The operating unit for the new Thallo printing press was fitted with 84 and 04, with service and maintenance work helping in the development of the new web offset printing press. DG press, the successor enterprise of Drent Goebel, initially concentrated on the maintenance and servicing of its web offset printing presses. But there was demand among the customers for new printing presses, and so DG press began to use its expertise to develop the new, state-of-the-art web offset printing press Thallo. After two years of development, the first two machines were sold in The Thallo is a highly complex, sophisticated and refined machine. Anton Schreuders, Sales Engineer at EAO, spoke to software engineer Wim Schieven, who is responsible for the development and optimization of the Thallo printing machine at DG press. Mr. Schieven, how did the partnership with EAO come about? Drent Goebel had long been using EAO components for its machinery and was always very satisfied with their performance and reliability. This is why DG press not only relied on EAO as a dependable supplier, but also involved them in the process of developing the right specifications for the pushbuttons on the Thallo s new control panel. Which EAO products are used? The main operator panel is fitted with two monitors and a touch screen. A menu allows several concurrent processes to be configured. Each process is controlled by a dedicated PC, and all of the PCs are connected to the two monitors. However, since it is not possible to display all of the processes simultaneously. EAO products are used as a solution. To enable a certain process to be configured, DG press opted for a 84 pushbutton with LED illumination. The function of the button on the Thallo is comparable with that of a HOME button, returning the user quickly and easily to the start page. In addition to the main operator panel, there are localized control units for which the 04 was selected. It is critical that the user can comfortably and reliably operate these buttons while remaining focused on the machine. What impressed you about EAO? DG press strives for efficiency and cost control, which is why the company only cooperates with a small number of preferred suppliers. The purchased products must of course be reliable and meet all of the application s requirements. Moreover, DG press suppliers should be flexible and actively contribute to finding solutions together. Modular and easily replaceable components are essential for efficient maintenance and servicing of the equipment. At the same time, the products also need to be customizable in order to meet customer needs and offer all of the required features.
