version than the installed one. - Be sure your new version is compatible with your instrument. Please contact us for confirmation. An incorrect installation can involve a dysfunction of the unit, company NORMALAB France SAS could not be responsible for incorrect installation of software or firmware done by your side on this equipment. Check any virus present in your USB pen before attach it to your NDI450 instrument. 4

5 Additional requirements to update your NDI450 instrument - 1 Computer with Internet access (fees may apply). - 1 USB flash/pen/key/stick drive (Don t use the USB flash drive supplied with your instrument). - 1 Ethernet cable for update the firmware (It s supplied with your instrument). Prepare your USB flash drive for updating (video example) - Plug-in the USB flash drive to computer - Open the drive letter assigned to the USB flash drive by looking at the list of drives in window explorer. - Create a new folder named Update (if not exist). - Extract and copy the NDI450 new version into the Update folder. The file named MMI_X_XX.NDI is the update version for the MMI software. The version number of the new software is X_XX. The file named FIR_Y_YY.NDI is the update version for the firmware. The version number of the new firmware is Y_YY. - Unplug the USB flash drive from the computer. 5

6 Install a new MMI version using the Update option (video example) - After NDI450 software has started, check the version of the MMI software before starting an update. - Plug-in the USB flash drive to your instrument. Software should detect automatically your USB flash drive. - On the Software setup page, click Software update. - On the Software update page, click Load the updates list. 6

7 7 - Select the new MMI software MMI_X_ XX and click Install update.

8 - When you see "Welcome to the setup wizard", check the new version and click "next". If you abort with Cancel button, the NDI450 software does not restart and it will be necessary to reboot your instrument with the main ON/OFF switch. - The new MMI software will be installed automatically. 8

9 9 - At the end of the wizard, check that "Start the program" is checked. If not checked, the NDI450 software does not restart and it will be necessary to reboot your instrument with the main ON/OFF switch. Click Done to close the wizard.

10 10 - The new MMI software will restart automatically.

11 Install a new firmware version using the Update option (video example) - After NDI450 software has started, check the version of the firmware before starting an update. - Check the connection of the Ethernet cable at the rear of your unit. If this cable is not present, please shutdown the unit and connect the Ethernet cable between the "Network" and "Update". - Plug-in the USB flash drive to your instrument. Software should detect automatically your USB flash drive. - On the Software setup page, click Software update. 11

12 12 - On the Software update page, click Load the updates list.

13 - Select the new firmware FIR_Y_ YY and click Install update. - The new firmware will be installed automatically. - After the update, microprocessor card will restart. Thank you for your patience (around 70 seconds). 13

14 - When the firmware is restarted, click Ok. - Check the new version and click "Ok". - The NDI450 software will restart automatically. Error messages Cannot update firmware, configuration file not found: technical services. The settings file is not found. Please contact Cannot update firmware, communication problem (0x01): Communication with the serial cable between the two microprocessor cards is not working. Please contact technical services. Cannot update firmware, Network configuration problem (0x01): Network addresses conflict between the two microprocessor cards. Check the connection of the Ethernet cable at the rear of your unit. If this cable is not present, please shutdown the unit and connect the Ethernet cable between the "Network" and "Update". Cannot update firmware, network communication problem (0x02): The update file cannot be copied to the microprocessor card. Please contact technical services. Firmware restart problem, Windows will stop automatically. Please restart manually the instrument: The microprocessor card did not restart automatically. It is necessary to reboot your instrument with the main ON/OFF switch when the screen authorizes you to power off your unit. 14
