2 Introduction This document lists the hardware and software configurations on which you can install Aster Database version Teradata provides customer support for clusters installed on the platforms listed in this document. Not all platforms have been tested and certified by Teradata. Those that have been tested and certified are listed below as Teradata Certified. Those platforms listed as Teradata Supported have not been fully tested in our labs, but we do support them. Except where noted otherwise, the queen, worker, and loader should use the same hardware configuration. Support for Teradata Aster MapReduce Appliance 2 Teradata Aster MapReduce Appliance 2 upgrades from Aster Database 5.10 or to Aster Database 6.00 are supported. Support for Teradata Aster Big Analytics Appliance 3H Teradata Aster Big Analytics Appliance 3H upgrades from Aster Database 5.10 or to Aster Database 6.00 are supported. 3 Support for EC2 We no longer support installing on the Amazon EC2 cloud. Hardware Platform Specifications General Information (applies to all platforms): Hyperthreading: Teradata Aster recommends turning on Hyperthreading for better performance. Cluster sizing should still be done based solely on the number of physical cores. Each Xeon X5600 module has up to six physical cores. Quad core Xeon E5500 modules with four cores each are supported on older models. Disks: Use SAS disks only. SATA disks are not supported on any of the configurations. NICs: Ten Gigabit Ethernet recommended; 2x or 4x 1 Gigabit Ethernet supported on older platforms. Switches: Dell PowerConnect 8024, Arista DCS-7124S, or equivalent Dell C2100 Upgrades Only CPUs: Dual Intel Xeon 2.80 GHz Total RAM: 96 GB (12 x 8 GB), 1333 MHz Disks: 12 SAS disks, 15K RPM, 600 GB disk size RAID controller: LSI MegaRAID SAS i RAID settings: Queen: one RAID 10 group of 12 disks Workers and Loaders: one RAID 5 group of 12 disks LSI firmware update. Some workloads such as npath workloads may cause SCSI disks to go offline due to an LSI firmware issue. Apply the LSI patch, firmware version or later, available from LSI. 5 The supported appliances for this release are: Teradata Aster MapReduce Appliance 2 Teradata Aster Big Analytics Appliance 3H Supported Operating Systems for Software-Only Installations The supported operating system depends on whether you are performing a new installation or an upgrade: New installations of Aster Database 6.00 must be installed on 64-bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3 or 64-bit SLES 11 SP2 (Aster-provided distribution only). Check the Aster Database Installation Guide for a list of required kernel patches. To upgrade clusters running on other operating systems, see the detailed instructions in the Aster Database Installation Guide.
