1 AXIPCL UP ipod /AUXILIARY INTERFACE FOR SELECT GM CLASS 2 VEHICLES The AXIPCL2 interface is designed to allow you to connect, charge and control your ipod in select CLASS II GM cars, vans and SUVs. The interface will work with most factory GM radios including: navigation radios (touch-screen and non-touch styles), non-navigation CD and CD/cassette combination radios. The AXIPCL2 also provides a direct RCA line input to the factory stereo for other accessories such as DVD players or video gaming systems. Please read this manual before beginning. This Scosche product is sold with the understanding that the purchaser has independently determined the suitability of this product. This warranty is offered to the original purchaser of the product only. This warranty does not cover the product if physically damaged, subject to negligence or misuse, abuse, alteration, accident, or an act of GOD. This warranty does not apply to product which has water or physically damaged by accident or which has been misused, disassembled or altered. This is done by accessing Apple s web site: PREVENTING DAMAGE TO YOUR VEHICLE OR ipod Before beginning your installation we recommend disconnecting the negative terminal on your battery. Also be sure to know the security code to your factory radio. Disconnect your ipod when not in use to preserve battery life. Do not plug in your ipod until the initialization process is complete. Please see OPERATION section for more details. PROPER MOUNTING LOCATION Securely install the interface in a location free from heat, humidity, moving parts, sharp metal edges and direct sunlight. Secure the interface to a suitable location using double sided tape, velcro, or wire ties. COMPATIBILITY NOTES This section will tell you of the specific requirements for your factory radio to be compatible with the AXIPCL2. These notes will inform you of any issues or circumstances that can affect the compatibility of our product with your radio, audio system, or accessories. Not all factory radios are compatible with the AXIPCL2. The AXIPCL2 will only work on models equipped with the specifications listed below. Please read and understand these notes before proceeding. RADIO REQUIREMENTS Radios must have a CD and/or tape player and must be XM compatible or CD changer ready. This indicates that the required connection is present on the rear of the head unit and that the radio has the necessary functionality to operate the AXIPCL2. HARNESS SELECTION The harness used is determined by whether or not your vehicle has an OEM Satellite tuner installed. If the vehicle has an XM tuner installed, use the AXIPCL2 harness. If the radio is CD changer ready, with or without a CD changer use the AXIPCL2 harness. If the vehicle is XM ready WITHOUT an XM tuner installed use the AXIPCL2 harness. If a factory CD changer is present the AXIPCL2 does not retain the factory CD-Changer. If you do not have one of these harnesses please contact Scosche Tech Support. Carefully remove the radio from the dash of the vehicle. 2. Plug the male 12-pin connector of the AXIPCL2 harness into the female 12-pin port on the back of the radio. Next connect the factory male 12-pin connector into the female 12-pin connector on the AXIPCL2 harness. If the vehicle has an external factory 6 disc CD-changer present, the AXIPCL2 will NOT retain the factory 6 disc CD-changer. 3. Make all necessary power connections. Yellow: connect to 12V+ constant power. Black: connect to the vehicle s chassis ground. 4. Optional Connections: Red: retains accessory power (RAP). Provides 12V(+) accessory power after the vehicle is turned off up to 10 minutes, or until the drivers door is open. 5. Connect the 8-pin molex connector on the ipod docking cable to the AXIPCL2 interface. (DO NOT CONNECT ipod AT THIS TIME, WAIT UNTIL INITIALIZATION IS COMPLETE). 6. Plug the male 24-pin connector of the AXIPCL2 harness into the AXIPCL2 interface. XM TUNER INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS 1. Locate the factory XM tuner, remove any panels if necessary to access XM tuner s 16-pin harness. Unplug the 16-pin harness from the XM tuner. 2. Plug the male 16-pin end of the AXIPCL2 harness into the 16-pin port on the XM tuner. Next connect the factory male 16-pin into the female 16-pin connector on the AXIPCL2 harness. If the vehicle has an external factory 6 disc CD-changer present, the AXIPCL2 will NOT retain the factory 6 disc CDchanger. 3. Optional Connections: Red: retains accessory power (RAP). Provides 12V(+) accessory power after the vehicle is turned off up to 10 minutes, or until the driver s door is open. 4. Connect the 8-pin molex connector on the ipod docking cable to the AXIPCL2 interface. (DO NOT CONNECT IPOD AT THIS TIME, WAIT UNTIL INITIALIZATION IS COMPLETE). 5. Plug the male 24-pin connector of the AXIPCL2 harness into the AXIPCL2 interface. 3

