2 1. LiveAction AIO and Installer Comparison In order to help users, make a decision on which LiveAction deployment to utilize, this document will compare the two types of deployment in order to assist in the decision making of which type of deployment to use. Here s what s going to be covered: Overview of the installer and deployment o This will cover high level steps on how to mirror the deployment Summary of installation o Step-by-Step is covered through the user guide Requirements needed Pros and Cons between the deployment types LiveAction Installer Deployment LiveAction s LiveNX installer is a software based installer that can be easily downloaded and installed on top of either Linux (CentOS 6.4 through 6.8) or Windows (7 Ultimate through 10). The application runs on top of java, and will require java version 1.8 (based on the latest version of LiveNX). There are also several requirements for the installer which will be quickly discussed below. What is required for a full installation Operating System: Windows or Linux Platform OVA deployment o Requires ESXi o Required for WebUI + LiveUX integration Node Deployment o Can utilize OVA (5.3+) o Can utilize installer for Node Client Installation o On-the-Fly web start java client is optional Hardware Requirements in order to have the installer run CPU and Memory Avg. Flow Rate (K Flows/Sec) Low Mid* High* Number of network devices 100 or less 500 or less 1000 or less Peak flow rate < 100K/sec < 200K/sec > 200K/sec Minimum Virtual cores Minimum Memory 8Gb 16Gb 32Gb Disk Allocation: 2 LiveNX vs Installer
3 Flows/Sec Disk Size/Day(GB) Disk Size/Week(GB) Disk Size/Month(GB) Client Requirements OS requirements: Mac OSX / Win 7/8/Server 2012 R2 Windows Client Requirements Small Install Medium Install Large Install Number of network devices Up to OS Type Win / Mac OSX Win / Mac OSX Win / Mac OSX Processor Type Intel i3 type Intel i5 type Intel i7 type Minimum Memory 4GB 8GB 16GB LiveAction AIO Deployment LiveAction s LiveNX AIO deployment is made to simplify the user experience in deploying LiveNX on the network. LiveNX AIO deployment combines the needs of the entire deployment into 1 simple and easy OVA to deploy. This simplifies the startup and makes user experience overall easy and functionally favorable to get up and running. What is required for a full installation OVA Image for AIO o Includes: LiveNX, WebUI, LiveUX Integration Node Deployment o Can utilize Node Installer o Can utilize Node OVA (5.3+) Client Installation o On-the-Fly web start java client is optional Hardware Requirements The list of server types show what is required for the ova images to run. Each type of image download is already pre-configured in the OVA so there s no guess work involved. Each server type, will also allow for storage expandability by just adding an additional disk. The built-in volume manager will take care of the disk sizing for all your storage needs. Tiny-Server o Used for less than 25 devices, or less than 25k flows/sec o Deployment is targeted towards non-server installation (Laptops, Desktops, etc.) o Packaged for both VMware Hypervisors and Oracle VirtualBox 3 LiveNX vs Installer
4 o Specifications: 2vCPU Xeon or i7 4GB RAM LiveNX Server Max Heap Size 2GB 250GB Data Disk Small-Server o Used for less than 100 Devices, or less than 100k flows/sec 8vCPU Xeon or i7 16GB RAM LiveNX Server Max Heap Size 8GB 4TB Data Disk Medium-Server o Used for Devices or less than 200k flows/sec 16vCPU Xeon or i7 32GB RAM LiveNX Server Max Heap Size 16GB 6TB Data Disk Large-Server o Used for Devices or greater than 200k flows/sec 32vCPU Xeon or i7 32GB RAM LiveNX Server Max Heap Size 16GB 8TB Data Disk Comparison Recap LiveAction Installer Needs a pre-installed OS o Needs enough free resources dedicated to run LiveNX o Needs to size disk properly before OS is built o Long install process compared to AIO deployment Needs additional OVA deployment to have webui accessibility LiveAction AIO Already pre-built and ready to go LiveNX, Web UI, LiveUX Ready: already included Node OVA (5.3+) is pre-built and ready to go as well o Software Install is optional for pre 5.3 deployments o Node Version has to match Server Version 4 LiveNX vs Installer
5 Is compatible with Node OVA (5.3+) on the same version o Node Version has to match Server Version Licensing is easy and familiar Upgrading is a long drawn out process: backup, uninstall, install new version, reload o Node Upgrade Follows the same process License has to be sftp or scp d over to a specific user space directory (difficult if unfamiliar with Linux) Upgrade is a simple 1 touch upgrade o No longer needs backup, uninstall, install new version, reload Node OVA (5.3+) will follow the same 1 touch upgrade install process 5 LiveNX vs Installer
