4 Executive Summary Veritas Information Map is a hosted service that delivers visibility into an organization s data, orienting it in context to make decisions that reduce the risks and costs of storing information over time. The information map serves as the access point to, and control panel for, the information aggregated into the information fabric technology platform. This guide serves as a quick start for those needing a reference for the basic installation, configuration, and administration of Veritas Information Map using NetBackup collection. Information Map Overview Key capabilities of the Information Map Visibility into unstructured data: The Information Map provides an immersive visual experience for end-users to gain insight into your organizations unstructured information environment. Once users have filtered, navigated or searched their way to a dataset of interest, the Information Map allows you to export the list of items in the dataset to a CSV file. Using the list of files and the Information Map visuals themselves, customers can pursue a number of use cases with new decision criteria available to them. o o o Intelligent storage use cases like decommissioning unused shares and addressing stale and orphaned data. Retention management use cases like identifying Outlook Personal Storage Folders (PSTs) for migration. Legal and compliance use cases like focusing ediscovery collections on custodian datasets, or prioritizing high activity shares for extra protection. How is it delivered? As a hosted service - Information Map is hosted on the Veritas cloud, offering a high level of security and availability and the big data capabilities of its underlying information fabric technology platform. The information fabric technology platform aggregates and stores the metadata characteristics of an organization s global unstructured information environment. The insights represented in the Information Map are provided by the information fabric technology. 4

5 Information Map Pre-Requisites Ensure that the following pre-requisites are in place where necessary. Failure to meet a pre-requisite will likely present issues further on in the guide. Requirements Veritas NetBackup for Windows file servers, Linux/Unix file servers or Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices. NetBackup version 7.6 or later. NetBackup Appliances version 2.6 or later. Note: In case of NetBackup 8.1, ensure that the Enable insecure communication with NetBackup 8.0 and earlier hosts check box on the Global Security Settings page is selected. This setting allows the Agent to connect with the NetBackup master server. The on-premise Agent requires a Windows 2012, Windows 2012R2, Windows 2016, physical or virtual server for the onpremise collection processes. The operating system must be 64-bit. The on-premises Information Map Agent communicates outbound on HTTPS port 443. The ports are for internal communication from browser to agent, and thus they must be secured from external access. Installation and Configuration Initial Log in to Veritas Information Map 1) Navigate to The customer identifier is provided by the Veritas Information map team. 2) Log in using the credentials provided by the provisioning team. 3) On the Veritas Information Map login page, click Sign in Using Veritas Application Portal. 4) You will be redirected to the Veritas Application Portal for authentication. Enter the credentials and select Sign In. The Information Map dashboard is displayed. 6

7 Creating an Information Map Location 1) Once logged into Information Map, navigate to Administration > Locations. 2) Click New in the bottom-right to create a new location. 3) Fill out the fields for geographically where your first Information Map Agent will report data from. 4) Save the entry. Downloading the Information Map Agent Installer 1) Use the left-side navigation menu to navigate to Administration > Software Downloads. A list of Information Map Agent versions are displayed. 2) Select the latest version of the Agent installer and click the Download Software link on the right-side content container. The Agent download is started. 3) Transfer the downloaded ZIP file to your Information Map Agent server, if necessary. 4) Unzip the installer files Installing the Information Map Agent 1) Run the Veritas_InfoMapAgent_Windows_3.x.x_x64.exe file to launch the installer. 2) Click Next on the Welcome to the Setup Wizard window. 3) Read and Accept the License Agreement. Click Next. 4) On the Agent Update Management page, select the update method. It is recommended to keep the Automatically install updates of the Agent option to keep up with the latest features and defect fixes. If you choose to Manually install updates, you will need to repeat downloading the Information Map Installer for each Agent release you wish to install. 5) In the Select Destination Directory panel, browse to the directory in which you want the Agent to be installed. The default path is C:\Program Files\Veritas\InformationMapAgent. Click Next. 6) In the Configure Data Directory panel, browse to the location where you wish to store the product data before it is sent to the Information Fabric platform. The default destination is C:\Veritas\InformationMapAgent\data. If using multiple nodes, it is recommended to store the data on a shared, highly available disk. Click Next. 7) In the Configure Networking window, enter the ports you wish to use for web, communication, and configuration ports. The fields are pre-populated with the default ports. 7

8 8) On the Proxy Settings page, you may configure the proxy server that you wish to use to connect to the internet. If using a proxy, select Connect to the internet through a proxy and enter the proxy server details. Use Test Connection to test connectivity. Click Next. The install is started. 9) Once the install is finished, Uncheck Launch Registration Wizard. Finish the wizard. Generating a KeyStore file Information Map secures all data flowing between the Information Map Agent and the Information Fabric technology platform using the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol. Information Map uses the username/password credentials to query share and export mappings from your servers. These credentials are secured using an encryption key pair held in a Keystore file. The credentials are encrypted using the public key and decrypted using the private key (which is only present on your premises). You must generate the encryption key file which is unique to your organization's deployment to enable secure communication between the Agent and Information Fabric. To Generate a KeyStore File 1) Open a command prompt window on the Agent server and change directory to the <Agent installation>\bin directory. 2) Execute the following command: <Agent installation directory\bin> connector_config.exe generate_key_pair 3) You are prompted to enter the path name and the file name where you want to save the KeyStore file. For Example, enter: E:\mykeyfolder\InfoMapCredentialKey.jks Note that the target directory must already exist. 4) Enter the KeyStore password. A key pair file is created successfully. Important: Do not lose the password and KeyStore file. If lost, this will delay the reregistration of the agent server if ever necessary. 5) Register the Information Map Agent Registering the Information Map Agent with Information Fabric The registration step authenticates the Information Map Agent with the Information Fabric technology platform, which enables the exchange of information between the Agent and the platform. To register the Information Map Agent 1) Browse to on the Agent server to launch the registration wizard. 2) Click Register this Agent. 3) On the Keys page, select Choose File and browse to the location of the file containing the key pair generated in the previous section and select the JKS file. Enter the Password. 4) Click Import Key and Continue. 5) Your web browser is opened. Select Continue to Sign On. Enter your login credentials and Sign In. The Register page is loaded. 8