4 OPERATION INITIALIZATION Once you have completed the installation of your AXIPCL2 interface, it is important to allow the factory stereo time to recognize the new device. This initialization period occurs when the key is first turned-on, and lasts for just about 5 to 10 seconds. A green LED located at the top of the AXIPCL2 will flash during initialization. ONCE THE LIGHT TURNS SOLID GREEN THE INITIALIZATION IS COMPLETE. (NOTE: YOU MAY NOT SEE THE GREEN LIGHT FLASH) Please do not press any buttons until initialization is complete, or you will need to start the initialization process over again by disconnecting and reconnecting the 24-pin plug from the AXIPCL2 and waiting through the initialization period. CONTROL OVERVIEW This will explain how to control the ipod from your factory radio in advanced mode, in manual mode and auxiliary input mode. Note: all factory steering wheel controls remain functional and operate the same as the corresponding buttons on the radio. Ex: ( ) on the steering wheel controls will function the same as pressing ( ) on the radio. 6 OPERATION Accessing the AXIPCL2 Interface Press the button on the radio until the display shows XM1, this is the source where you will be able to control the ipod. Switching Between ipod/auxiliary and XM (If equipped) Press the PRESET # 1 to switch between ipod, Auxiliary and XM (if equipped) inputs on the interface. NOTE: Once the interface is plugged in, PRESET # 1 becomes a switch between ipod, Auxiliary, and XM while on the XM bands. PRESETS 2-6 can be used to store channels on all XM bands. All presets remain functional on AM/FM bands. Manual Mode Press PRESET # 6 until 5 TO MANUAL is displayed, then press PRESET #. The ipod will now be controllable using the click wheel controls. Advanced Mode Press PRESET # 6 until 4 TO NAV IPOD is displayed, then press PRESET # 4. This will allow control of the ipod from the factory radio. The ipod controls will be locked and the display on the ipod will show (check mark) on the screen. Accessing Menu Options Press the PRESET #6 BUTTON to switch between menu options, which are: Select Playlist, Select Artist, Select Album, Select Genre, & Advanced or Manual ipod Control Mode. Menu Down Press the PRESET # 3 to move down one folder in the menu. Menu UP Press the PRESET # 4 to move up one folder in the menu. Select Menu Option Press the PRESET # 5 to make a selection while navigating the menu. Next Track Turn the TUNE KNOB clockwise (right) to go forward a track. NOTE: If the radio does not have a Tune Knob but has a TUNE/ press TUNE/ two times quickly to go forward a track Previous Track Turn the TUNE KNOB counter-clockwise (left) to go backward a track. NOTE: If the radio does not have a Tune Knob but has a TUNE/ press TUNE/ two times quickly to go backward a track. button, button, Fast Forward Press button once to Fast Forward; press button again to resume play. 7 OPERATION Artist To browse by artist, press PRESET #6 until Sel Artst shows on the radio display. Use PRESET #3 and PRESET #4 to move up and down through the list of artists. Press PRESET #5 to select the artist. Use the TUNE KNOB to move up and down through the tracks. Album To browse by album, press PRESET #6 until Sel Album shows on the radio display. Use PRESET #3 and PRESET #4 to move up and down through the list of albums. Press PRESET #5 to select the album displayed on the screen. Use the TUNE KNOB to move up and down through the tracks. Genre To browse by genre, press PRESET #6 until Sel Genre shows on the radio display. Use PRESET #3 and PRESET #4 to move up and down through the list of genres. Press PRESET #5 to select the genre displayed on the screen. Use the TUNE KNOB to move up and down through the tracks. Playlist To browse by artist, press PRESET #6 until Sel Artst shows on the radio display. Use PRESET #3 and PRESET #4 to move up and down through the list of artists. Press PRESET #5 to select the artist displayed on the screen. Use the TUNE KNOB to move up and down through the tracks. Display Most GM radios will display ipod text automatically, which typically includes the song title and artist name. The text displayed will be determined by what is stored on the ipod. If the radio has an INFO button (typically found on non- Navigation radios); press INFO to switch through text display options like song title and artist name. Most Navigation radios feature multiple line displays which show artist name and track at the same time. Demonstration Mode Press the PRESET #2 to enter Demonstration Mode. The AXIPCL2 has a tutorial feature that can be used as a reminder of how the PRESETS #1 through #6 are used to access ipod functions. To reveal the demonstration information press PRESET # 2 multiple times to show the button number and the corresponding function. 7
