ESTABLISH A SAFE SOUND LEVEL Over time your hearing will adapt to continuous loud sounds and will give the impression that the volume has in fact been reduced. What seems normal to you may in fact be harmful To guard against this BEFORE YOUR HEARING ADAPTS set the volume at a low level. Slowly increase the level until you can hear comfortably and clearly and without distortion. Damage to your hearing is accumulative and is irreversible Any ringing or discomfort in the ears indicates that the volume is too loud. 3 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS GCD524R PORTABLE CD PLAYER CAUTION Use of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures other than those specified herein may result in hazardous radiation exposure. This compact disc player is classified as a CLASS 1 LASER product. For safety Do not attempt to disassemble this unit. Laser rays from the optical pickup are dangerous to the eyes Make sure that pins or other foreign objects do not get inside the player Take care not to drop the unit or subject it to strong shocks To keep dust from the pickup lens, keep the disc compartment lid closed after use. Never touch the lens If you hear no sound when playing a disc, DO NOT turn the volume up high because the music could suddenly begin at high volume. 4 USING NON-RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES A Open the battery compartment and insert two LR6 (size AA) alkaline batteries with the + and marks correctly aligned. Battery replacement Replace the batteries when symbol appears in the display. If the unit remains in use after the display appears the player will stop. Using on dry cell batteries Do not mix different types of batteries, or an old battery with a new one To prevent the risk of electrolyte leakage or explosions. never recharge the batteries, apply heat to them, or take them apart, When using non-rechargeable batteries make sure the recharge switch is set to the off position When not using batteries, remove them to preserve their life If liquid leaks from the batteries, wipe thoroughly to remove USING RECHARGE- ABLE BATTERIES B Be sure to use size AA Ni-Cd or Ni-MH rechargeable batteries. which are commercially available Be sure to read the instructions of the rechargeable batteries before use Before charging the batteries, close the disc compartment, batteries cannot be charged whilst the lid is open 1. Insert the rechargeable batteries with the + and marks correctly aligned. 2. When recharging please switch the recharge switch to "on", after recharging switch to "off", otherwise the CD player may be damaged After charging, disconnect the AC adaptor.(not supplied) Recharge the batteries when symbol appears, If the unit remains in use after symbol appears, the player will stop. 5 BEFORE PLAYBACK HOLD switch C Slide the HOLD switch to OFF position before playback. When not using the unit, set the HOLD switch to the ON position, when the HOLD switch is the on position the buttons will not function and the unit will not turn on accidentally If buttons are pressed "HOLD" will show on the display. Turn the power on Press PLAY. Power is turned on and playback starts. Turning off the power If no buttons are pressed within 30 seconds after the CD is stopped. the power is turned off automatically.(auto power off function)to turn off the power manually press the stop button. Standby mode D When playback finishes, the unit goes into standby mode until the auto power off function turns off the power. To enter standby mode, press PLAY to start playback, then press STOP Adjusting the Volume D Rotnte the VOLUME control to adjust the volume 1. RECHARGE During battery charging the RECHARGE LED illuminates. when charging has finished the RECHARGE LED will turn off. 2. Recharge time is 15 hours.. Place a disc on the centre capstan with the label side facing up. 3.Close the disc compartment. To remove the disc F Pick up the disc, holding its edge, while pressing the centre gently. F 4

6 PLAYBACK G Connect the supplied headphones to the PHONE socket. 1.Slide HOLD switch to OFF position. 2.Insert a disc. 3.Press PLAY Playback starts from the first track. BASIC OPERATION To stop: Press STOP To play: Press PLAY To pause playback: Press PAUSE To resume playback press again. To skip to the beginning of a track: Press skip + or skip - To locate a desired passage: press and hold skip + or skip -. Release the button at the start of desired passage. G MODE button: REPEAT ONE: " 1 " will be shown in the display and the current track will be repeated REPEAT ALL : " ALL" will be shown in the display and all tracks will be repeated INTRO "INTRO" will be shown in the display The first 10 seconds of each track will be played No: If no disc, has been inserted or disc has be inserted upside down " NO" will shown in the display. RANDOM Button : "RAND" shows in the display Plays all tracks on the disc at random order PROGRAM: 1. Press PROGRAM button, "PROGRAM 01"will flash in the display 2. Press skip - or skip+ key to select the track no. 3. W hen desired track is located, press PROGRAM key to store into memory 4. Repeat 2-3 (up to 24 tracks) after 24 tracks have been stored the display shows the first stored track. 5. Press play button PROG stops flashing and starts playing. 6. To clear programing, press the STOP button OFF HOLD ON PLAY 5

7 CONNECTION TO AN EXTERNAL UNIT H Use a cable with 3.5mm stereo plug at one end two phono plugs at the other end.(not supplied) connect the stereo plug to the LINE OUT socket of the unit and connect the phono plugs to the analogve input (AUX) terminals of the external unit. NOTE Turn off the power of both units before making connections. DO NOT connect to the PHCNO inputs of an amplifier Adjust the volume and BASS BOOST on the CD player. MAINTENANCE To clean the lens I If the lens become dirty, the player will skip or not play, If this occurs, clean the lens in the following. manner, To remove dust or dust particles, first use a camera lens blower/brush 1 to blow a few times to loosen particles, then gently brush the lens 2 clean finish by blowing the lens again.