9 6) Select the New service group radio button to create your first service group. Enter an identifiable name for the service group and select the location created in the Creating an Information Map Location section. 7) Select Register this Information Map Agent. 8) If the agent is successful, a green checkmark is displayed. Click Edit the Upload Schedule for this Agent. 9) Sign In to Information Map. The Administration > Agents page is automatically loaded. You may adjust the agent upload schedule. Configuring Access to a NetBackup Master Server The Information Map Agent pulls metadata from the NetBackup master server. To enable the Agent to access the master server, you must add the IP address of the Agent to the master server. The network name for the Agent server must be resolvable in DNS for reverse name lookup (for example, infomap.company.com resolving to ). Note that you must complete the procedure only once for every NetBackup master server that you want the Agent to connect with. To configure communication between the Information Map Agent and the NetBackup master server: 1) On the NetBackup Administration Console, click NetBackup Management > Host Properties > Master Servers. 2) Double click the Master Server. 3) On the Master Servers Properties window, click Servers. 4) On the Servers tab, click Additional Servers. 5) Click Add and enter the FQDN of the Information Map Agent server. This step adds the Information Map Agent server to the list of servers that can access the NetBackup master server. Note: If necessary, you can instead add an entry for the Agent to bp.conf on a UNIX master server or modify the registry entry in the case of a Windows master server. Configuring a NetBackup Task A NetBackup task is used to scan the contents of NetBackup backed up files. Once the task is configured, the data is then displayed in the map. Note: Data can take up to 24 hours to display on the map. 1) Verify that the Information Map Agent server has been added to the master list 2) Load the Information Map dashboard and navigate to Administration > Tasks. 3) Click the New button to create a new task. 4) Enter the configuration details for the NetBackup master server. Please use the fully qualified domain name in the NetBackup Master Server field. Use the Agent created in the previous steps. Credentials are required if using NFS Export/CIFS Share discovery. Use the Administration > Task Credentials to create domain credentials. See the Information Map Installation and Administration Guide for more info. 9

10 5) Define the schedule for NetBackup collection and Save the task. Important: Please allow up to 24 hours before continuing. Enable Content Sources 1) Navigate to Administration > Content Sources. 2) Select the content sources that were discovered by the task. Use the Ctrl or Shift keys to select more than one content source, if necessary. 3) Click Edit to begin editing the content source. 4) Use the dropdowns to set the Location, Storage Tier, and Enable the collection. 5) Save the changes. The Collection Status is now set to Enabled. 6) Allow some time for the Information Map Agent to collect the backup data from NetBackup. Results will start populating in the Map over time. Administration After the initial installation and configuration of Information Map, Information Map can be used for its primary purpose of reducing risk and cost. Use the Administration section to get quick insights on the capabilities of Information Map and how it can assist your organization. Global Settings 1) Navigate to Administration > Global Settings. 2) Use the Stale Data menu to set what your organization considers stale data. You may adjust the Created Date, Modified Date, and Accessed Date. 3) Use the Non-Business Data to set what your organization considers to be non-business files. These file groupings are based on the Item Types & Extensions menu. Customize the extension grouping as you feel necessary. 4) Use the Storage Tiers & Cost menu to set the estimated cost of per TB/year. Information Map allows up to 10 tiers of storage cost. These values can be assigned to Content Sources and/or Content Containers in order to more accurately estimate the cost of data. 5) Use the Item Types & Extensions menu to associate file extensions with types of items. Application Users Users may be added to Information Map to govern/administer the data if needed. 1) Navigate to Administration > Application Users. 2) Click New to create a new user. 3) Enter the user s Display Name, Address, and select which Roles will apply. 4) Save the changes. The user will receive an with a temporary password to login to Information map. 10

11 Map The Map of Information Map is the heart of the application and designed to display total data, data by location, orphaned data, stale data, and non-business data. The map can be filtered using the facets at the bottom of the page. Taking Action on Bad Data Whether it be non-business, stale, or orphaned data, data that is unnecessarily costing money should be removed from the environment if possible. Use the steps below to take action on unnecessary data by exporting the file paths for each of the files. 1) Use the Map filters to filter the data. You may also use the Orphaned, Stale, and Non-Business tiles as a shortcut for the facets. 2) Once the filters are configured, you may use the map to take a rough, geographical look as to which locations are unnecessarily using storage. 3) Export a list of the files by clicking the New Action dropdown in the upper-right corner and selecting Export. 4) Select the Export type, give the export a Name, and select the File compatibility levels. 5) Export the file. 6) The file is added to the Actions menu. Navigate to the Actions menu and wait for the export to complete. 7) Click Download export file once completed. 8) The data is saved as a ZIP containing the data-details CSV and a Manifest file containing the meta-data used to get the CSV data output. 11
