3 Motorola Droid X Camera Replacement Step 1 Rear Case Objective: remove the rear case from the Motorola Droid X phone. This is what the Motorola Droid X looks like before disassembly. In the front, there is a large LCD touch screen. Step 2 ifixit CC BY-NC-SA INSTRUCTION: Turn the phone over so that the back faces up. Page 3 of 24

4 Motorola Droid X Camera Replacement Step 3 Objective: remove the battery casing plate. The case plate has a push and slide mechanism. Step 4 ifixit CC BY-NC-SA INSTRUCTION 1: Push on the upper side of the casing located under the camera lens. INSTRUCTION 2: Slide down the battery case plate. Page 4 of 24

5 Motorola Droid X Camera Replacement Step 5 INSTRUCTION: Insert your finger tips into the edges of the opening and pull the casing off. Objective: remove the battery from the battery compartment. Step 6 ifixit CC BY-NC-SA Page 5 of 24

6 Step 7 INSTRUCTION: Grab the red tab that says "Battery Release" and slowly lift it up. This will remove the battery. Step 8 Objective: remove two small black screws from the back of the phone. These two (2) screws help hold the phone together. They need to be removed by a Phillips Hex 2mm screwdriver, ifixit CC BY-NC-SA Page 6 of 24

7 Step 9 INSTRUCTION: Remove two black screws from the back of the phone. Step 10 Objective: remove the two plastic pieces in front of the phone - they cover the remaining screws. The two plastic pieces are clipped onto the phone as covers. They are located at the top and the bottom of the phone. ifixit CC BY-NC-SA Page 7 of 24

8 Step 11 INSTRUCTION: Flip the phone over to the front side. Step 12 INSTRUCTION: Use the ifixit tool as a crowbar to pry the top plastic cover piece off of the phone. It will pop off. ifixit CC BY-NC-SA Page 8 of 24

9 Step 13 INSTRUCTION: Use the ifixit tool as a crowbar to pry the bottom plastic piece off the phone. Step 14 Objective: remove four white screws from the corners of the screen. These four (4) screws help hold the phone together. Use a Phillips Hex 2mm screwdriver ifixit CC BY-NC-SA Page 9 of 24

10 Step 15 INSTRUCTION: remove the 2 white screws from the upper corners of the screen. Step 16 INSTRUCTION: remove the 2 white screws from the lower corners of the screen. ifixit CC BY-NC-SA Page 10 of 24

11 Step 17 Objective: remove the rear case from the phone in order to provide access to inside the phone. The phone is now held together by the casing alone. You need to pop the two halves apart. Step 18 INSTRUCTION: Use the ifixit tool like a crowbar to pry apart the front and rear halves of the casing. They will pop apart. ifixit CC BY-NC-SA Page 11 of 24

12 Step 19 Now you are ready to access the internal circuits of the phone. Step 20 Motherboard The objective of the guide is to remove the motherboard from the camera. The mother board is an L-shaped green circuit board. ifixit CC BY-NC-SA Page 12 of 24

13 Step 21 In order to start, the rear case should have been removed. Follow the rear case removal guide for that procedure. Step 22 Let's start. The objective of the following two steps is to remove the circuit connectors connected to the mother board. They are "clip-on" type connectors which have a black leathery coating. The connectors are located at the lower bottom left part of the "L-Shaped" motherboard. There are two connectors with the larger one overlapping the smaller one. 14 Step 23 INSTRUCTION: Disconnect the larger connector on the top by pulling on the edge of the black coated connector. It will pop off. Step 24 INSTRUCTION: The smaller connector will become visible once the larger one is disconnected. Disconnect it also the same way as before. ifixit CC BY-NC-SA Page 14 of 24

15 Step 25 Objective: disconnect the white wire connected to the motherboard. The wire is visible at the upper left of the "L-shaped" Motherboard. Each end of the white wire is connected by a circular pop-on connector. Step 26 INSTRUCTION: Grab and pull up on the silver connector that is at the end of the white wire connected to the motherboard until it pops off. ifixit CC BY-NC-SA Page 15 of 24

16 Step 27 Objective: separate the motherboard from the rest of the phone. The motherboard is held in place by two silver clasps on the left side of the phone. Step 28 INSTRUCTION: Use the ifixit tool to pry the clasps open. This will free the motherboard from the case. ifixit CC BY-NC-SA Page 16 of 24

17 Step 29 Objective: detach the camera component from the phone. The camera component is located at the upper left part of the phone, right above the white wire mentioned previously. The camera is square. Step 30 INSTRUCTION: Grab the camera component and pull it out of its casing. Keep the camera connected to the mother board. ifixit CC BY-NC-SA Page 17 of 24

18 Step 31 Objective: disconnect a circuit connector from underneath the motherboard to finish the process. The circuit connector is a gold and black colored "clip-on" type connector located in the middle left side of the phone. It is connected to the underside of the motherboard. 19 Step 33 INSTRUCTION: Use your fingertips to grab a edge of the connector and pop it off. Step 34 Conclusion: Now, you have successfully removed the motherboard. 21 Step 37 Objective: separate the existing camera component from the motherboard. The camera component is connected to the rear side of the top left of the motherboard. The connector is a black colored tab which is a pop on type mechanism. Step 38 The mother board is an L-shaped green circuit board.
