3 SUMMARY The system has been setup to have very flexible equipment tagging that can cope with a large variety of tagging systems. The LA Design Systems tagging system allows for:- Multiply tag formats in a project database. Separate tag formats for each type of equipment. A full tag format for use in the database and a short tag format for reporting. Tag Items can be renamed without loss of data. Parts of the tag can be arranged in any order. A selection of separators can be used between tag parts. Full Tag Numbers can be up to 40 characters. Tag parts can be up to 8 characters each. OVERVIEW OF TAG FORMATS TAG FORMATS Each instrument tag number is made up of five parts. These five parts can be joined together in any pattern. Each part can be separated by several different characters. The tag pattern can be saved and used to create new tag items with the same format. It is possible to have several tag formats in any project. The tag format will determine the following The order of the tag parts. Which tag parts are to be displayed. What separator character is used between each tag part. Which tag part separators is to be display. The following is a summary of the tag parts used for each type of equipment. INSTRUMENTATION 1. 4 ELECTRICAL 1. Complex code 2. Complex area code 3. Electrical type description code MAJOR EQUIPMENT 1. Complex code 2. Equipment Type code 3. Service description code The data for the tag data codes can be entered via menu options in the setup tab. FULL AND SHORT TAGS There are two tag numbers create when a new item is created. These are :- 1. Full Tag No This uses all tag parts and is used as the normal display item in the database 2. Short Tag No. This is the tag number that is normally displayed on a field device or report. The tag format for the full and short tags can be completely different. INSTRUMENT TAG NUMBERS In addition to the two above tag numbers an instrument tag will have two additional tag numbers. These are:- 1. System Tag No. This is the tag number used in a control system or computer database 2. Loop ID This is a ID to group several related tags together. The system tag and LoopID tag formats can be different. The tag type drop down list has additional functions. When the instrument tag type is selected the program will read data from the "instrumenttype" table. It will use data in this table to create an IO type and loop ID code. SELECTING A TAG FORMAT Once a tag format has been created it can be used to create a new tag item. The tag format will determine the order of the parts and which parts and separators are to be used to create the new tags. There is a drop down list of all available tag formats per tag type on the ribbon bar. The selected tag format will be used to create all new tags until a new one is selected. 5 CREATING A NEW TAG FORMAT New tag formats can be created via the Design program Setup tab. The ribbon bar has a button for each equipment type tag format. When the desired tag format button is clicked a form will be displayed with all the tag formats for that tag type. New formats can be created if required. Existing tag formats can be changed. All changes only apply to tags created after the changes. It is possible to turn on or off different parts of the tag and the separators between the parts. Each part can be dragged and dropped into a new sequence. Once a tag format has been created it is best to make a new format rather than edit the existing tag format. Tags are creating using the selected tag format. If the tag format is edited it will only affect new tags that are created and not the existing tag items. Friday, 2 November 2012 Page 5 of 6

6 It is not possible to delete tag formats. When a tag item is created the tag format is stored with the tag item so it can be renamed if required. If the tag format was deleted it will not be possible to rename a tag item. It is best to make the required tag formats at the start of the project. SETUP TAG PART DATA The items in the drop down lists used to create a tag number can be edited in the setup section of the Design program. There are menu options for Instrument, Electrical, piping and mechanical (major equipment) tags. The complex and site codes are common to all tags types. Friday, 2 November 2012 Page 6 of 6
